Both State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves have a very strong "wait a year" odor about them.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Grumblevolcano

@Dezzy Possibly Microsoft getting desperate, wanting to delay games but can't because the 1st party lineup is already very limited even with those games in the lineup. PUBG for XB1 was also a rushed release just to get something out there.

@NEStalgia Did I break the record? I believe I've done better in the past...
Most of the times, when I notice it myself, I'll add a text wall warning at the beginning, so people know what they're getting themselves into...

And yeah, it seems like we do have some pretty different viewpoints on things. But my issue was not so much with a difference in viewpoints, because we are all different, and we all have a right to our own views and opinions, but what I said was well-thought out, and worked for me to convey how I see these things, and for that to be somewhat challenged, kind of ticked me off. And you still misunderstood the options part: that was options on the cars, NOT on the consoles.

I likened the differences in options between the cars to the differences in exclusive content on the consoles, because in my view, that's the same, because those options that one car has, are either impossible or not standard on the other car. Just imagine a Ferrari with a mini bar: at most, it would probably be a micro-bar...

But I'll drop it here. Enough with the damn cars already. And in all honesty, I was having a really bad day, so I kinda got carried away, because it was all a bit of a reversed Martini moment, if you catch my drift. If not, I'll give you the solution to that one in the next reply.

As for the Minis: I did have a bit of trouble securing a SNES Mini, but this time around with the NES Mini, it was just a question of walking into my local game shop and pre-ordering it, and that was without any problems whatsoever, so either Nintendo has really learned their lesson, or I just happened to be there at the right time. Which I don't believe, by the way. Can't be lucky all the time...

With the SNES Mini, I had one of the last remaining pre-orders, so if I would have tried to pre-order one a couple of minutes later, it might have been gone, but luckily I got there in time.

Nintendo did make an official statement recently, that both Minis will be made available until the end of this year, so if you still want one, regardless of having the original console already, you should be able to get one sometime this year. I would actually think that it would be easier to get one in the States as opposed to in Europe, let alone a small country like the one I'm living in.

Where the console apps are concerned, I will confess that I actually HAVE used my Xbox and my Wii U sometimes to watch Directs or E3 presentations, but only on occasion. The Wii U came in handy with Directs because of the GamePad, allowing me to simultaneously keep the TV on, and there's just something about watching the Xbox E3 presentation on the actual console itself: kind of meant to be.

And my PC often has trouble keeping up with these live streams, so it's a frequent visit to the buffering screen, which is annoying as hell, so I've given up watching any of that on the PC. Well, at least not live...

Yeah, the Quantum Break thing. I tried to look up the article that mentioned this, but I can't find it anymore. But I don't really need it, because it happening is actually reasonably logical, much like how online support for other games will eventually disappear. All, or at least most, of the videos are stored on the server and not on the disc, and as you already know, certain events trigger the playback of the videos. I've never played the game myself, but I've seen quite a bit of footage, both online and at my friend's house, who actually has the game ever since it launched.

And the library: that was a LONG time ago for me. Back when I was a teen, I was mostly into adventures and mythology, predominantly Greek mythology. Not so much a places guy where books are concerned, although Greece is obviously a place...

But it was more about the era for me. Those dark, mysterious times when people still had all kinds of perceptions of the world that are by now completely alien and often times even ridiculous to us. I wouldn't mind going back there for a couple of days or whatever. Would at the very least be a nice change of pace from all the online negativity...

Oh, and as for Ryse: I probably already know what you're going to say, but here you go:
http://cheapdigitaldownload.com/ryse-son-of-rome-xbox-one-dow...

But trust me, whether or not you buy the physical or digital version, get that Legendary Edition. It's a really nice complete edition of the game, so it contains all you'd need.

ThanosReXXX

@CanisWolfred Really? None of it? In my opinion, although a modest list, there's a little something there for everyone. And most popular genres are in there. Oh well, to each their own, I guess...

But I'm kind of hopeful that we'll see some good stuff at this year's E3. They simply HAVE to make a move, or be the lesser party again, which might lead to more problems, and I don't think that Phil Spencer is about to let that happen. Either way: I'm pretty confident that I'll have more than enough good games to play on the Xbox One, regardless of all that. Luckily, I actually DO have a pretty broad taste in games...

@ThanosReXXX - I'm sorry, do you really want me to give you a reason why I don't find any of those games interesting?

ThanosReXXX wrote:

@CanisWolfred There's more interesting stuff to come besides Crackdown 3 and The Last Night:

  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Black Desert Online
  • Ashen
  • The Darwin Project
  • Ori and The Will of the Wisps
  • Halo 6
  • Gears of War 5
  • Fable 4 (still rumored, but reasonably likely)
  • The Artful Escape
  • Below
  • Astroneer

And of course, there's already Sea of Thieves, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and State of Decay 2.

