In Splatoon 1, motion controls would aim on the Y-axis alone (up and down). You'd pan the reticule left and right with the analog stick. In Splatoon 2, if I'm not mistaken, motion controls aim both axes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The controls in Splatoon 1 were perfect and is one of the many reasons the game is so brilliant. Motion aiming in Splatoon 2 is comparatively unplayable. The reason I ask this is because I really really hope they offer the option to disable X-axis motion controls for Splatoon 3.

A bit hyperbolic when you look at what most people & reviews say about the Splatoon 2. Although, I totally understand when you've played a game for a year, or years, and it's hard to adjust to a new control scheme.
@WoomyNNYes the only way I can play now is split joycon. If thatโs ever not an option in future I might be making a thread like this ๐
Oh yeah? What is it about the split joycon setup that works best for you? I've played a fair amount of Switch, but I do not own one myself yet and have played Splatoon 2 only briefly.
@Gryffin Splatoon 2 was my first Splatoon game. I REALLY, really didn't like motion aiming on when I got Splatoon 2 because, the in-game camera jostles around so much when you walk around, and it's pretty disorienting. I think it took me 2 or 3 play sessions to adjust to keeping the controller more steady.
I hated the control scheme in Megaton Rainfall so much that I couldn't adjust. Every time I fought a boss, the controls seemed so illogical and restrictive, it drove me nuts. I had to delete the game from my Switch because, I couldn't stand to see the game's tile on my home screen.๐๐
@WoomyNNYes I would be very curious to try motion controls in Splatoon 1. Motion aiming on just the Y-axis is a completely different experience and far, far superior. You have so much control compared to any other aiming setup on a controller.
To me gyro is a disappointment and downgrade compared to pointer.
Same with DS to 3DS (Hunters compared to Federation Force/Blast Ball). From super smooth Quake 3 Arena like experience on a handheld, to sluggishness.
Had Nintendo invested in a big online first person shooter with Metroid Prime 3 like controls, perhaps things might have looked different today. Those were the big games back then; Halo, COD, Destiny. Buy they weren't ambitious back then, they were in cheap cash-in mode. There was hype when the Wii control scheme was revealed, what it could mean for RTS and FPS games on console. Nintendo had had a track record of innovation; expectations were high. Shame to see such an excellent and promising control scheme end up in the bin.
