I've about given up hope on the possibility of GameCube games on Wii U as Virtual Console content. Why? A few, such as the Pikmin games, have already been rereleased on the Wii, and now Wind Waker is coming out as an HD remake. In other words, only select titles have been chosen to be moved to the Wii/Wii U format, so a wholesale moving of titles from that system seems unlikely. I don't see how Nintendo will put GC on Wii U by this point, but I hope I'm wrong. Would really be nice to have SSB Melee, since it's the only GC game I have and the only thing left tied to my old Wii. Ever better if Fire Emblem Path of Radiance was made available seeing as it's impossible to find a decently priced copy...
I think they will, just not as diverse a library as say the SNES library, more along the lines of the N64 one where it was mainly first party games. The prices on most Gamecube games have risen significantly and it makes sense for Nintendo to make them available to purchase for those who never got a chance to pick them up.

I just think it's hard to figure out how they will get some of the titles on there when they have alternative versions like you said for Wii with Pikmin, and others have remakes, too.
I'm surprised all these GCN games are going for so much now. They were literally $1-10 just a few years ago if you could find them at GameStop.
VC is a savior for non collectors that just want to play the game. No should ever have to pay more than what Nintendo charges for VC, which is why I'm more confused about the complaints on here about charging for old games when people charge like 10x as much for a cartridge version that isn't in HD or clearer sound like VC.
I wouldn't give up on VC. It is already a better way to get the old games than searching online with ridiculous prices.
I'm sure GCN will show up, it just won't be anytime soon I would think.
I expect they will just not many. Maybe twenty like n64. It'd be great though since the highest resolution for gc games was 480p. The gamepad is 480p.
Hopefully, we get the boosted resolution of 64 games again as well. Can't wait for Majora's Mask on the gamepad.
Really all past systems could be emulated on Wii U including DS.
I'm sure Fire Emblem for GCN will show up, specifically. I just saw that what you were talking about how there are listings for the game as high as $180. There was one for $30, but those other people are just desperate.
I would never pay that much for that game. I was never personally into the Fire Emblem games, but I recall buying it for $10 used at GameStop like 4 years ago. It's kind of disappointing seeing people sell old games for unreasonable prices...
Just wait for it on Wii U VC. That's one of the games I could see them bringing to the VC, along with Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario: TTYD, Kirby Air Ride, Starfox Assault, Starfox Adventures, RE4, RE1 remake, RE0, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Mario Party 4, etc.
There's way too many good games on GCN to not eventually release them on VC. So, yes, recalling as many good games there were, I wouldn't count it out at all.
It'll happen. The same way that they slowly rolled out more supported platforms on the the Wii VC.

I think the issue is controls actually. Will they all be GamePad/Pro Controller only? Or will they incorporate Wii Motion controls option for games like Pikmin 1 & 2, and even games that could make good use of it like Super Mario Sunshine. And what about games that connected to gameboy advance for bonus stuff, will that all just be on the touch screen?
i never had any n64 games on the vc. how do the controls work for say something like OOT? obviously there isnt any c buttons. or enough buttons to accomodate them.

You had to use a Classic Controller or GC controller.

They wouldn't be "Virtual Console" if they had to make radical changes like this. They will most likely use the original scheme but altered to take advantage of the game pad or pro controller

I think the Wii U is probably going to use remakes from Gamecube to fill in gaps in it's own lineup. We'll probably see Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion at some point. Honestly I can't think of any other games I would want personally that haven't already been announced or would be served better with a new installment. For example, I'd love to see F-Zero GX, but I'd rather just see a new F-Zero game... Fire Emblem seems unlikely unfortunately.
I really have no idea, but I have great doubt that we'll see a GameCube Virtual Console on the Wii U. I could be toatlly wrong though. The architecture of the Wii U is based on the Wii's, which was basically an over-clocked GameCube.

PS3 has PS2 games which is a good example. I think it would be a little out of the question to allow Wii games that weren't New Play Control on a VC as of now, but I have pretty much no doubt Nintendo will release GCN in due time.
Nintendo games are basically free for Nintendo to upload, so they have to focus on strategics in terms of reasonable intervals of releases to not flood the eShop with their own titles.
As for 3rd party games, Nintendo has to offer an incentive for those 3rd parties if Nintendo wants the games on there themselves, or rely on 3rd parties just knowing their game will sell.

The N64 pad has 6 face buttons and 3 triggers. (L, R & Z) however, you can't access more than 2 of the shoulder buttons because of the way you have to hold the pad. This means that only 8 buttons can be used at any one time. So the GamePad/Pro should have all buttons covered, in practice.
