U-Turns sound interesting.
I don't mind the idea of the new battle mode as much as everyone else seems too... sure you may not come across players too often, but I don't really want a million items being thrown at me when I only have three balloons before I'm out.
The last few battle modes have been pretty bad, but this one looks a little interesting.
I made a list (posted on page 90 of this thread) of all the Mario Kart retro tracks that have been remade. I'm not going to copy it here since it's really long, but here is a summary of how many tracks from each game have been remade.
45% of Super Mario Kart, 9/20
94% of Mario Kart 64, 15/16
40% of Mario Kart: Super Circuit, 8/20
75% of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, 12/16
69% of Mario Kart DS, 11/16
38% of Mario Kart Wii, 6/16
19% of Mario Kart 7, 3/16
It's a shame there hasn't been many retro tracks from Super Circuit. There's actually some pretty neat tracks that would look awesome in the modern age, like Cheese Land, Sunset Wilds, and Ribbon Road. But all Nintendo's been interested in bringing from that game are generic circuits and Bowser Castles.
Years from now when the next Mario Kart rolls around for the next Nintendo handheld, it's looking like the retro cups will be dominated by more recent Mario Karts and only one track from 64 with Wario Stadium.
Yes, it will be a sad day when only 1 N64 track returns in MK9. Perhaps it's time to remake some of the older remakes? DS and Wii didn't add too much to the retro tracks. Or I would pay for DLC in MK8 that remakes already remade N64 courses. I still feel a bit ripped off that we didn't get Double Decker for Battle Mode.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)
