Yo! So I'm doing a nuzlocke run of Emerald right now, and it'd definitely be more fun if other people got involved. I'll start recording some of my playthrough if there's interest...
The gist of it is A) You can only catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each location. B) if your Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and may no longer be used.
Those are the two firm rules and then there are a bunch of things you can change to suit. For example some people will catch a Pokemon that isn't their first encounter, if their first encounter was a Pokemon they already had. I'm not sure what protocol is for HM users, but I assume most people won't catch illegal Pokemon to turn into slaves.
I'm in Dewford having fun, I just got myself a cutter so I'll go back to cut the trees I couldn't before!
Dead Robin/ Taillow/ 5-7/ Rt104/ I didn't know route 104 continued after Petalburg Woods, but it does so it was illegal and had to be put down Wild Taillow/Rt114/killed by Britni critical
For an HM(cut) I just gave it to my Starter. As for that, I considered my starter the first encounter in New Bark Town. And for the traded Machop, I was lucky enough to run into a Drowzee, so that was the encounter on that route, and the Machop is the first encounter in Goldenrod. So I used two routes for one Pokemon, but it was worth it. I would have gotten destroyed had I not got the Machop. Some people release their dead Pokemon, but I put mine in the "Cemetary" box.
I'm Panache the brilliant female tactician! I went up against Brawly feeling pretty prepared, Marshtomp tore through Machop and Meditite with ease, and then came Makuhita, the final Pokemon that I had forgotten about. "No big deal I thought, Bulk Up is dangerous, but I have Mud Slap". So I Mud Slap, and he Bulks, and I Mud Slap and he Vital Throws, and my heart sinks... So those Mud Slaps were useless, but Beautifly has x4 resist and Gust, things should be okay. But he has a Sitrus Berry, and a Super Potion. I got him down to within one more Gust before the Reversal I was hoping against killed me. So I sent out Marshtomp to finish it with Water Gun, and he used a second Super Potion.
After two Water Guns he killed Marshtomp with Vital Throw, and had a bit more than one third HP. Shroomish went in to Leech Seed, pulled it off but was 1HKO'd by Vital Throw. Tentacool time! Supersonic missed, and the resisted Vital Throw 1HKO'd. Then Poochyena, just had to switch in and Bite him, too bad he was outsped and easily killed by Arm Thrust. So Whismer stepped in to look at the dead Pokemon left in Makuhita's wake, and watch as the last of its strength was slipped away.
So now I only have the mighty Clarke the Whismer, and inexperienced untested MachuPichu the Lv.8 Makuhita...
