Does anyone think the Wii U may someday be viewed similar (though not AS highly acclaimed) to the Dreamcast? They're both innovative systems that were/are brought down by lack of technology compared to their competitors and an absence of third party support. However the first party support was excellent and needs to be applauded. I think, while it may not be as legendary, the Wii U someday will be viewed as the underdog console with a lot of charm that just couldn't compete with the big boys.

Please don't compare the Wii U to any of my beloved SEGA systems. Each of their consoles had something that made them unique — without resorting to cheap gimmicks — and they are my all-time favorites for a reason.
My Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast will forever be in my memory. They made me proud to call myself a gamer, in a time when people thought gaming was for antisocial creeps.

The Wii U will, at best, be remembered as the Wii that never caught on.

Hit a nostalgic nerve did I? And the Gamepad is only a "cheap gimmick" because developers are barely using it.
The Wii U already blows the Sega Saturn away in terms of quality. That system was always a technological neanderthal that couldn't even produce 3D.

The Saturn has better games than the Wii U overall. Comparing like for like take Chronicles of Mystara the Saturn version is perfect (Other than it only supports two player local co-op). The Wii U is the least buggy of the modern ones but rubbish.

Shenmue was going to be on the Saturn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foZUcPQAMvg - 3D and looks better than anything else from the same time period.

Playing through all the best Wii U games takes less than a month. The same for the Saturn probably takes a decade.

The Wii U still has years ahead of it, obviously it doesn't have the library size of the Saturn yet but it has countless titles to come, whereas the Saturn's library is done. And I don't care about some unreleased game. Given the budget Shenmue got Nintendo could make a game that surpasses PS4/XB1 graphically quality, and actually have it be released.
The Saturn was incredibly behind the times. It was a 2D system in a 3D generation. Obviously you can't get past childhood nostalgia, and that's fine, but it doesn't make your points any truer.

Yes every console has exclusive games, but the Wii U clearly has the best. That's what matters. Xbox One tried to be "more than a gaming console" and it shows, only now that they've distanced themselves from that notion has the console started to pick up any steam.

You're looking at it in terms of its competition in 8th gen. I'm looking at multiple generations. Sure, maybe Wii U has the best library out of the 8th gen consoles, but that's not saying much. Would you say it has a better library than the Wii? How about the N64? NES or SNES? I would say that among Nintendo consoles, it has one of the worst libraries so far, there's not a lot of creativity or innovation in most of these games and quite a few uninspired sequels.

Well obviously right now it has one of the worst libraries, because it's still a new system. But games like Nintendo Land, The Wonderful 101, Splatoon, Project Guard, Project Giant Robot are showing that Nintendo are one of the few companies today to still care about innovation.
Not to mention other amazing titles like Super Mario 3D World, Shovel Knight, Mario Kart 8, DKC: Tropical Freeze.
The Wii U won't have the biggest library, but it'll end up having a very high quality per game ratio.

Azooooz

It will be the most talked about console in forum history.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Innovation wise, I'd still say it's one of the worst. You have quite a few Classic style rehashes like NSMBU, DKC: TF, and 3D World which reuse an existing gameplay style and add next to nothing to it, even in this point in the other consoles' lifespan, you had way more creative games than this. Fortunately they're just starting to show a little more of their creative side with games like Splatoon and Captain Toad, but even then I'd say most of the other consoles have Wii U beat in that department. We've never seen a game for Wii U as revolutionary as games like Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, or Super Mario Galaxy, and quite a few of the games fail to do much with the Wii U Gamepad.
