I tried what @ThanosReXXX and @Darkrula said. I have turned ABS, traction control and stability control off. I can't deal with manual transmission unless it's a real car or at least a real wheel and pedals. I also tried braking with the trigger as @NEStalgia does but it doesn't seem to work. Of course I can drift with the handbrake but it's random and I can't control it.
So this is what I am trying now:
1. Go high speed.
2. Tap the handbrake and release the gas.
3. Steer right (on a right bend) and push the gas.
4. Steer left to not drift out and keep pushing the gas
At last! Now I can switch the X to my 'home' console. And play some more Horizon 4. Though there is Assassin's Creed...
@BlueOcean That Subaru WRX I mentioned for the drift tap challenge is a great one to use for all drift zones. When you get into a slide, you need to manage where the wheels are pointing at all times, turning in the opposite direction to the turn to extend the slide when needed and pointing them back into the turn to keep the drift going. You don't also want to be pushing the accelerator at all times. Just as the wheels need to be managed, so does the power and braking.
On occasion, there can be times where you'll end up in an understeer drift - where you'll hug the inside line of a turn while still accruing points - but on the times I've pulled them off I've had no idea how I'd done so.
@BlueOcean Yeah, something like that. Don't release the gas, though, if you're using the emergency brake. The sequence is almost instantaneous, much like with the other method: so, tap the emergency brake for a second, then steer into the bend, and once you're leaving the perfect line or middle, steer against to compensate and stay on the road and in the drift.
Another thing to remember, for both methods, and something that even some people used to analog controls tend to forget in the heat of the moment, is that the speed and the brakes can be varied/dosed, so you don't need to keep the throttle all the way down all the time. Only once you need to start the drift, so when you drive up to the bend, it's full throttle, during the tap brake sequence, it's either release the gas or temper the gas, and only once out of the bend again, it's full throttle. You just need to practice and play with that a little, to both find the most useful method for you and for the game/the achievement.
On a side note: I'm sorry to say that this Kalamari desert moment still doesn't make much sense to me, especially if it is supposed to be tied to train crossings. Is it a game or movie quote, or a British thing? Not meant to offend, but I simply don't get it.
@NEStalgia Smashcember? That must a new low in cheesiness...

@BlueOcean My own feeling with the ebrake is that it's not ideal for drifting, ever. I know there's a way to do it, but I've never found the ebrake useful for doing much of anything but really hard pivots for hairpins and <= 90 degree turns. Of course that's with traction/stability off and steering on simulator. All drifting I do is purely the normal brakes and letting off the gas. @thanosrexxx mentioned a good point, too, I tend to feather the throttle quite a bit.
@thanosrexxx no cheesier than THQ's remaster names. "Re-Marstered" indeed
Okay, so I’ve just played about only about an hour of RDR2 and I can see these controls are going to start to annoy me. Hold left trigger to talk to Dutch, which is bizarrely the same as when you want to aim to an enemy to shoot which resulted in me not talking to him but holding me gun to him. And the shooting isn’t even that great to begin with. I’ve heard about this a lot online but now I have started to experience the game first hand, I can certainly see why there’s voices of complaints. I am curious as to what other problems I’m gonna run into.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rockstar address these kinds of issues, assuming they can or actually care.

@NEStalgia@ThanosReXXX speaking of those they got patches for the X not sure if you guys heard!
Been playing AC Odyssey all day, what a game. Enjoying it much more than RDR2. Not quite up there with GOW for me but Ubisoft has really come a long way since the last AC I played (Black Flag)
@redd214 Thanks for the info, but that would only be useful for @NEStalgia, seeing as I only have an Xbox One S...
And besides, if there are 4K updates for any game he owns, he probably already knows about it...
As for me, I'm currently quite content with not having an X yet, seeing as this month's free download Battlefield 1 is already a whopping 74GB, even without 4K texture pack. And I'm certainly in no rush to fill up my newly acquired 4TB external hard drive with all that extra space-hogging content.
I could imagine that with the number of games that I already have on my Xbox One S now, the necessary amount of storage space would be almost double of what it currently is, due to the amount of games that
I have that come with 4K texture packs...
@redd214 Dòh...
You tagged just us two, and directed the message at us as well, so naturally, I responded in the way that I did.
No offense meant, though.

@DarthNocturnal Oh, no worries, I'll play it regardless, and perhaps one of my friends wants to play the odd online game with me every now and then. Haven't gone through the trouble of downloading it, just to remove it again without even trying it out...

@FragRed good to see you are having the same rdr experience as the rest of us . 7 years.... And we have horrid controls and animated sweetbreads
@redd214 glad you're liking Odyssey! I still only played the first hour or two on launch day. To many started games :l. But i was liking it! Interesting you like it more than rdr. I haven't formulated an opinion yet, to early in each. I'm a long time ac fan (black flag wasnt an ac game imho) so I'm partial to the series, but rdr does immersion uniquely. I have heard about the x patches... That's great!
@thanosrexxx
At least with bf it's really an online game with a cool bonus campaign that your have to dl maps for. I loathe when single player games make me download 10gb of patches for dlc and maps I'll never buy or use.
@NEStalgia This is why you need other games to play for when you get too stressed out and need a break from time to time. It just feels like a step back from what you expect of a 2018 game. Heck, I even think GTA V is better in controls.
