I'm very pleased with the design if the new Viking characters! They definitely look like something Rare would've made. Happy to see they're not tearing away from Donkey Kong Country's original style.

While i'm always looking forward to what Donkey Kong and Metroid have to offer. I admit, i'm somewhat disappointed that Retro Studios haven't touched Metroid since Other M, and even since then, have touched on Donkey Kong 3 seperate times in a row. I know that they touched on Metroid 4 times in a row, but seeing as how Other M wasn't as strong as it could have been, you'd at least think that some resolution would come out of it by now. Oh well, there's always time, i'm still good with their Tropical Freeze choice overall.

@Electricmastro

Retro Studios only made Donkey Kong Country Returns, that's 1 time. The 3D version was adapted by Monster Games.
They developed 3 Metroid Prime games, they had no involvement with Other M.

This would only be their second go at the DK series, and I'm really glad they decided to make it. There's plenty of time for more games from Retro to show up on Wii U, maybe even a Star Fox or F-Zero game. We'll see.

So, who do you think the secret playable character is? We've got DK, Diddy and Dixie Kong so far, so could Kiddy Kong be the final one? Or will it be some well known Kong like Funky Kong or the like?

Heck, I even saw someone suggest K Rool himself as a playable character, given that they're desperately trying to keep the final one secret and K Rool is probably the one possibility who they wouldn't want to announce immediately.

Funky Kong seems most likely to me. Kiddy is loathed by a lot of the fan community, but everybody loves Funky Kong. Funky like a monkey!

I could totally see levels where you control Funky's plane and shoot down hordes of enemies - similar to the mosquito levels in Rayman Origins.

I've got to admit, watching those videos has made me very excited for this game, despite my initial disappointment.

I know this sounds expected probably but I wouldn't mind seeing Kiddy Kong again. Kind of missed the big guy.

@Dev Thanks for posting those videos, bro. Wouldn't have seen them otherwise.

The game looks good so far, gameplay seems very smooth. Might not buy it immediately, but if it lives up to the challenge of DKCR I'll definitely pick it up.

As for the secret character: It can't be Kiddie! See, this game (and the last one) where made so that you always have the supporting character on your back (if you play alone)! If you would have Kiddie all the time on your back, that would slow down the game drastically!

"I could totally see levels where you control Funky's plane and shoot down hordes of enemies - similar to the mosquito levels in Rayman Origins"

I could totally see that happening too! Maybe these levels come after the boss levels! As a means to get to the next island!

Maybe the third playable character is Cranky Kong. It sounds pretty ridiculous even to me, but I think Retro could pull it off. Either that or the character he was referring to could be a new animal buddy like Enguarde.

I have some hope for this game, it does look decent. I watched my friend play it at Best Buy and he had a pretty good time at it. I recorded it so if anyone would like to see footage, we got both the mine cart level and the boss fight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFrFwJW2K2s

That said, I'm sure this will be a great game and I'll be buying it! I'm just not expecting anything groundbreaking from Retro anymore, until they prove me wrong.

Then again they have also acquired talent from Vigil Games (Darksiders), Crytek (Crysis) and Naughty Dog (Uncharted), to name some. In terms of having the talent for AAA-games.. they has it.

I am pretty pleased with the announcement of a new DKC. I like the whole idea of viking enemies. It is a refreshingly new idea.

This game looks like just a cash grab or a pathetic attempt to get sales at any cost to save iwatas job. Nintendo is not focusing on the big picture, which is to get a variety of gamers to buy the wiiu! all they are releasing are platformers, which i enjoy, but i think most people want variety. the people who buy games, particularly 3rd party games will not be attracted to the wiiu with DK tropical freeze. it looks like just a copy and past job of the wii game, with a few new characters and levesl slightly modified.

It also feels like nintendo doesnt want to invest in the wiiu, yes alot of games are coming, but they are all side scrollers. side scrollers are way cheaper to make than epic games and they dont want to invest that kind of money in the wiiu, i think they are afraid it has failed, and are just releasing the most cheaply made games now in an attempt to save it with out investing money. However if nintendo doesnt want to support the wiiu properly then why should third parties.

Anyway i hope who ever gets this game enjoys it, it looks pathetic to me

I am not expecting anything ground breaking from retro any more, they seem to have lost their way

I played all 4 stages. Excellent game. Will easily top Returns for me.

Really, considering it makes far more business sense to release a sequel to a proven seller when you need sales.

A new IP or a sequel to a game that didn't sell well is not going to do that. At least not as easily as this will.

You do know that there are a lot of people who enjoy sidescrollers right? Otherwise how would New Super Mario Bros. Wii sell over 20 million copies. And it was Retro Studios decision to work on another DK game in the first place. Your definition of an "epic" or "AAA" game may differ from other people's so keep it cool man.
