I don't get why people constantly complain about the Wii U's third party lineup.

Apparently it's because every multi-platform release from the last two years and all upcoming releases aren't already available or announced, because that's pretty much how every other console launch has ever been.

Because as we all know RE4, God of War, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Guitar Hero and Shadow of the Colossus were all right there ready for the 360 at launch..... oh wait

I am just going to put a random question here, why the heck did the 360 have such low sales in Japan. Microsoft cant just keep ignoring a huge chunk of the market. As long as Nintendo and Sony sells well there, Microsoft can do fantastic and still have lower sales worldwide.

360 is more geared to Western developers.

I cannot emphasize enough how pointless Xbox has become with PS3 around. No wonder Microsoft is so focused on its non-gaming features, my god...

1) How would an Xbox get God of War or Shadow of the Colossus in the first place?

2) that's not exactly comparable. The 369 still got a lot of games close to when they launched on the older systems. However the following year the 360 was included in most of the new game releases something that can't be said for Wii U.

But it did get

Gun
Call of Duty 2
Fifa O6
Madden O6
NBA Live 06
NBA 2K6
Need for speed most wanted
King Kong the game
Quake 4
Ridge Racer 6
Tiger Woods 06
Tony Hawk American Wasteland
Geometry Wars Retro Evolved

I think a problem is that when we look back in hindsight 5 years from now or even 10 months from now the Wii U could have an amazing launch/Windows line up. Problem is that were still waiting for games to come out.

Another bog perception issue is that the Wii U is in the same postion the 360 was in during 2005 and we haven't seen Nintendo push it as near as well. Off the back we knew what was coming a year in advance and Microsoft took advantage of being the only console on the market grabbing tons of exclusive content. Right now the Wii U is looking like

NintendoLand
News Super Mario Bros U
ZombiU
Rayman Legends
Scribblenauts unlimited
Lego City Undercover
Monster Hunter Ultimate
Wonderful 101 (I'm guessing this is in May)
Nano Assault Neo
Little Inferno
Chasing Aurora

As well Nintendo has been pretty damn vauge on what they consider a launch windows.

Whereas the Xbox 360 window looked like

Kameo Power of the elements
Perfect Dark Zero
Project Gotham Racing 3
Ridge Racer 6
Amped 3
Condemned Criminal Origins
Quake 4

But in the end who cares about all that when one has fun games to play.

I will say that I'm really confused at Activision for porting the Amazing Spiderman a year after it released. Quite a few Wii U ports fall into that thinking, Its probably good of your Nintendo only but a lot of those games I played a year before.

Microsoft publishes a lot more content on XBLA than Any of Microsoft does LM their respective platforms. (Which is ironic considering the while Microsoft no like games meme)

Sony only uses PSN for a few more art house titles which even though usually are good is a huge waste of the platform.

I'm looking forward to Nintendo's first party platform as they usually support 3DSware well (fluidity, pushmo, sakura samurai) they also have quite a few developers that will only develop for Nintendo platforms. (Renegade Kid, Shinen, Way forward Original titles)

Wii U has been out for two months and you're already saying this. Did the 360 get all those games in two months? I doubt it

1. Top ten games on metacritic for the Wii U in 2012 vs the top ten games on metacritic for 360 in 2005
Untitled
it really does speak for itself.... as well as the fact that the total library for the Wii U was larger....

2. We're not even a month into 2012. The way games are anounced these days we don't know what the Wii U library will look like by July let alone by the end of it's first year

Did you notice that in my previous post I listed all of the best selling games of December 2012 that didn't come to Wii U. It was a list two games long... and it included Halo. So if you want to "win" whatever argument you are trying to constuct here to make yourself feel better about the 360 for whatever reason I'll give in on your God of War and Shadow of the Colossus point.... but now there's just Far Cry 3 in the "games the Wii U missed out on" list.

4. Quite frankly I don't care about this whole fanboy war thing. My only point was that the Wii U had a pretty damn good launch, better than the 360 did even. Even if it didn't though and if it falls into a Mario/Zelda/Metroid only hole I still won't be losing too much sleep over it because it's really just fun. If the Wii U never gets Watch Dogs, the next indie awesomeness, Portal 3 or whatever I'll just play it on PC.

As the list Sony_70 posted points out, I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you on this point.

Oh, they did. Don't you remember those JRPGs that hit the 360?

Console market is rapidly shrinking in Japan and with most Japanese devs also trying to apeealing to the west their isn't that ,much of a point.

But early on they did try to push the console hard in Japan,

Lost Odyessy
Blue Dragon
Tales of Vesperia
Infinte undiscovery
The last remnant
Star Ocean 4
Phantasy Star Universe
Final Fantasy 11
All of those exclusive shumps
Dead or alive 4

Market didn't care for what ever reason. Even last year Microsoft showed off having exclusive games for Kinect made by Japanese developers.

