Glad to see it happen too. He’s both experienced and dedicated, has a clear vision, and has learned from what did and didn’t work through the most successful timeframe in nintendo history. It would be very unwise to remove his focus out of tradition of firing on the first failure just to find the quickest buck and forego any longterm brand identity and lasting, far more valuable brand value.

Iwata is amazing and relatable.

I agree. He's fumbled pretty hard, but I like his dedication to hardware and think his plans for the future are mostly solid. Maybe not so much in making the Wii U a piece of hardware meant to rival the PS4 and XBO, but in return Nintendo to being a successful company. It's always nice to see a company that you like doing great, but at the end of the day, what matters is that Nintendo and its partners continue to release good games on the Wii U. If they have to fiddle around in weird markets like Amiibo and QoL to achieve that goal, so be it.

Japanese companies are usually reluctant to embrace change, but Iwata is beginning to realize that he can't just try to repeat the success of the Wii and DS. He caught lightning in a bottle and it isn't happening again. Hopefully success in other markets will give Nintendo the resources and confidence to improve the gaming experience as well. To be selfish, if there's anything I want on the Wii U, it's not EA or Activision's support, it's online service to rival the PSN (or Live, I don't know, I've never owned an Xbox).

Pretty much this. He has made some really stupid mistakes, but if it keeps Nintendo from simply moving all their focus to mobile gaming I think its the lesser of two evils.

He has made some mistakes in recent years, but let's not forget that not that long ago he led the company to amazing profitability with the DS and Wii. So, I'd cut him some slack. The fact that Nintendo is a videogame company ruled by a man with the knowledge and experience of a game designer and producer has got to be a plus too. Iwata is not just a corporate suit. Give him some more time so he can make amends for what he has done wrong, because he is surely very committed to do just that.

Good.
They can now go back to doing the bare minimum and saving his butt last minute with a E3 presence that's only seen as good because it couldn't get any worse.

Nope, this really doesn't make any more sense at all no matter how many times I read it.

Congrats on being the only guy in the universe that thought Nintendo's E3 sucked this year though.

There is a Japanese saying between the samurai that if you fall 7 times, you should get up and try the 8th time.

Iwata has made mistakes (who hasn't?) but he keeps going forward. And instead of firing his underlings, he takes the blame and the salary cut. And he has had like 3 successful systems in a row, that is not to be understated.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Personally, I don't think anyone could've made a sucessful home console that rivals the big guns while still making games we all would've liked. I feel like this was the right choice, at least for the gamers.

Glad to see him stay. He's screwed up, but he's trying his best. Its his mess he should be the one who tries to fix it.

You didn't finish the headline.

I liked what he said regarding layoffs. I think a lot of American companies would benefit long term if they had his outlook.

"If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, and I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world.

I, too, like this decision. It's nice to see some humanity from the corporate side of things, and I like the attitude Iwata shows about the employees as well as the chance he's being given by the shareholders to continue turning this boat around.

To run Nintendo you need to:
A. Be Japanese.
B. Be able to speak English.
C. Have experience in all aspects of video games- making games, budgets, and marketing.
D. Have a track record of some success running a company.

Iwata has all these qualities. I'm no expert in Japanese business, but I'm guessing there isn't many people with his skillset ready made for the job.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Thank God. I don't know how much of it is intentional, but Wii U has had the best timing in the universe in the past 2 months to the point that I have to believe the higher ups put a lot of thought into what games have been released lately.

I mean, you can't tell me its a coincidence that the Wii U eShop started to matter for the past month before Mario Kart came out or that Mario Kart coming out weeks before E3 was unexpected. And after E3 one of the most anticipated eShop games and Nintendo's next eShop game came out. And the timing of the GBA releases like this was brilliantly planned.

The grand plan - to keep Iwata in powah!

I'm so glad Iwata was re-elected. Especially after such a strong E3..

Were you in a coma when E3 2012 happened?