  • Deep Rock Galactic - I don't like procedural envirnments in games, and I really can't stand voxel art. I'm also not really impressed with the co-op focused gameplay, or rather, I can't stand multiplayer in general anymore - that could cover a third of the list here, but trust me, even those have more reasons beyond that. Even putting multiplayer aside, however, it still seems to be selling itself mostly on a gimmick that falls flat when they aren't even willing to make textures that would give their world and characters some identity.
  • Black Desert Online - it's an MMORPG.
  • Ashen - I Can't Believe It's Not Dark Souls: Escort Missions Edition (Feat. Faceless McGee).
  • The Darwin Project - **** Battle Royale.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Actually, this was the only good game you listed. It's just that I own the first one on Steam, and so I will get the sequel on the same platform instead of splitting up the series and making things more confusing for me. And Microsoft will put it on Steam eventually if they actually want my money.
  • Halo 6 - I haven't played Halo 4 & 5, and the general opinion I've seen is that the series is past its prime and now they're just beating a dead horse. We'll see, but it's certainly nothing that has my interest until I'm caught up. Just so we're clear, I could say mostly the same thing about Metal Gear Solid 5 and The Witcher 3 at this point. There's no point in using up all of my excitement years before prime time.
  • Gears of War 5 - Why is this series still a thing?
  • Fable 4 - Seriously, why is this series still a thing?!
  • The Artful Escape - WTF did I just watch???
  • Below - Yeah, I never liked their games. Really unpleasant artstyle mixed with tiny sprites that honestly just made things more difficult than they needed to be. Below doesn't look to be an exception, so I'll pass.
  • Astroneer - Actually, this doesn't look half bad, I'm just tired of Survival games. Maybe it'd peak my interest in about 5 years? We'll see.
  • Sea of Thieves - AAA early access should be put on a pike in the middle of town square, and then burned as a living effigy - it's the only thing appropriate for such a medieval business practice.
  • PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds - Seriously, **** this game and all of its hellspawn. Never before have I found a more generic-looking, stretched out, fleecing, unpolished, and utterly boring game whose core gameplay idea exists to waste boatloads of your time, all from a game that still somehow garners the undeserving respect from its audience. And that was on PC. Like Hell would I waste my time on an inferior version of this trash.
  • State of Decay 2 - I wonder if the devs who still make zombie games are aware of the inherent irony?

So yeah. I was trying to be nice before by summing up my feelings as "I'm not interested in them." I have a lot of strong opinions about Microsoft's upcoming line-up. Usually have, that's why I gave up on them after 2014. I might even be giving too much credit to Crackdown 3, but I'm willing to believe that its developer can make "Yet another power-fantasy open-world game" interesting, much like they did with the original Crackdown. The Last Night also...just looks like it'll hit some notes that I've known to be a sucker for. I'll admit, I really haven't seen enough gameplay to say whether or not it'll be a good game.

Why is any series still a thing? Because they reliably sell enough copies to make a profit. Only necessary reason.

Like one of the comments that was made earlier. Phil Spencer has been all talk. Desperately releasing half finished games, releasing hardware but no software that utilizes the hardware and Crackdown 3 is still in development hell.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Someone just suggested to me that Fable 4 might be a lot further along than anticipated because they were asked to use all of the assets that had been created for Fable Legends.
I didn't consider that. It's possible! It'd be cool if it was an early 2019 game.

@CanisWolfred Erm.... no. I didn't ask you for a reason at all. I was simply surprised that between all of the games that both you and me listed, there was so little of interest to you. Which would imply that you have a very specific taste, making your choice pretty limited, even if the list would have been longer.

Doesn't bode very well for the upcoming E3 either, then...

redd214

@ThanosReXXX none of those games you listed are of interest to me either, doesn't mean I have "very" specific tastes at all. Quite the opposite in fact.

I mean was just looking at the list of games I've played over the last decade or so, over 30 different genres/sub genres. I have a very diverse taste however none of those speak to me.

For me it's just Halo 6 from that list. Haven't played enough of Gears 4 and Ori 1 for Gears 5 and Ori 2 to be worthwhile purchases meanwhile the rest don't interest me.

Angelic_Lapras_King

Eh, I'm more thankful I have a huge backlog to discover. Funny enough, the game I seem to be playing most is Pac Man 256, that game is damn addictive. XD

Space wise, I got a 1TB X model though already down to under 200GB which shall be reserved for for game disc purchases and downloads I want the most over others. Got a backlog of 60 (!) Games With Gold games that I stocked up on waiting to be installed while near 30 games are currently installed. I do plan on investing in an 8TB HDD at some point (I did hear the XBONE is capable of using 2 16TB External HDDs at once, but have you seen the actual size of the current ones? XD).

But yeah, I love my XBONE X. While sure it might of been better to buy a PS4, I was just a big fan of the 360 and this really is a great follow up despite an okay home hub. Even though I don't own a 4KTV, it looks amazing on my 1080p HDTV! Everything runs and looks so smooth, even watching Lets Plays on the youtube app even the footage for some games like Pokemon Fire Red look so damn smooth. XD Needless to say, I can't wait to get a 4KTV to REALLY see this beast of a console at its best.

