Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is now available to download on the Wii U's Virtual Console.
The release of Yoshi's Island marks the final release of Nintendo's announced Game Boy Advance Virtual Console titles for Wii U. It follows the release of Advance Wars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, and Golden Sun. You can check out a Wii U trailer for Yoshi's Island below. You can also check out our Super Replay of the Super Nintendo version of the game by heading here.
Yea....but like, wasn't Yoshi's Island first available on Super Nintendo? Why have they ported the Gameboy Advance version? If for some reason it's better from the GBA, then why haven't they ported others that were on the SNES like Super Mario World?

SNES!Yoshi's Island used the Super FX chip, which alongside mode seven is ridiculously hard to emulate , or so I heard.
Plus the GBA version has extra content.
Super FX patents are all expired. So even if Nintendo didn't own the Super FX tech and Argonaut Games did, it's a moot point at this point since it's public property.
They likely just don't think it's worth bothering with due to what was released that Super FX emulation would make available. It saw six 3rd party releases, 4 of which are near universally considered junk and a 5th (Doom) that has superior versions available on many different platforms. Since gamer's aren't about to line up to grab the underrated Winter Gold, that leaves three first party releases and a 4th that was near completion and never released for worthwhile content.
With Yoshi's Island released in this manner, I really doubt that Star Fox, Star Fox 2, and Stunt Race FX provide enough justification. More than a few folks these days consider these games as little more than aged tech demos, sadly (I don't care for Star Fox 2, but I love the other two and play all three routes to completion on Star Fox about once a year for the past 20 years and still love it).
SFX1: Star Fox, Stunt Race FX, Vortex, Dirt Trax FX, Dirt Racer (? I know there were five released and the fifth was a PAL-only racing game)
SFX2: Yoshi's Island, Doom, Winter Gold (PAL)
Unreleased: Star Fox 2, Power Slide (see above), Commanche, FX Fighter (released on PC, but I hear it was extremely terrible anyways)
I am annoyed that this topic has been bumped, can a mod please change the topic title to say the GBA version?
it makes some people think its the snes version lol

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
Thinking about picking this up, yet isn't the viewing size smaller than the SNES version? In other words, you see less of the screen due to the GBA aspect ratio.
I bought this masterpiece on the GBA when I worked as a holiday rep in France back in 2004.At the time I thought it was the finest platformer I'd ever played, then a year or so ago I played the SNES ROM on my Wii and enjoyed it even more than I did back then.Incredible game and in my opinion Miyamoto's Magnus Opus.I've considered buying it again on my Wii U but after playing the SNES version it wouldn't be the same.I can't understand why Nintendo hasn't found a way to put this on VC,it certainly has nothing to do with it being hard to emulate. It's like The Beatles re-releasing their back catalogue without The White Album.
Sorry for the bump, it seems like all the mods here lock threads about a topic that has already been created but also frown upon bumping old threads so it's confusing as to what to really do when you want to discuss an old topic... It's almost as if they want every topic to be posted in 1 encompassing thread.
