Well, mobile investment surely didnt go well for them and now they're cutting their forecast by half. It's sad that they are in this state but they got themselves in the hole. So much for that Monster Hunter 4 sales money then. That was were they invested most of it. Maybe now Nintendo will consider buying them again now they are down again. It has been the one company Nintendo really could buy and gain good HD dev talent. Also Capcom would benefit from Nintendo's ability to make intelligent use of popular franchises.
I never really cared for Monster Hunter, they let their mascot, Mega Man die, and Clover Studio went defunct a couple of years ago as well. There's not much left of Capcom. They certainly aren't as big anymore as they used to be.
If any of the big 3 could really use some of Capcom's franchises, it'd be Nintendo, and those franchises would benefit from Nintendo's direction as well. I'd have hope for RE 7 if Nintendo had some of its top talent overseeing it. It's more likely if the company gets bought, it'll be by MS though.
^No worries about that. An american company can't buy a japanese one that is filing for bankruptcy. This is why microsoft couldn't buy atlus.
i thought it was due to atlus not really being a big thins for such a western console. atlus games are very niche everywhere except japan who could care less about microsoft
Nintendo really isn't in a position to be buying companies right now.
And even if they were, why would they purchase Capcom? All of their talent outside of Ryozo Tsujimoto (MH producer) has left and they've shifted a lot of resources to mobile, so all the HD talent OP is referring to isn't really that notable. Anyone interested in buying Capcom would probably save themselves a lot of cash by just purchasing their IPs.
Capcom is dooomed, so Nintendo should buy it so dooomed companies stay together.
In all seriousness, Capcom is not what they used to, and they should release smaller games because their big budget games (RE 6) are killing their profits. Their business decisions (SF x T) do not help either.
To answer OP, It doesn't make sense for either Sony or Nintendo to buy Capcom as a whole. If Capcom did start to have real problems (Which they are not) and actually went bankrupt it makes more sense for Sony or Nintendo to just buy up IPs and studios then the whole company.
What's stopping sony or Microsoft from buying them?
Sony's having money problems of their own, and Microsoft can't buy Capcom because there's a Japanese law that doesn't allow non-Japanese companies to buy out Japanese companies despite that Japanese companies can buy out non-Japanese companies (like how Square Enix owns Edios and Namco Bandai owns Atari)
Doubt it, everyone already said Monster Hunter won't allow it, I'm sure their money will skyrocket once again once 4G hits later this year. (and maybe a little more when it makes it here next year)