Heck, when you beat the main Scarecrow story in Arkham Knight in 1 big 12 hour session for someone like me that tends to keep to 1-2 hours, you know you're onto a winner. Even if there's not much on the horizon first party wise, I have more than enough digging to keep me happy for a very long time.

redd214

@Angelic_Lapras_King Arkham knight is a great game. I still have a few challenges left to 100% but it was super fun. So many characters, so much lore explored. Can't wait to see what Rocksteady does next, maybe we find out next week!

...Not really, and that's why I gave specific reasons for why I'm disinterested in those games. I have broad tastes, and there aren't a lot of genres that I dislike on the whole outside of sports simulations, Horror (and then there are still exceptions), and definitely the Battle Royale genre. And I guess walking simulators, but I don't actually consider those to be games unless they try to be more engaging than simply watching a story unfold, or finding notes of a story that already happened, and yes, that goes for visual novels, too - except I at least have a decent list of games that fit that mold.

I just don't think any of those games look like they're worth getting excited about.

Uh, SoT didn't have “AAA Early Access“. Technical Alpha was free; you just had to sign up (which didn't even require another account or anything, just XBL).

I think I misrepresented what I was getting at since I was getting tired. Obviously it wasn't an early access game, I shouldn't have focused on that part. It was just early. I've read the reviews, seen the footage, read up and listened to feedback and developer/publisher responses...it shouldn't have released in the state it did, with barely any content and no real reason to come back after a few hours. I don't even care if it gets better afterwords - yeah, I've seen their road map, I still don't care, because I'm tired of getting nothing but promises from these online experiences - it looks no different than the indie early access games that strung me along a few years back. I'll wait for the sequel, after it's released, after people have been able to confirm that it's a fully fledged product that's worth my time and commitment out of the gate, not 6 months, 1 year, 2 years down the road.

I really wanted Sea of Thieves to be good, but that was just unacceptable in my opinion.

Good news for those who don’t like single player games on Xbox ~ https://www.mcvuk.com/business/mcvs-bumper-e3-issue-is-out-fe...

Matt Booty wrote:

”There will always be single-player games with maybe 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, we love those kinds of games and there’s a place for those, but it’s also certainly the case with the focus on watching, streaming, broadcast and esports that it’s really important to think about the longevity of a game," Booty explains.

Lovely jubbly!

They just make it really hard to feel enthusiastic about their present situation and the foreseeable future, given that Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 had a fairly ho-hum reception at launch.

In a year when we have had the likes of Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War, why would you openly say that you’re doubling down on chasing after the current GaaS trend?

@Angelic_Lapras_King 4k terrifies me in its HT implications. I imagine it'll be 15+ years before I actually see 4k even if I buy a 4k display. for people that just have a TV and plug a console into it its easy. But if you have a receiver (a very expensive receiver that can live a very long time, and is not easily replaced or reconfigured in the system) that doesn't pass through 4k, plus cables that are older, plus multiple switches and repeaters....audio breakout modules, and 100% of that has to be replaced?! That ain't happening here. Worse, take a look at a lot of the repeaters/switches that say they support 4k. They actually support 4k @ 30Hz....I.E. 30fps locked. Not 60fps. And the ones that do 60fps are the $300 boutique versions of $40 parts. I'll keep my 1080 for ages for gaming at least, thankyou!

Yeah, instead of an 8TB HD, I went with a 2TB SSHD for the load speed boosts when reloading the same area/game. Then I'll get a 4TB external drive to keep as a "extended library backup" type thing. 6TB external should tide me over for "things I want to have without downloading/reinstalling" and keep the rest in the cloud.

I actually bought Elder Scrolls Online.....this console makes me do funny things. (Good promo, last day, pre-order Summerset for $40 and get Tamriel Unlimited + Morrowind expansion free.) I don't like MMOs but this one seemed kind of interesting for fans of the solo games. I hope I don't regret the "needs 3 players" quests.

@Peek-a-boo I just don't get the modern world. Watching, streaming, broadcast. Why... I mean just why? Why does everybody think they're a celebrity worth broadcasting, and why do people enjoy sitting and watching OTHER people play video games? Remember the kid that would hog the NES back in the day and make you watch him have fun and called it "we're playing games together" When did that become the desired outcome the industry builds around?!

I don't think that's just MS though. That's really the whole industry as created by MS and EA. But to be fair, it was MS and EA that wanted to push the GaaS trend to begin with....suits their business trajectory.

Sorry thanos, but thank goodness for Sony and Ninty to save us from the perversions of MS and EA. One step forward, two steps back. It's a great console. Just not for their highlighted games.

I can't help but think though that their chasing after GaaS has less to do with not believing in the sales success of single player games (I mean they ARE watching the competition are they not?) And more to do with the fact that GaaS games can be built fast and cheap and fixed on the fly, without the upfront time investment a good solo game requires when they have neither time, nor a complete studio with which to make one.

Either that or the bubble they live in has an even harder shell than the one over Nintendo HQ. I think part of their aim is also to turn the XBO segment into a kind of Facebook/Twitter of gaming and the social bubble that encompasses....their investment probably banks on the "socialness" of gaming while that's a marketable investment industry.
