I would more readily buy Pokemon Emerald though, because of the Hoenn pokemon, but ONLY IF I can transfer the pokemon to my more current games.
You can. Use a DS / DS Lite (not DSi) to move them from Emerald to a 4th generation game, and then you can transfer them from the 4th gen game to Black/White if you want. If you also still want them on Emerald, just clone them with the Battle Frontier duplication glitch first.
VERY late response, but I don't have my DS Lite anymore. I meant I would get Emerald if I could transfer my pokemon from that soft copy of Emeral to my Hard copy of Platinum, Heart Gold, or Black.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I'm assuming you could to Platinum and HeartGold because they allowed for GBA to DS transfers via the PalPark but you wouldn't be able to do so to Black/White since there is no GBA to DS transfer.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I wouldn't because (and you'll need to take of your nostalgia goggles for this) generation I sucked.
Wait, what?
Indeed What?! The Old Pokemon games like Red/Blue/&Yellow had a darker story then today pokemon games. How meny Cubone's Mother die in the other pokemon game, and then fight her Ghost! and how meny Slowpoke's tails have you eaten? The old pokemon games are still great RPG, and we didn't need to worry about EV or IV training, Rare Candy is all you need.
The first generation sucked because of the fact that THEY HAD SO MANY GLITCHES, the graphics were garbage, the Pokémon were uninspired designs.
The graphics weren't bad for an original GB game. Even with a contrast dial, the original green screen still had pretty bad constrast, so simpler graphics were necessary.
I haven't encountered any glitches in Yellow (didn't play Red/Blue) but the first gen Pokémon are great and way more creative then the crappy ones in the last few games.

I'd prefer the GBA remakes with the ability to palpark to DPPt/HGSS intact, as well as wireless trading with friends. I don't want to have a crapload of portable systems lying around, so that would be perfect (though probably too much work for Ninty). I like the streamlining HG/SS did, so I'd prefer the remakes.
I may pick up Yellow for nostalgia's sake, but I can't see them releasing it, just because I can't see them changing the code to allow for wireless trading/battling.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I would buy older games. Haven't seen any bad Pokémon game (I think R/S/E were worst in the series but still not that bad) and I don't own games from 2 first generations (other than Snap on Wii), I have still played them a lot and Gold is still my favorite Pokémon game. It would be nice if they could add trade and battle between two 3DS and have an option to trade Pokémon to new games like D/P/Pt had Pal Park for GBA games. But this will probably never happen...
Check out my Gaming Nonograms thread here on Nintendo Life if you are into Picross or other similar games.
I enjoyed the first gen to bits back in the day, but I don't think I could go back. There've been far too many improvements and evolutions over the original gameplay design, and there is fortunately a better way to get my nostalgia fix. The GBA remakes, which incorporate the current IV/EV system, as well as natures and abilities, which in my mind really define the Pokemon experience at the moment. The only thing missing, which I also find absolutely important at this point, is the designation of specific moves as physical or special. I just... couldn't go back.

They sucked.
