Again, what's there to be happy about not having voice chat? Voice chat would be an option, that you can turn off and still be able to not talk to or hear anyone. You're basically saying your happy people don't have options. So some people no voice chat is a deal breaker to them, so you're happy about potential customers not buying the game?

Yes because if people truly want to chat call your mate on their cellphone and put in on speaker. Why should I have to mute up to 7 jolly gentlemen every time I want to play? I already said the best of both worlds would be to allow us to talk between matches like Mario Kart 8.

@rjejr that really doesn't make any sense.

That's my viewpoint on about half of what Nintendo has done over the past few years. You're around here enough, you don't need me to repeat the list.

What can I say, things happen. And I've already had more problems w/ my Wii U than any other console I've ever owned. I'm not really in the mood to go over that list either.

I'm pretty sure things will run smoothly, but I'm not trying to talk anybody into buying the game now who's waiting b/c I don't want to feel responsible if things go poorly.

You don't even own a Wii U, because if you did how could you honestly say you ran into the most issues with this console? Unless you are doing something wrong, then that is user error and not Nintendo's fault.

August 2013. And if it was user error then why did Ntinedo send me a new one when I sent my broken one in for repairs? There's more, but like I said, no point going into it, it's history.

Because Nintendo was being nice to an early adopter they don't strike me as being as puppy loving company as long as you didn't outright destroy the unit with a hammer. And just because you said you purchased it in August 2013 doesn't make it true. All your comments come across like a troll who doesn't own the system and you are just mud slinging.

I wonder if that means there'll be some Nintendo related stuff to wear like the Virtual Boy and Power Glove.

I'm going to say I think most of the criticisms are valid. Lack of party matchmaking and voice chat in an online team game like this are criminal, and 5 maps is perhaps the most barebones a full price release has ever felt to me. Now that's out of the way, I cannot over state how much I love this game. I love the art style so much. The characters, the Inkopolis hub world, it's all fantastic. I know there's not a lot of competition, but these are the best new characters Nintendo has come up with in... 20 years? I really wish they'd sorted out some kind of animated TV show to go with it because I want this to explode in popularity.

Love the Zappers and seriously those amiibo look great. I do hope that since they went through the trouble of making them they will do more splatoon themed bonuses later. Perhaps turn Samus' gun into a paintshooter in a new metroid game?

Definitely valid. Lack of party matchmaking and voice chat option are indefensible. Extra maps and modes are at least coming in free updates though, so I'm fine with that.

Isn't it cheaper in EU though? I thought it was only full price in NA, which IMO is really insulting.

Simple reason as to why there's no voice chat : age rating. Splatoon is a 7+ game (in Europe, E for Everyone in America) and that is where Nintendo is choosing its demographic. They created a multiplayer shooter that is as much fun for seven year-olds as it is for seventeen year-olds, because a lot of Nintendo's target demographic is below thirteen years old. The addition of voice chat, even if it can be turned off, automatically changes the rating from a 7+ to a 12+, which would not be in Nintendo's favour in terms of sales. I agree that it would be a nice option to have, and it is a perfectly legitimate complaint, but I can see why Nintendo opted out of it.

That logic is not valid given that Mario Kart 8 is still 3+.

Well many retailers are discounting it, but I'm not sure Nintendo is considering a budget release.

Huh. So there is. Only in private lobbies with friends though, but still. Maybe it'll be implemented with the party matchmaking mode, but I doubt it unfortunately.

There is voice chat, in private lobbies.

Is it actually a PEGI policy to automatically increase a rating to 12 if it has voice chat? Can you list any examples of this occurring?

I've been looking up an official statement from PEGI but I haven't found anything yet, I just can't think of any game with voice chat that isn't more than a 12+ (Smash Bros for example is 12+, but probably for completely unrelated reasons), until I was directed to MK8 which is 3+. Guess I was just pulling it out of my electric boogaloo, sorry about that.

There's no such policy, as far as I know. For any game with online components, there's usually a small tag saying "online interactions not rated by ESRB". The mental gymnastics some people do to try and alleviate Nintendo of all responsibility is baffling. Not you, Zekrom, you seem pretty cool!

Like I said I agree that it's a perfectly legitimate complaint, I was pretty shocked that it wasn't included so I was trying to find a logical reason why it wouldn't be, but it was debunked quickly. Just another case of Nintendo being stupid I guess.

Matches are with random people. How are you going to get their cellphone numbers? And why should people have to communicate with each other through other means, when it can just be in the game. Pressing the mute button, or having a separate "no voice chat" room isn't complicated.
