I would like to see a sequel to Metroid Fusion on 3DS seeing that Fusion does a lot of things right. Sure it was completely linear but if the map is short and it had that non-linear style like Super Metroid, then this one would do great.

It would be stupid to see Nintendo giving up on Metroid so easily especially after only one game that didn't sell well besides the others. Also I want to ask, How well is Metroid doing in Japan? Does Japan have a decent Metroid fanbase because from what I read, Metroid sells lower in Japan compared to US and Europe.

If it wasn't for the west I don't think there would be a Metroid tbh. You check the sales for almost any of the games and it less then 10% from Japan.

I think they should make a sprite-based 2D Metroid with a gameplay mix between Super (considerably free exploration, isolated atmosphere, creepy locations) and Fusion (proper narrative, vague objective system, some interaction with environment) to move back to the roots a bit, and move forward from there.
Why not call it Metroid Diffusion just for the sake of sequelizing?

@Artwark Unfortunately, Metroid isn't particularly popular in japan. It's selling worst in asia, and best in NA.

I don't get it. If metroid isn't selling well in Japan, what makes them interested in the series? I mean isn't Japan their main place for their production? If it isn't doing well there, then why still make it exist? Don't get me wrong, I love Metroid but to see Nintendo in financial problems, Its makes me wonder how they make profit out of this.

I get your point definitely, but I'm not sure if that's the right game to use as an example...

So they decided to be Call of Duty and Uncharted, respectively.

I would actually be OK with Team Ninja doing another Metroid game, as long as the direction and presentation was taken in a different way. It does need to return to the roots of exploration and borderline horror and the "less is more" storytelling method. Given Nintendo's recent frequent collaboration with Koei Tecmo, I think Makoto Shibata and Keisuke Kikuchi would be an interesting director/designer team for the game under Nintendo SPD's careful supervision. Those two worked together on Fatal Frame, Trapt, and Quantum Theory (before the tidal wave of ew Trapt and Quantum Theory arrives, those were games with interesting ideas but bad execution and technical shortcomings, which is where Nintendo SPD and Team Ninja would come in).

When was the last time Nintendo did any reboot to their franchises? Reboots won't really do much except changing the storyline and that could be a problem.

I don't want Team Ninja Gaiden anywhere near my Metroid ever again!

@Artwark I was think pretty much this.

Frist of all Metroid doesn't need a reboot. Maybe they just need to go back to its roots but Metroid has never been popular in Japan so why bother trying to make them like it. I think Retro got to do the Primes because it was pretty much only popular in the west anyways.

I would love to see a new side scroller with 3d effects. Really would like less hand holding though. Also love them or hate them I want another Prime style Metroid. I can only dream of what it would look like on the U. It's a genre badly needed on the U as well.
