Just transfer your system. Everything will be carried over except Mario Kart Channel(think you can redownload though), Check mii out, weather, news, netflix, a few others I think, and the internet browser. I just transferred and all my saves were there to still use. I'm not even sure if you can get all those other channels back or not honestly(besides ones that came default with Wii), because I haven't tried redownloading them. You still have to redownload everything though. It took me about 45 minutes to get back all my downloads. I have 15 Wiiware and 21 VC games, and it didn't take that long. The transfer takes about 15 minutes, too...
Soooo, wait, can I just take save data like Zelda and whatnot to the Wii U instead and it'll work then? o.0
Yes. Even games like Monster Hunter Tri and Mario Kart Wii will transfer even though both are enabled to the internet.
...I'm talking about without dealing with the transfer program, lol. Brawl, and Tri are system locked and so you need the program to move it to the Wii U. (as well as the VC/WiiWare games)
And like I said, I don't want to move all my data to the Wii U.
Oh I see... I just move my console around alot. I gave my brother the Wii, and that's why I transfered the games. Any game save that isn't console locked can be used for the Wii games on Wii U, but if you plan on playing back and forth between consoles, it's gonna be a pain to copy your data to update it.
Ya, that's why you have to redownload it online. The channels stay on the card, but they no longer work with your Wii U. You have to download them after transferring your system data.
So many questions were asked before the release of the Wii U about how Wii games would look on the console and if you would see any graphic improvements, I thought Nintendo always said Wii games would "not" look any better at all?
Well, I tried some of my best Wii games on the Wii U this morning and I'm 99% sure they look sharper/clearer and not so blury as they used to on the Wii, the games I tried were Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Kart (Online), Punch-Out!!, Super Paper Mario & last but not least Super Mario Galaxy.
I used to have my Wii on the best possible setting and connected via component the best connection you could have on the Wii, but I'm convinced all of the above games look better when played on the Wii U, is it simply because of the HDMI connection on the Wii U or is there more going on in the background that we have not been told about?
You know, it's the saddest thing. I haven't really bothered with the Wii Mode on my Wii U. I mean, I need to transfer my games and saves eventually...but...I dunno. After seeing the Wii U and all it can do. I suppose it's kinda sad to see the final slope of the Wii...
Eventually I will. Right now I'm enjoying the new stuff.

Your condition is critically grave...but don't expect mercy from such an alliance..
Suspicion of tradition's so new wave!
can i lose my wii game data if my transfer to wii u stops.
No. The only way it will stop is if it loses internet connection, but once it reconnects, it will start off where it stopped. Mine disconnected and I thought I was going to have to start over, but it will ask to retry, and it will continue with no loss.
...Because I want to keep my Wii...and rather keep it in my room...and leave the Wii U out in the living room. o.o
For the non-online games like Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, I can confirm you can just copy the saves from the Wii over to an SD card and then just access it from your Wii U.
Oh yeah and. What is this about upscaling? I just started the Wii mode and everything looks blurry and dull. Did I miss something? ;_;
There is no upscaling. The picture is just being transferred through an HDMI cable rather than the AV/Component cables.

You might have missed a setting somewhere if it looks blurry in Wii Mode. I did hear that its supposed to look crisper and more vibrant and everything because of the HDMI. (dunno really, that part kinda confused me..Heard other things like it does render/upscale hem to 720 or something, lol)

did you actually try to test if the wii u upscales before posting? HDMI alone couldn't account for the difference in picture compared to component if both were outputting at 480p and every user who's checked has confirmed that their TV displays 1080p as the signal resolution when playing in wii mode. that wouldn't happen unless the signal were being upscaled. read all about it here if you want: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/wii_mode_upscales_to...
It's not exactly rocket science to upscale 480p to 1080p, a $30 DVD player can do it. The only reason it should come as a surprise at all is because Reggie misspoke and said there would be no upscaling when he really meant there would be no uprendering/up-res-ing. I'm 100% sure it does upscale, there's absolutely no reason to believe it doesn't.
