Topic: Splatoon Gamepad Aiming

Finally got the chance to play splatoon today at EGX! However, was disappointed that it uses the gamepad at least partly for aiming (specifically, to look up/down). My concern is that it means you can't necessarily hold the gamepad at whatever angle is natural / comfortable, which in extended periods of play, may get tiring or frustrating.

The gamepad jumping to friends function is really useful. So it definitely serves a purpose there, removing the hassle of respawning miles from the action. I'm going to give it another go tomorrow hopefully, as may simply be a case of getting used to it.

Anyone else tried Splatoon and got thoughts on the gamepad aiming?

I played it at E3 and I remember people saying there was a way to disable it, I don't remember how to disable it but I remember people saying they could

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Wasn't it optional in the demo? Think it was like that at E3.

I think gamepad aiming can be fun but for only short bursts like when manning a turret or something but I agree it would probably be tiring for whole matches. I am really really hyped for this game

You can turn off the gamepad aiming, it's only used for more precise aiming the main aiming is done with the right analog

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

I'm glad the Gamepad is getting used - there were a few good sections in Game and Wario - but I also hope you can turn them off so couch co-op is both possible and fair. 4 player split screen w/ the whole family 2 vs 2 would be awesome.

The solution used in Splatoon is really good, and making it optional is for the best. Precise aiming can be perceived differently - some can make use of motion controls, others prefer the classic way. All I'm wondering about is how the game's gonna work with the Pro Controller? You need the gamepad for the map and quick-jumping to team members, after all.

Having gone back and tried it yesterday, turns out yes you can easily turn it off at least in the demo version they were showing, but not all the staff at the booth necessarily knew that.

Seems that it is simply a case of getting used to it in the short term. Will have to wait and see when it comes out how tiring it becomes when sat down for extended periods of play, and whether most people opt in or out
