@TheLastLugia: I guess he could turn into the owl for some moves like the king turning into the boat, he is also the sage of light in oot so they could have a outfit of him in that.
Ok, so it seems like even on a regular 3DS that Legends might be the way to go. Would anybody disagree with that assessment? Also, I have one other admittedly subjective question. Zelda is my favorite series and I own every single game in it. I almost exclusively buy physical games, but may start making an exception for Zelda ones since I know I will never trade them in. Even though this is not considered a canon Zelda game, do you think it is enough of a Zelda game that I will want to keep it and should download it (obviously waiting until My Nintendo is live)? I can't decide because on one hand it seems like a game with a ton of content that will be handy to just have on the system. But on the other hand, a lot of that content seems to be just replaying the same stuff with different characters and I might get bored of that and want to trade it in. What do people think?
@Xyphon22: I think the general concensus is that you don't want to EVER play Legends on a regular 3DS. It runs like garbage on it. Not to mention, (I learned this recently) but some of the later missions in Adventure Mode are literally impossible to do on a regular 3DS, because some of them require several thousand kills within a set time and the regular 3DS physically can't generate enough enemies for you to meet that goal. What this means is not only can you not complete those missions on a regular 3DS, but they give you weapons you need to make the end game easier, so it effects you after that too.
As for whether or not to get it physical or digital, Hyrule Legends is the sort of game you come back to again and again. There are many characters to level up, tons of skill trees to complete, and heart pieces and skulltulas to collect. And you won't be doing the same missions over and over thanks to Adventure Mode and its many, MANY Adventure map missions across several unique Adventure maps. You will never be short on new things to do. So all that being said I'd say go digital so you will always have it on you. I have the same policy you have about games I know I'll never trade in, so I got Hyrule Legends digitally.

@Detective_TeeJay: That's what I thought based on initial impressions before the game came out, but everything I have seen or heard about it since it released seems to suggest that the issues on a regular 3DS are not nearly as bad as they were made out to be. But if that endgame stuff is true that would definitely be a problem. Can anybody confirm or deny that since you say it is just something you heard to be the case?
Also, I know there is plenty of stuff you CAN do in the game, but is it stuff that is really worth doing or are you just doing it to try to 100% the game because it's there? Are there actually differences when using different characters, or is it just doing the same things over and over again with different characters? And I couldn't care less about different costumes if there is no change in the actual gameplay from them.
@Xyphon22: Costumes are just a visual change but weapons change up the gameplay. How you approach a stage would be different comparing say the master sword and fire rod (master sword is more about short range attacks while the fire rod is more about long range). Certain missions do force restrictions on you in Adventure mode like you can only use a certain character or you can only use a certain weapon. Getting all the skulltulas for each image unlocks a special level which some of them are inspired by memorable events in the main Zelda games (the season pass will add 4 more of these). There's also enough variety in the types of battles that would keep you satisfied (again, even more types will be added via the season pass).
As for physical vs. digital, I'd say physical because there's no way for you to actually test how you feel about the slowdown without buying (as NoA doesn't have the demo) so you'll at least get money back if the slowdown annoys you too much.
Thanks for all the info, everybody. I think right now I will probably go for Legends, even on my regular 3DS. I don't think I will really care much about slowdown and lower framerate, and quite honestly, saving $40 will probably be worth it even if it is true that it is impossible to finish the later challenges. But I will probably wait for a sale somewhere, and maybe NOA will put out the demo at some point so I can truly make up my mind before I buy it.
It's been 9 hours. I think it's okay to double post.
So I unlocked quite a few things in the Adventure Map, including Agatha, Ruto, Skull Kid, Tingle (Omg his introduction animation killed me, lol. That eyebrow wiggle), and most interestingly Ganondorf's trident. Ganondorf is SO much faster when using the trident. I love it.
I'm more familiar with how Adventure mode works now. Like how you need to use item cards to get enemies or rewards to appear, and how some squares on the map have walls that turn the map into a sort of maze so that you have to go through a specific path to get to the prize you want on the map. It's all very interesting.
I do feel like levelling up characters will be a massive pain, though. So far the only way I can think of to "grind" for a mission is to keep trying over and over again and fail at passing with a high enough rank until I level up enough, while buying one or two levels in between. Is there a common way to grind that people use that I just haven't thought of?
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
I'm kind of disappointed that the difficulty of the first Adventure map has largely dropped. Or maybe over 500 hours gameplay on the Wii U version made it very easy and so if I started with Legends instead of Wii U it would be harder?
Well, since it's not possible to get any level 3 weapons before the third adventure map, the first one had to be balanced out. It's still not super easy, though.
I like it better this way, it makes for a more natural progression now that all the DLC maps are taken into account.
I guess it also means the maps on the original game remain unique.
@TingLz: Yeah, the first Adventure map contains the 4 characters present from the Wii U version of that map, 2 of the Legends "exclusive" characters and the 3 Wii U DLC characters.
On a separate note, I managed to A rank a stage I was really struggling with in the Wii U version thanks to Ganondorf's Trident. The speed makes it much easier.
