Topic: Old Nintendo games you've never played but want to

So, I was thinking recently about what older Nintendo games I've never really played. I've gone through a lot of their games, but there's some I've missed out on that for one reason or another I want to play someday. Virtual console and other such things have been the way I've experienced quite a few games, but there's still some I haven't gotten to.

-Wario Land 3, the last Wario Land game I haven't played(that Nintendo will ever want to re-sell lol)
-I missed out on both F Zero X and Excitebike 64 on N64. Weird thing is, I have no memory of ever seeing F Zero X when N64 games were still sold everywhere, even after playing Smash Bros and knowing Captain Falcon is from that series.
-The only pre-2010s Kirby games I haven't played are Pinball Land, Star Stacker and the SNES puzzle games, and I love Kirby, so I want to get to those
-Doshin the Giant. We never got that here, always wondered what that was like.
-the Baten Kaitos games. I was so sick of the obsession with card game RPGs and the like when these came out, especially with disappointing spinoffs. But being made by Monolith Soft, I regret that in hindsight.
-Tomato Adventure, the Japanese pre-Mario and Luigi Alphadream game.
-Mario Paint. Dunno if it'd be reasonable to find an original copy, since I doubt that's ever being ported to anything.
-SNES Sim City. It's so weird that that exists in hindsight.
-Kinda curious about Famicom Wars

The main games that always come to mind are the now finished Star Fox 2, and The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons/Ages. Those three games are always on my mind. Also, Star Fox Zero is one I wished I would have played on Wii U even if it isn't beloved.

@kkslider5552000 A lot of people skipped Baten Kaitos thinking it was a card RPG.
The games were a hard thing to describe. They really didn't play like card RPGs despite being RPGs with attacks tied to cards. Nintendo needs to do a remaster, or some kind of rerelease.

Anyway, I never got around to Wave Race 64, Excitbike 64, 1080: Snowboarding, Metroid: Fusion, Minish Cap, Starfox: Assault, or Fire Emblem: Path of Radience.

Odama. I thought it was a cool concept. Never had the cash for it though.

Did just buy bomberman 64 second attack so I can finally give that a go.

So many games. I’ll never have the time or money to catch up.

Hollow Knight for Smash!

Trajan

None. N64 and GameCube games I want I just buy on eBay. NES and SNES I emulate.

Sakurai: Which is why I think we should forget about console wars and focus on what’s really important: enjoying the games themselves.

Paper Mario The Thousand Years Door
The game was literally unbuyable due to crazy price tag on Ebay. 😔
Blame to scalpers for that situation. 😒

@Anti-Matter Do you understand what is a "scalper"?!

Let me educate you. A scalper is a person that buys LOTS of games and hopes to sell them after years for great profit or a person that buys NEW games in large volumes and sells them for higher prices because they are the only ones that has them.

Just because some games on eBay are pricey it does NOT mean that the sellers are scalpers. It means that the games are hard to find and that is what dictates their prices.

Scalpers are people who BUY 50-100 copies of Super Mario 3D-All start and hope to sell them later for 200$ each or people who buy many copies from LRG and try to sell them later for 500$ each.

Learn the difference instead of repeating the same delusion again and again.

Only game I could think of at the moment is Ancient Stone Tablets, that was that Zelda game that came out on Satellaview. Would be pretty cool if that came out on NSO's SNES app.

Never played Wario Land 2 or 3 (I have played 1 and 4) so I might give those a shot once I get them from the 3DS eShop.

I could definitely go for a few more Fire Emblems - the GBA ones, for starters. Paper Mario TTYD, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess - them too.

I really want to play Majora’s Mask, Persona Q, 999 and Link Between Worlds too - the wrinkle is that I actually own them on 3DS, I just haven’t had time to start them yet.

I’ve also got FFVI on mobile, but I dropped it after a few hours because I hate the shiny new art with a passion. Seriously considering emulation to play the SNES version. It’s a gaping hole in my gaming CV that I actually really want to fill!

In terms of something I might just drop everything for to play, though, I guess I’d put the Metroid Prime trilogy somewhere near the top.

