who cares if u complain but wiiu then y did u buy it? driving is more difficult than most video games, this 'gamepad is broken' is your way of thinking.
yet people are still content on playing on their 4th dual shock. where's the next gen magic in that?
maybe on having a powerful PC without a mouse, keyboard or the ability to change the OS? I don't know... PS4 looks cool but when you look at how innovative it is, it isn't innovative, just powerful, really powerful........

lol - this, exactly. When will people figure this out?
I usually avoid 3rd party peripherals like the plague, but my PS2 controller of choice was the Logitech Action Controller. Excellent responsiveness and much more ergonomic. Weighted and wireless, too.

Best as I can remember, this was the only 3rd party peripheral I actually preferred over an official model.
wow, it looks great!

I think Nintendo have misread the '2 screen' thing, even though I'm sure they will have been tinkering with it long before it gained popularity through tablets etc.
When people use 2 screens, they are doing it in a complimentary or related way. They are not doing 1 activity split into 2 screens. You can remove one at any time and still have a full-formed experience going on.
The Wii U is different. It is sending you to 2 disparate locations to do 1 thing - play a game.
This is a fundamentally bad experience and a huge barrier to the platforms success.
Two questions:
1.Have you ever heard of the DS? You know, best selling platform of all time? Yeah, guess what? Two screens to play one thing. Go figure.
2.Ever heard of the pro controller? There's no screen on it. You don't have to use a screen if you don't want to.
It's more challenging to make a compelling dual screen experience with the Game Pad, than with the handheld.
However, games already proved they can do it brilliantly: Nintendo Land, Zombi U, Arkham City: Armored Edition, Lego City Undercover, and I'm guessing Wario and Pikmin.

Don't forget the awesome Splinter Cell Blacklist... Using the peek/sticky cams and rotor gadgets gives me a cool James Bond kind of feeling inside
Well, you were bound to get an angry response with that title, but I don't entirely disagree with you. People who just say "well look at the DS/3DS, they turned out OK!" don't really understand that it's a different experience; the DS screens are right next to each other, they are essentially one big, long screen. The Wii U screens on the other hand are completely separate. When playing the Wii U with friends the thing I've heard most commonly is "what screen am I supposed to be looking at?", which would indicate that it's not exactly natural or intuitive for people.
In general (so far) I haven't really seen much that's particularly amazing or helpful or innovative that the two-screen Gamepad idea has brought to the table. The only truly special thing I've experienced is the 3 multiplayer mini-games in NintendoLand (Mario Chase, etc), though I've experienced them before as they are essentially 3 variations of the Pac Man Vs concept. Everything else either seems to be contrived at worst, tenuous at best. As Yahtzee said "a solution looking for a problem".
Of course there's the map/inventory/de-cluttering the screen stuff that Nintendo fans seem to have convinced themselves is something that they've ever cared about. Which begs the question, since when did Nintendo fans become the most boring people on the planet?
According to NintendoLife's review of Pikmin 3, the game makes excellent use of the two screens, but as much as I love the game, I didn't really see this... Basically you pause the game to look down at a map on your controller instead of pausing the game to look at a map on the main screen (you may not be pressing pause, but you're still pausing, so what's the point). Even the "Go Here" function could easily be done without a touchscreen. If this is considered great use of the Wii U Gamepad then it's little wonder the concept is struggling. This is exactly the sort of thing that is making the general public shrug their shoulders in utter indifference and say "Is that it?! Is that really worth the cost of the console given its tech? Is that really worth having to recharge the controller every 5 bloody seconds?" Though I shouldn't really complain as I guess would rather that kind of subdued use of the Gamepad than the over the top, wacky, gimmicky stuff. Who knows, maybe something will come along that will show that the concept is utterly essential, but I think those waiting for that are going to be disappointed.
Definitely not a broken concept. It adds a whole new element to gameplay. ZombiU was an amazing experience for me, MOSTLY due to the gamepad. Being able to play multiplayer multi-screen play as well as off-TV play for games is also quite a unique experience.
There aren't really any games that require you to do multiple tasks on both the TV and GamePad screens. It's usually just for quick weapon selection or map viewing, or even just for off TV play, which alone is still a great and useful use of the GamePad.
There's one I know of: Gamer, in Game & Wario. And it's an AWESOME challenge. It's also very handy for local multiplayer, so it was an amazingly smart move to include a pro controller in the Premium pack! Nintendoland, Rayman Legends, ZombiU,.. All the more shame SC Blacklist has no local...
edit: ZombiU has you focusing on both screens too, unless you make sure everything's safe first. Again: awesome.
Sonis All-Stars Racing Transformed also does the rear view mirror thing, apparently, but I only played it co-op so far. It's great on paper at least, gotta try it.

'Innovation' can also be found within the many elements that define software, not only in new input methods. It's all about preference: for instance some people never cared for motion controls just like others can't see what's special about visual advancements. It doesn't change a thing and comparing them is meaningless; just because a certain type of innovation doesn't resonate with you it doesn't make it less legitimate. More power equates to more resources for developers to innovate.
to be fair i dont think the gamepad has been used very well so far and i can see where people who dislike it are coming from. the best experience ive had are the murphy levels in legends, i havent played zombi U yet will be picking it up soon tho since its only a tenner.
it is quite worrying tho to see nintendo first party games coming out not really doing anything with it. i dont understand why they didnt make pikmin playable with the touchscreen in gamepad only mode.
You do realise that you can play Pikmin like a real-time strategy using the Gamepad. You can manage different groups with many tasks on that mofo... Gamepad 4 Lyfe Baby
