If I like the Wii Remote, I shouldn't buy the Trilogy? What?

Personally, I preferred the Wii remote controls to the Gamecube controls from Prime 1+2. I found it made the games more enjoyable.

Yes, I like bears.

I had no issue with the Wiimote for this game, however the camera perspective/movement gave me a headache. I really need to be 3rd person to a character. But then it's nine quid, not exactly breaking the bank for a couple hours play.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

It's not a "mind set". It's years of actually trying those controls in all sorts of games, and always being disappointed. Is it so hard to believe that something you enjoy isn't for everyone?

Not to start an argument, but I just never understood how people never figured out how to play with the Wii Remote. I lay on my couch, with my legs kicked up on my coffee table, or wrapped in a blanket, and I have no issues pointing and moving the remote. I used to do it on my bed, when my Wii was in my room back in the day, and now I do it on my couch.

The only problem I've ever had is being too far away, but that's an easy fix.

But seriously, I don't get it. I rest my hands on my lap. Sometimes I rest my right arm on the couch's arm rest, and I still can do it fine.

You might want to crank up the sensitivity. Put it on expert and the controls will be much, much more like a KB/Mouse. On the default setting it's a bit more like controlling a tank, on Easy mode it's a shooting gallery, on Expert it actually plays like an FPS.

I don't like moving my right hand as much as the wiimote requires. It's not comfortable enough for me. I'd much rather move my thumbs instead, which is what happens with traditional controllers. I also certainly don't like to be wirelessly tethered to a sensor bar.

And when games incorporate waggling instead of pushing a button, that's just infuriating. A developer should never strive for gimmicky rather than functional in my opinion. Mario's attack on Galaxy and DK's ground pound on Returns are prime examples of this sort of thing.

I guess I could take people's word for it when they say that console first-person shooters play better on the wiimote, as I'm not into the genre and, as a matter of fact, have never played such a game without keyboard + mouse. Still, I now HAVE experienced playing a FPS with the wiimote, and even if it's indeed better than traditional controllers, it's not nearly enjoyable enough for me.

I've accepted that this is not a popular opinion here, so there's that. Although I should point out I've seen plenty of people calling the Xbox 360 controller as the best option for console FPS's, and that's very similar to the Wii U pro controller.

Nothing unless it's a choice between Nintendo putting in effort to shoehorn in support that wasn't already there or not giving us the game at all.

I actually have the Wii version of this (Black Friday seemed like such a great deal back then... Only $40, right?). For me, the waggle controls are awful. Maybe I'll go change the sensitivity: the reticle goes flying any time I try to move, and it would be lovely to have Gamecube/Gamecube-like support, but nothing to do about that. It's too cheap to not buy now, really.

Why is "waggle" even being brought up for the topic of Metroid Prime Trilogy?

My guess is that they may think you need to waggle the control to change visors.

I know I do that most of the time.

Is "waggle" in Trilogy comparable to "button mashing" in a fighting game?

I'm almost sure waggle refers to the act of mindlessly (and violently) moving the wiimote around to do something. So yeah, I guess it would be similar to mashing buttons in a fighter.

I have only played part of Prime 1, so I don't know if these games do use it. But selecting the scan visor in a hurry feels like it.

Other than that... Not really. As far as I know the game doesn't seem to use motion controls at all.

I played Metroid Prime 3 a couple years ago. The only issue I can remember was that the grappling beam didn't respond well sometimes. IIRC you had to shake the nunchuk and I wanted so bad just to hit a button.

Ooh so it does have motion controls. That's good to know.

Maybe I have been able to do that jump this whole time and just never tried to

Ah, my bad. I say 'waggle controls' whenever it involves using the Wiimote not on its side (ala Donkey Kong Country Returns).

It doesn't "need" gamepad but I think it would be nice if the gyroscopic controls of the gamepad could be used as a option for the people who don't want a wiimote. The gamepad screen is a lot better than a full HD screen for wii games.

Sorry OP, but this is really a raw Wii game with an official mini-hack to skip Wii Menu. Not even a port. Let's just say that the Wii U world and original Wii world are basically separate and isolated. It's basically the same as dual-booting OS X and Windows on a Mac computer if that analogy helps. Mac software can't run on Windows and the same thing for Windows software reversed.

My experience with the original 1st game was only brief, but I played it in 2011 and found the analog controls to be unnatural. It'd be the best of both worlds if the games featured both Wii-pointer and REFINED analog control setups. Now wonder if that'd help sales enough to warrant that extra effort (more time and money needed to make it possible).