Kirby Super Star Ultra
Super Princess Peach
Kirby Canvas Curse
Diddy Kong Racing DS
Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
Pokemon Ranger (whichever is the best in the Ranger series)
Pokemon Trozei!
Brain Age 2
Chibi-Robo 3

These are all DS games I've been considering for years on ordering for my library. The most difficult one to play is going to be Chibi-Robo 3, since it'll be a Japanese import. I still do want to see what the last open designed, 3D Chibi-Robo has to offer as I loved my experience with the GCN original and the DS's Park Patrol.

Beyond the DS, I think what I want to play the most are The Wind Waker and Majora's Mask. I have Wind Waker HD for the Wii U, and I do have Majora's Mask downloaded on my Wii. I've been recommended both a few times over the years. I have enjoyed both Phantom Hourglass and to a lesser extent Spirit Tracks, so The Wind Waker should be a game I play at some point. Majora's Mask seems up my alley with its atmosphere, but I've been skeptical of it with its 3-day cycle mechanic.

Thousand Year Door prices didn't seem THAT out of control last time I checked on ebay a few months ago (though granted, I was specifically looking for a Japanese copy for REASONS. Like $50-60 plus shipping, which is only crazy because typically Japanese versions of RPGs have low resale value.) I can't remember what US copies were selling for then but I think it was actually LESS. $50 for a high-profile RPG in its English version might be high but I don't think is quite "scalper" territory. It's still at least close to what the games originally sold for. Now when it gets to $100+ I might argue.

Though I do still have my original US Player's Choice copy I bought new back in the day (which, since it was reprinted and I even remember buying after getting my Wii so that was even a few years after the game was released, is probably what kept its scarcity relatively down).
Maybe it is just a Japanese or Asian version that is in lower supply due to that even "poor" selling Nintendo hardware seemed to still sell better in the US market than others.

@I-U Don’t let the 3-day cycle stop you from playing MM. I was also skeptical before I played it for the first time earlier this year (the 3DS version) and the clock is what makes it so brilliant. There was only one time that it was truly stressful for me, when I beat a dungeon boss with 30 seconds to spare. The game has the best storyline, characters, dungeons, and bosses of any Zelda. You need to play it now.

Same for you @Krull

Hollow Knight for Smash!

KingMike

@ToadBrigade I've tried to play that game and all I feel is that it is the most melancholy game I've played in my lifetime.
The progression resetting mechanic almost makes us a statement questioning our choice to play video games more than Jack Thompson could have hope to achieve in his lifetime (and for anyone who remembers that clown, that's a pretty big statement). Oh, the virtual swamp has been detoxified but I guess we should enjoy it for the remainder of the 72 minutes before our heroic deeds gets erased from existence. Unless you're unlucky to be playing the Japanese version without suspend points in which case it's only going to last that length of time if you can afford to keep playing the game that long.
It's like "have we even accomplished anything?"

I mean, I know you keep your items and there's warp points that you are meant to use to be technially able to make progress but again, way to make a video game whose core mechanic makes us question the futility of the hobby.

Hey You Pikachu. It sounded mind boggling to me as a kid, a Pokemon that lives in your telly which you could order around but it never got released in the UK as it couldn't understand too many regional accents...bloody Geordies and Scousers! I'd imagine if I ever do play it will be a big disappointment.

@MarioLover92 yeah I wanted to play the Satellaview Zelda games too, they sound horrible but I want to play them anyway for a sense of experiencing the entire Zelda franchise.

To list a few:

Pokemon Colosseum/Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness - Missed out on the GameCube entirely, would love to play both as a Pokemon fan.
Star Fox Adventures - Same reasoning as the above. Plus I think the action/adventure gameplay would be more my speed; I've played the first two games on the SNES Classic and, while they're decent for their time, I wasn't too impressed with them. Not big on on-rails shooters in general.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - Same as the above entries.
Link's Crossbow Training - Missed out on this one. Sure, it's a spin-off, but one I'd like to try. I'd take a re-release with a new peripheral even.
Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland - Only because I'm a huge Zelda fan, and this looks delightfully weird. IIRC this wasn't even released in North America.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - I'd love to see this localized; I've played FE7/Blazing Blade, which serves as a prequel. I want to see what happened to everyone.
Mother 3 - Need I explain?

Honestly sad that the one Mother game I actually consider really good is the one that's Japan only.

Mother 3 made me care way more for its story and characters than Earthbound ever did