Diablolical Pitch by Grasshopper Manufacture
Haunt by NanaOn-Sha (the creator of parapa the rapper)
Crimson Dragon by Grounding Inc (the dev team behind Panzer Dragoon and Phantom Dust)
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor by From Software

Don't know if Microsoft plans to invest heavily in Japan again. I have heard that Microsoft wants Crimson Dragon to become a franchise. I think aquring a few Japanese developers would be a good start since they lack a presence in the region when it comes to owning studios compared to reasonable investments in North America and Europe.

A shortlist would be

Grounding inc (Microsoft wants crimosn dragon as a franchise and I want another Phantom pain)

Mistwalker (don't care who just somebpdy save them from doing ios games)

Pick up Devil's Third and the stupid since Igataki's deal with THQ fell through.

Platinum- a purchase would probably never happen but would love to see them work on Jet force Gemini with Vanquish as a template.

@Sony_70
You make a lot of good points. I had a 360 at launch (braved many a cold, early morning in front of Target to finally get one), and I did buy and play a bunch of those launch games you listed like Perfect Dark, Kameo, Gotham Racing 3, and Quake 4. It may be an honest case of nostalgia, rose-colored glasses and all that... but most of those games sucked, man. Perfect Dark was a poorly programmed and poorly realized game that didn't hold a candle to its pedigree, let alone a FPS game of any sort. Quake 4 was a complete mess, if you remember- frame rate and graphical issues to the point of constant frustration. Kameo was Rare's next attempt at a collect-a-thon, and the game was "aight" as far as something to play went, but for me there was no magic to it and no motivation to replay (I did beat the whole thing). Kameo also started with the dreaded paid DLC model. Gotham was pretty good, I'll give you that. King Kong... dear god, does anybody remember that King Kong game? I won't say much there- I think anybody being honest with themselves realized how poorly done that game was.

Skywake posted a list of review scores and, as he said, it really does speak for itself. The Wii U has had an AMAZING launch with high-quality titles, regardless of said titles being releases other consoles have seen. Even if you have already played Batman, COD, Mass Effect, Darksiders, etc., which have ALL received good review scores and are acknowledged as being good games, there are STILL high-quality games such as NSMBU, Scribblenauts Unlmited, ZombiU, Mighty Switch Force, Nano Assault (it is short, but nobody held that against Geometry Wars all those years ago- don't start now!), and Nintendoland.

The Wii U's launch game quality blows other console launch lists out of the water. If you can't find enough to tide you over from November to February, four months, on even just the first-party games listed above, I don't know what to tell you. It is so frustrating to look at some of these sensationlist headlines being posted on gaming websites and forums about the Wii U's launch failure and the "dry spell"- how soon we forget previous console launches, and how quick the populace seems to curse Nintendo is truly disturbing.

Out of the list the only one that wasn't exclusive I think was Tales of Vesperia.

Really wish Cap com would have brought the monster Hunter MMO here.

But yeah Microsoft has been spending since 2011 restructuring their development studios. I think they need to wither add some Japanese studios in their Arsenal because there is just a certain flair those games have.

Their last few Japanese collaborations have resulted in some of my favorite games.

Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero still hold up well today. At least kameo does IMO. But they were good games despite being rushed,

Wasn't kind Kong the game without the HUD?

I agree on all counts. The biggest reason why its getting blown put of proportion is because the Wii had a lot of software droughts when the other systems didn't. While having a lull is pretty common for the predicament the system is in it brings up bad feelings from the Wii days.

We will know in a few months when we learn the launch line ups for Durangp and Orbis.

That list is actually pretty laughable to me. I mean, if Wii U doesn't have more than a couple of interesting ports of 2013 games IN 2013 than it still wins but that's a joke. But again, as I've said many times before, HD gaming before and after 2008 is like day and night. I didn't like HD gaming much before 2008 (and even in 2008 when I started playing my new 360 I got in Christmas in 2007, outside of Oblivion (which in retrospect I only thought was amazing because I had not played another game like it more than quality) most of my time was with the few Xbox games I owned like Crimson Skies and Ninja Gaiden and GTA San Andreas). By the end of 2009, I thought HD gaming was pretty awesome. Day and night. Not just because of XBLA because I still don't use it too much (to my eternal regret).

I can agree with you maybe on Kameo, but not Perfect Dark. Yea, King Kong didn't have the HUD. My best friend in college bought it first thing when it came out, and I remember many days sitting in that dorm room, trying to enjoy that game. I don't think it received any critical praise, either, unless my memory is wrong on that one.

As for the Wii drought bringing back bad memories, I guess that's the part of the conversation where I can't really participate. I didn't even own a Wii last generation, and in fact I spent a good deal of my time being angry at Nintendo for going that route with the motion controls and all that. I only became interested in the Wii U when I saw the gamepad, did some reading, and liked the direction Nintendo seems to be going. Coming back with more of a "classic" controller in the form of the gamepad, while still keeping some motion controls (gyroscope, sensor bar is still there, etc.) appeals to me. It's the nod I needed from Nintendo that they meant business about getting back their core gamers that may have skipped out on the Wii because of its reputation for shovelware and gimicky motion games (I know ALL the games weren't like that, don't worry).

Edit: spelling
