I forgot that the fortresses can be the funniest thing ever. In theory the best way to go about it is to be stealthy but half the time losing the enemies for long enough is so easy that you can find a hiding place, kill 1 or more guys in that hiding space, and then do something else to get the guards' attention. So I think 10 of the guards are in the same pile of hay, it's pretty amazing. Undecided if that justifies how terrible the AI can be at points.
@kkslider5552000
It does. The only games I've ever seen absolutely perfect stealth(IMO), are Metal Gear Solid after the first one.
Metal Gear Solid on PS1 was the worst game of that series despite being the first entry, IMO. Twin Snakes on GCN does the game alot more justice. There was a mode where you couldn't even be detected besides during the boss fights.
Metal Gear Solid 4 on the hardest difficulty basically required you to seriously lay down in an area for upwards of up 1 minute and crawling slowly to make sure you were in the clear in order to progress through the levels sometimes.
Even so, It's still pretty easy to tell that computers are controlled by AI, which is the actual problem, IMO. That's why they need to give CPUs randomly generated personality or something, so that every CPU character isn't always the same and predictable.
So.. this game is on sale for $24.99 at Best Buy as a Deal of the Day offer. I'm tempted. I like stealth games but have never really been too interested in Assassin's Creed so I never played one. I've heard from some people that this is the best one. Is that true? Should I pick it up?

It's both really good and really laughable as a stealth game. The design of the stealth from a level design perspective is solid, if sometimes overdone, but the AI can be really easily tricked or stop following you too quickly and it just becomes silly. Though personally that becomes part of the fun.
I'd mainly get it if you want a good pirate game though because that part of the game is fantastic.

I played AC4 at my friend's house the other day. It's a fun pirate game. It has a bit of a different flavour compared to the others. Superior to AC3, in my opinion (AC3 is so boring!). I'd say AC4 is worth the $25.
There's no Desmond in AC4, thank god, so you don't have to deal with those parts.
I should have bought it earlier but I hesitated, now the Wii U version is sold out. Thanks anyway guys. I'm sure I'll see it again at that price eventually anyway. If I had the gamers club coupon I probably would have done it, but I'm not in that club.
@SCAR392 you ever played the original Thief or Deus Ex? They're probably the best stealth games I've played. Honorable mention to Hidden and Dangerous.
@Nintenjoe64
Yup. I bought Deus Ex on Wii U. I played through it twice before I felt like I had gotten enough from it. It's a good game, but I think they could have made it more complex then they did. I think Metal Gear Solid is a better stealth game, but it's a decent game.
I was going for no kills in my first playthrough, but I had to kill on a certain point, because I wasn't properly equipped to do stealth or knockouts.
On my second playthrough. I basically killed everyone, because it's alot easier that way.

+100 internet points for playing Hidden & Dangerous, awesome and underrated series.
As for AC4 the game is awesome when you're sailing the sea's boarding ships and having naval battles, everywhere else its quite boring and feels like a chore. I would say rent it if you can as you will no doubt want to sell it off soon if you buy it anyway. The multiplayer is meh also as they really didn't capitalize on the whole pirate or naval theme.
This has to be one of the best Wii U games out there.
Way better than 3, I just like how it doesn't take it self too seriously in both the modern and past.

My only knock on AC4 (and AC3) is the frame rate. It's constantly around 22-26 fps. IF this title ran at a solid unwavering 30fps (and I know it could with optimal porting efforts) then it would play such much smoother.

The Shadows are incredibly awful.
