It goes to the orange screen with the spinning match game, after that the screen just goes all white. The system isn't frozen, I can still exit back to the Wii U menu.
I am having issues with the eShop on my 3DS and setting up my Nintendo Network user ID on the Wii U so I am going to assume their networks are overloaded right now with people updating their Wii U's before Christmas or some other network congestion related reason.
miiverse is down too. Hopefull the issues will sort themselves out soon enough.
Oddly enough the internet channel is fine, so are online modes for games.

Ugh, I find myself in a predicament. Somehow I managed to get into the eshop and tried to activate a $10 prepaid card. After I introduced the code and later hit "add funds" I got an error code (which I foolishly didn't write down). Now everytime I introduce the activation code I get another error saying that the card has already been activated, but my funds are stil at $0.00.

I don't think trying again later will work, as the system thinks the card has already been activated. I will contact Nintendo tomorrow (their website says online support won't be working today) and hope that they don't ask for the first error code.
