Topic: Bit Boy!! first impressions

Yeah, the camera angles, once they become available really make you want to barf with all the spinning around. I went for angle 2; works fine.

It won't set the world on fire, but I think it's a nice bit of fun and it's cheap. My favourite eras are the 4,8,16 and 64 bit.

I haven't downloaded this since I wanted to hear some impressions first, but it's too bad Bplus hasn't pulled it out of the bag with Bit Boy!! (or so it appears, anyway). At least I'm not reviewing it though - I seemed to be the only one who liked Bplus' previous game Niki, and faced a harsh backlash from those who didn't!

The theme of having different generations represented as different graphical styles is a nice idea and one I would like to see more of - I just don't think I would have fun actually playing the game though. Too bad, I was quite curious about this at first.

I've played a shmup that had generation upgrades, don't remember what it's called though, I'll look that up... Ah, Genetos!

Anyway, I doubt the Niki screwup was the result of bad fan suggestions, I doubt any of them said "make a game where you have no air control, must make precision jumps and beat repeatedly spawning enemies along with running back and forth through the level to get six pearls!" All the screwups seem to be in the details.

I must say that this game is really good IMO. Like Sean Aaron said, it's not gonna set the world on fire, but it is great fun that can be played endlessly and I'd highly recommend it. The controls work fine, the level design is ace (even with the dead ends, which add to the fun and make use of those attacks) and even though it is short, you can play it over and over again to try and get the highest scores, whilst giving multiplayer versus a try in the time warp mode. I think that this game is ace, and all the little references and style differences make the game all the more fun. Well worth a download.

Of course you loved EVERY game made by B+, most people didn't and thus shouldn't heed your advice.

Usually I do enjoy his reviews, but more and more I'm getting the feeling the guy is kinda getting payed off by Bplus. I mean, fine, some people like Plättchen, some people like Niki and some people will probably like Bit Boy aswell. But this guy is raving about all of them equally like they're the second coming and considering the apparent consensus about those games (aswell as the fact that it was his review of Niki that kinda got me into buying that PoS title) that discrepancy has just alerted my "bullshit" alarm. And just the way he describes the game this time around, it's like he's describing something completely different cause I just can't see what he sees and in fact his entire review has a very distinct scent of sales pitch. I don't know, maybe I can't trust that guy anymore.

Edit: Had I read just a few more posts I would have noticed that I wasn't alone in this. Good to know I wasn't just imagining things.

Just a quick glance at the Bplus forum shows that DEMON212 and Wiiloveit are both uber fans. I bet Bplus could come out with a game where you play a giant dog turd and they would think it was the best thing ever. I will wait for the Nlife or Eurogamer review myself, they aren't gonna get swept away by Bplus' hype.

Oh really? Well isn't that interesting. Well, Bplus sure is no stranger to cheap and dishonest marketing, we all know that, so I wouldn't put it past them to deal in bribes. Yeah, that's the last straw for me. Bplus has had enough chances, time to finally label them as the shovelware developer that they are. I'm fairly certain we won't be seeing a game with an Icarian level of quality anytime ehhh... ever. And I'm thinking that I'll better take what Wiiloveit and Demon212 says with an entire wheelbarrow of salt from now on.

They did succeed in making people talk about their game while other shovelware is forgotten instantly and even good games tend to be forgotten faster.

Well they certainly never "bribed" me into praising PLATTCHEN from the very beginning. So not only is your argument silly, it's also flawed. And if you're doubting me then look at some others also who appreciated some of BPlus' other efforts.

Right, guys, I was completely taken by surprise when I saw my name in the Bplus credits. There were NO bribes, and I think you're all just looking too hard for an excuse to look at their games. I understand that I was in their credits for giving them support that the guys have needed, and helping to realise how good Plattchen was in my review of it, which I spent a good few weeks playing rather than rushing it over a weekend (AHEM). I honestly wouldn't just give them a nice review in exchange for featuring in their credits, that's just preposterous. I'm just trying to inform people as best as I can about their games, amongst many others on Nintendo systems, and am sorry for doing what I think is right and then getting recognition for it.

Bribed/payed off/potato/potaato/whatever. Besides, I didn't say there were bribes involved, just that I wouldn't put it past them. Nor do I see how my argument is either silly or flawed. I might be wrong, but I never claimed I was right either.

And also, does this mean that KnucklesSonic8 is Demon212 then? Or did you just feel targeted in general anyway...

@Djungelurban: I can assure you that KS8 isn't Demon212. For starters, he's Canadian. And aren't these conspiracies going a bit too far now?

Well, not since Bplus already did the whole "hey, I'm just a regular board user not affiliated to anything and have you seen this upcoming game from Bplus, it's the best thing ever" routine once before you know. After that they don't deserve to get any benefit of a doubt.

And yeah, pretty much did know he wasn't Demon212. With that accent there's no way Demon ain't British and KS sig is distinctly non European (considering the games listed). I just found it peculiar that it seemed like he took personal since he hadn't even been mentioned as far as I know.

I kinda wished there were more 32-bit levels though, but in 2D however.

It needs online features to make it worthwhile.

You can change the camera view to make it more 2D-like with the minus button.

@Djungelurban: I don't suppose there's anything I could say to make you realise I'm saying what I think because I actually believe it's a good game? Bplus haven't hypnotised me to say anything, or bribe me, or whatever. I've been posting here since June (ish) last year, and have always been honest in my thoughts, and there's nothing really that I can say to prove it other than that.

So in other words, you're not a plant, you just have really low standards.
