I love those old games, but like I say to most things, I'd much rather go on Amazon and buy the original GB carts. I have three handhelds I can play them on
I wouldn't buy red or blue. The lack of a run button really frustrates me, and every time I start a new gen game I just am so agitated while I wait for the running shoes. Bikes ok but useless around towns.
I would get yellow though, purely for the fact u can get the squad that Ash had in the show basically... (pure show nostalgia)

And it wouldn't bother you if the battery in each one was completely dry, rendering all attempts at saving the game utterly futile? Cause it'd bug me like random encounters in Viridian Forest, believe me!
I don't think the games are outdated at all. Over the years there isn't much changed in the serie. I loved the first serie for their simpleness. Just 150 COOL Pokémon and simple gameplay without all the nonesense of dressing them up for fashion shows or whatever. Just catch them, train them, let them fight. But since I still have my Yellow cardridge I probably wouldn't get them.

The 1st generation batteries last a lot longer than the 2nd generation batteries, because they don't have to keep track of the time or date.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

It didn't suck any more than all the other critically acclaimed RPGs of the 90's. I'd probably download them, because my old carts probably won't be able to save for much longer.
I wouldn't because (and you'll need to take of your nostalgia goggles for this) generation I sucked.
Wait, what?
Indeed What?! The Old Pokemon games like Red/Blue/&Yellow had a darker story then today pokemon games. How meny Cubone's Mother die in the other pokemon game, and then fight her Ghost! and how meny Slowpoke's tails have you eaten? The old pokemon games are still great RPG, and we didn't need to worry about EV or IV training, Rare Candy is all you need.
