Hey guys,

I don't know why nintendo doesn't make 3ds games available on the wii-u through the e-shop channel. It wouldn't be an easy task but I know I'd lose my mind buying 3ds games to play them on my TV.

What do you guys think?

They would indeed be huge.

So huge on my HD TV that they'd look atrocious.

Best thread ever

But the 3DS has like 10x the install base of the Wii U...

Who exactly would this sell to? Everyone who has a Wii U already has a 3DS. Two of them!

I think nintendo intends to release the ds family of games on wii u, but to be played on the gamepad....both screens would be in the gamepad, thats what i understood about that...

Now, about the 3ds...its possible, nintendo has said that they would like for their software be compatible with every hardware...i want ALBW (zelda)

kinda pointless since the 3DS is cheaper than the WiiU.....
but it can happen, it's Nintendo after all.

GBA games are going to be even worse. Things could be done with 3DS games to make it more acceptable but pixels you cannot really.

no really, 3D Graphics get FAAAAAAAAAR worse when enlarged and stretched compared to 2D graphics.
I mean, ports happen WiiU has MH3U and RE:R but they could never make 3DS titles available for WiiU without apropriate porting or making it VC like(no graphical upgrades or changes)

It would, but its not gonna happen.

Yeah they would have to do some magic to make it work right but it's not impossible. The 3ds doesn't look great on the 3ds screen... But if they came out with hd versions of the classic 3ds games it would be really cool.

Someone said that people who have a wii-u have 3ds's... that's true at least for us... we have 2 3ds's and 1 wii-u but I prefer the TV console experience over the hand held experience... that's just me. I'm sure there are many others who prefer the handheld experience... Would be an interesting poll

takes too much time and also resources

  • low sales.. most Wii U owners already have a 3DS/3DS XL
  • can you imagine the poopoodoodoocacapoopledooplestorm thrown at nintendo if they decided to port all the popular 3DS games over to the Wii U instead of making new games?

Wii U hasn't sold well yet.. and as was said before, most Wii U owners already have a 3DS/3DS XL... only a few people would consider buying the same game for 2 different systems.. even fewer if we're only talking about a proper HD-port instead of some new features like with Wind Waker HD etc.

it would be one gigantic waste of time and resources

You can actually do fancy tricks with 3D stuff that makes it look good. (Windwaker on Dolphin at 1080p oversampled for example).

Integer multiples of pixels is all you can do without messing it up. (Those filters are dire).

so the only real problem is a marketing point of view.... no one would buy a WiiU just for a 3DS game

But they are even less likely to buy one for a GBA game. (Or a NES romhack). There are people I think who would play a Link Between Worlds if it could be on a TV.

DualWielding

The Wii U has some games that interest me but not enough for me to buy the console, the 3DS has lots of games that interest so I boutght one... I don't really care about portability so if 3DS games could have been played on the Wii U I would have bought one instead of a 3DS

Eeeexxxactly ... I know 3 couples, off the top of my head, that have a wii-u that don't have 3ds's that would pay for a link between worlds and a whole bunch of other games. That's hardly a market but I know they would buy it and I would too.

There are more 3ds's out in the wild than wii-u's so focusing software efforts on the 3ds market makes way more sense... but it would absolutely be awesome.

Nintendo has quite recently stated that the ideal situation for them would be one where people would be able to consume ther software in whatever hardware they prefer...and not have to start the user base from scratch again with every new hardware launch

I prefer to play 3ds games on my Wii U, as im not interested in buying a handheld...and there are other people out there like me

The only way they could get 3DS games on Wii U to be worthwhile is if they use the Wii U hardware to render the visuals at up to 1080p natively (no upscaling). This would likely break compatibility and produce unwanted results for many games though. 2D emulation is much easier to deal with, which is one reason why GBA games are coming to the Wii U VC.
