I'm sure a full 12-player online battle mode will be hectic enough, on the right map. Besides, we've been slowly but surely ignoring battle mode more and more. It used to be a big part of the game back on the N64. Then unlockables became a big thing and it kinda cut the battle play. At least, from my experience, it did.
Unlockables were not what killed Battle Mode. Heck, Double Dash had unlockable Battle Mode courses.
What killed Battle Mode was stupid design decisions like forced team gameplay in Wii.
There was one other thing that killed it though; level design.
A good arena in a combat related game mode has to have quite a few things. Enough space to drive around without crashing into opponents constantly or being so large you never find anyone. Obstacles to use as cover or hide behind. Spots to use as item 'sniping' locations and for advanced tactics. Etc.
Mario Kart arenas post about 64, didn't really have that. They were too small, too square, too lacking in things to do and generally had little replay value. And battle mode suffered immensely as a result.
I can't wait for this game. My Wii U hasn't been getting a whole lot of love recently but that will definitely be changing on May 30th, this is one of my most anticipated titles this whole year.
Well, it's official. Nintendo is allocating Mario Kart 8, meaning G2k (A local game store that is also a small chain) won't get any copies on launch day, and they had to cancel my preorder and give my five dollars back. I guess I'll just rush into stores on launch day and hope I can find a copy... What I don't understand though is why Nintendo would allocate this game in the first place. Are they really just trying to push downloads or what? I don't know... Well, here's hoping I can find a copy on launch day...

I guess since there aren't many Wii U sold out there, they might produce less copys of the game and they need some to put them in their bundles, I guess. lol
If that is the case, it is plausible that they allocate them to bigger stores/chains.
Well I'm from Germany. I didn't experience any kind of this in my gaming history. x)
I don't know really how it works elswhere, but I get all of my games on time. If anything, the games are a day or more early on the shelf.

Too Bad. It might be only in your store. It's not happening here in America...

Well guess it doesn't happens in the US but where is G2k anyways?
I think I'm going to end up canceling my pre-order and buy it off the eShop instead. I can get $5.00 dollars back through the Digital Deluxe Promotion (which adds to my $10.01 balance), and I can get coins from Club Nintendo by doing surveys to get prizes, etc.
Overall, the download for me seems like a better deal. Especially since the download date will most likely be on the release date.
Forget Gamestop and their crap.

Um, I live in America... :/ I could go preorder it at GameStop or something, but at this point I don't want to go out and pre-order it again. I'm pretty sure I'm safe just rushing out to the stores anyways

Yeah, don't pre-order from Gamestop.
Recently, they've been cheating me quite a bit. They used to take $5 for pre-ordering a game, and you really wouldn't have to end up paying tax (since the $5 they ask for pretty much goes to tax). That was before. Now, they want $5 for the initial pre-order, plus tax, which is bull crap for me since I'm poor as hell. You could just end up paying tax without the pre-order, but adding $5 extra dollars for "getting it early" is nonsense.
Also, if you download games off the eShop, you can avoid tax altogether by changing your zip code.
Just pay straight 59.99. No tax.
I highly recommend downloading it instead.

Hold on though! If you wan't to still get a free game, but you're downloading Mario Kart 8, you gotta have a Club Nintendo account linked to your Nintendo Network ID. Otherwise, it might not automatically register and you won't be able to get a free game.
The only downside to downloading games is that it'll take a while. Plus, just like the CD form, it might require updates.

There is no way I'm downloading it. I'm the kind of guy that always wants a case. Plus, my NNID is on my brothers Wii U, because we don't have a family Wii U yet. So when my brother moves out he's taking his Wii U with him, and I don't want to lose any of my eShop purchases when I switch my NNID over to a new Wii U.
You know, before I thought of switching to digital, I considered the fact that I might wan't to bring it to other people's Wii U's and play there... but then I decided that wasn't important because I don't have friends anymore. Looks like I'm staying solo in gaming from now on.

Also Digital Points Promotion. I'm moving so... I'll be living with my gf... no no friends for me either lol.
This can't be true... MK8_Stats
Are they serious?!
So apparently, DK is excluded from the "Super Heavy" category, but Wario's in it... Nintendo I don't even....
So it seems Rosalina got bumped up from "Cruiser" to "Heavy".
Maybe she uses gravity to make herself heavier? Maybe she got taller? or she got fat
