Couldn't agree more. They are certainly the Blizzard or Valve of the console world. Unfortunately, they don't have the PC money-drip thing going on in the form of Dota2 hats, WoW subscriptions, or the like that allow those other companies to go years in between releases.

And Nintendo is also a hardware company, so yea ... there are those bills, too lol.

But Nintendo's quality is absolutely legendary. I remember as a kid accidentally dropping Game Boys onto concrete, into water, inside my dog, etc. more times than I can remember. And every time it came out still truckin'. Same goes for the Gamecube (the thing had a handle for crying out loud! It was just begging for accidents to happen) and older consoles like the SNES/NES.

In contrast, my PS2 fell about a foot off a TV stand when I was in high school and the thing wouldn't read discs anymore.

This also had almost nothing to do with games. I apologize lol

welcome to gaming the oddest and most chaotic industry in the history of makind

I know, everything I see happening is telling me the market is going to crash soon but it just keeps going... I wonder when the next big crash will occur

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Not only do you have to hand it to them for quality software, but for quality hardware as well. Keep it up, Nintendo!

Glad to see someone else appreciates the Wii U as hardware as well! The Gamepad is pretty cool once you have one, but looking at it from the outside, it's hard to tell!

To be fair, I have a feeling all the console creators don't want their own games to look bad far more than 3rd party publishers. I mean, it's not really Sony or Microsoft's own games that I hear having QA issues. Could be wrong on that though.

But Nintendo is especially very interested in keeping their own games at a high quality. Like...90% of their output is relatively high quality stuff, and most of the other 10% made a profit at least (sometimes quite a bit). I may be harsh on most of their recent output with Mario, but that's more about the high expectations you should have for a Mario platformer and I suppose a game being made ASAP meaning it is uncreative and samey is better than being made ASAP by releasing a broken mess or just a mediocre at best game for your audience out of an assumption that they will buy anything.

I was watching a Youtube video a few minutes ago and they said that if Nintendo went 3rd party, they would shame all the other 3rd parties to release their games complete, cut down on DLC, remove the notion of on disc DLC entirely and generally put more effort in. The commentator believed that because so many kids who have lived on Xbox/PS all their lives and haven't played Nintendo, they don't know what is acceptable quality for a retail product.

Sort of a fair comment I thought.

Then he blamed Nintendo that the industry was in such dire straits BECAUSE Nintendo refused to do this. You have to laugh.

@kkslider5552000 I agree 1st party games never seem to be the issue. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft always seem to maintain a high quality with titles made or published by them. 3rd party is where things get sketchy.

Save it for the show man. I admit that I've pushed nintendo to the side a little but it has nothing to do with quality. I play their handhelds because that's basically what their home console should be, a great console with a lot of games and not just Nintendo games but games from other devs and other genres. Personally I wouldn't want to wast my money on their home console if it's mostly gonna sit there without being touched. Some people may not have time for videogames but I do and when I don't get enough videogames, it hard to keep me invested in a console. Nintendo has quality but they're the only ones putting out games for their console so months pass in between games and that's time I could be playing other games on other consoles. I still love my 3DS though, it's the console the Wii U should be.

I'll be honest, while 3DS has a lot of good games, I either haven't had as good luck as I'm used to nowadays or most of the games are good but not like amazing or anything. Which is fine but a but disappointing. Whereas Wii and DS after 2008 I basically got a legit must-own game for every 3rd game I bought (with the other 2 being the average of my current 3DS collection). Just game after game after game that was absolutely wonderful, it was really crazy and awesome, I'm worried I'll never have that type of luck again. Even Nintendo's awful year in 2011 started with me getting 3 amazing DS titles without even having to get Pokemon B/W, one of which was my favorite game of that entire year (Radiant Historia)

But, right now, what Nintendo is putting out on Wii U is must-own stuff, and there's a good amount of indie games I'm legitimately really excited for (obviously some for 3DS as well or both, but not as much as Wii U IIRC). Of course, games can surprise you and things could change, but right now I think Wii U will be getting a lot more games that are like some 9/10 excellent quality titles, imo. Right now at least, Wonderful 101 and Rayman Legends are both better than my 3DS games except for maybe the latest AA, and 3D World and DKC:TF I'm assuming are of similar high quality. And my 3 most anticipated titles are coming to Wii U. Though again, I feel like I am at my lonely table of 1, so I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt?

I enjoy my Wii U and 3DS but I gotta say... ever since I got my Wii U.. I hardly play my 3DS anymore. Its strange but its true.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Yes, Nintendo has very high quality games, both bug-wise and in terms of fun content. Where other consoles might see 5-10x the number of releases, only 1/20 of them are interesting, and even those are ridden with glitches, patches and bugs. Nintendo releases, on the other hand, almost exclusively great games (yes, they release the occasional party game or what have you, but hey). In fact, this year I think I'm buying EVERY release from them. And while even Nintendo games aren't perfect, very few of them are ridden with bugs.

I really must give props for the Wii U though. I used to think there was nothing that could make me put down my 3DS, but then the Wii U released. The games are just SOOOO good on Wii U it's unreal. I had a spurt of 3DS play in 2013 with Fire Emblem Awakening and DKC Returns 3D, but every other major 3DS game has turned into backlog because of the Wii U. I havent' even finished Luigi's Mansion, SMT4, M&L Dream Team, or Zelda Link Between Worlds yet, because I just can't find the time with all these great Wii U games, which have much better longevity as well.

You look at New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World, Zelda Windwaker HD and DKC Tropical Freeze. Those 6 games right there are just so good, so fun, and such high quality. Soon we'll be talking about Mario Kart 8, which aside from DKC Tropical Freeze could easily be GoTY for me. 3DS games are really, really good. REALLY good. But Wii U games take the cake, easily. I'm glad there's a gap before Mario Kart 8, otherwise I may NEVER finish Link Between Worlds!

I honestly can't remember the last broken game Nintendo made (in terms of bugs, etc.)

Nintendo's products have always been solid gold. The times I have strayed, were with a ps2 and ps3. I liked my ps2 for the DVD player and sports games. I bought a ps3 with batman Arkham asylum and was blown away. The problem I had with the system related to a system that overheats way too fast and a buggy ps store. The only reason I'm holding on to my ps3 is because I want to play through RE5 and RE6. But my N64, GameCube, Wii and Wii u have survived wars. The Wii u is as quiet as a mouse, and I love the fact I don't need discs to play games anymore. Such a marvelous device.

I still find it hard to believe that a big and beautiful HD game like Super Mario 3D World is less than 2GB in size.

It's cause Nintendo knew they were going to obviously make a Mario game so they included models for Mario, Goombas and such on the WiiU already before they sold them.

Skyward Sword was the last game, to my memory, to have a game breaking glitch. Xenoblade had a few bugs, but they were generally hilarious (enemies dropping through the floor). Super Mario Sunshine seems to be the worst game in terms of bugs. I've encountered so many weird things (fallen off of stage but kept falling instead of dying, fallen through floor and gotten stuck, other things I can't remember but bothered me).

Well, the bug in Pokemon X / Y is pretty bad. (If you don't have the internetz to patch it)

The best part was that it was so minor, coding wise, that it only took about two weeks to patch the game. That and the bug was very avoidable. I saved on the streets loads of times, but I guess I was in a safe area.

I remember there being an infamous game breaking glitch in Zelda: Twilight Princess as well (though luckily didn't happen to me). If you saved and quit at a certain point (just before the final City in the Sky dungeon I think) it would fail to set off a chain of events (the raising of the giant cannon?) that meant you couldn't continue the game.
