Anyone have experience replacing the battery in a GBC cartridge? My copy of Link’s Awakening DX saves as long as the Gameboy is powered on, but as soon as I turn it off the save file is gone. My brief googling indicates it’s an issue with the cartridge’s battery. Does anyone have experience doing this?

Just get the correct bit to open the cartridge, and the correct battery to replace it.

Soldering is recommended to replace it, but you can also just wiggle the old battery off, and tape the new one in. (You just need to be very careful doing either method, you don't want to remove anything besides the battery itself!).

If you can't find an appropriate screwdriver, you can also modify the head of a small flat heat screwdriver to make it like a 2-point fork, or melting a pen into the shape of the screw, as the old hack goes.

However, the special screwdrivers are rather easy to buy online.
