Monster Hunter blueprint can be applied to all sorts of gameplay ideas.

I’m not expecting game that resembles MH any more than Pokémon Legends does. But we’ll see. I haven’t really liked any of the MH knockoffs, though God Eater 3 at least does its own thing, kind of.

@JaxonH Dauntless as cool looking monsters, but the fights just aren't, whats the word, dynamic? They feel like plastic running around the screen, and getting hit just doesn't have they impact i'm looking for.

Yeah, I think the impact can't really truly be felt until you go from one and then back to the other. I played Destiny and Overwatch for years on a controller and I'd like to think I was pretty decent at both. Switched over to the PC versions of both and at the time, in my head, it didn't seem that different but then when I was at a friends house and tried to play those games on a controller again boy it was rough. Like even turning up the sensitivity to the absolute max, it was like my character was weighed down by a dozen sandbags, slowly dragging my reticule around the screen. It was from there I stopped playing shooters on a controller entirely for years, this only really changed with the Switch and Gyro, where I make the odd exception (but I still prefer a mouse overall).

But yeah, despite gaming on PC for years, I still don't feel very comfortable using the keyboard side at all. Games that have a lot of inputs (like I dunno, a melee, a block, a special move, items etc) I tend to basically put all of those on my mouse - I have a Naga Trinity with multiple plates, allowing me to add up to 14 extra buttons on my mouse I think? - as it just feels more comfortable for me doing those with my right thumb. I guess because in a way that is closer to a controller and it is just what my hands are used to.

I don't use a mouse but my friend has even said they can't go back to controller because of how slow it feels to move it, I'm sure if I was playing shooters on pc for long enough I would feel this.

But instead for me, Once I turned my sens up, I have to turn them up for all the shooters, I have even gotten to the point where I'm lowering the deadzone for more precision, But thats just my experience with shooters, I only started playing them like a few years ago.

There is deffo a balance to be had. You see the pros with those giant ass mouse mats about as big as my living room swinging their mice around like it is a bola to make the smallest of movements lol. I actually learnt in the opposite direction, not having a desk for a long time, so I learnt to use the mouse on the arm of my chair. This meant I had little space to move the mouse, so every slight touch had to compensate. This meant low sensitivity and high DPI, like the opposite of what the pros teach. I remember once my friend came round and tried to use my mouse and he couldn't hit a damn thing, haha. I've been slowly lowering the DPI and raising the sensitivity for a more normal set up now I have a desk.

Shooters are either KB/M or controller with gyro. That's it.

I simply cannot... no... will not... tolerate anything less.

Shooters with a controller and no gyro is like, worst of the worst, bottom of the barrel control scheme I wouldn't wish on anyone. It sucks the fun right out of the game. Fun? Ya, that's gone. No fun left. Just bitterness and frustration over an inadequate control scheme that will never be able to realize your intent.

Might as well be gaming on a harmonica or one of those Playdate handhelds with a turn lever. In fact you'd probably have more fun doing that than playing a shooter with dual analog.

@Pizzamorg Damn, thats hardcore LOL, I actually used to do that for flash games on newgrounds, I don't think I was half bad, But I only did that because sometimes I would want to lay back, and well I don't have Mr. fantastic arms so I had to put it on rest, Worth it!

That is probably the main benefit of mouse and keyboard over controller is the flexibility it gives the player. Even when there are button mapping options, you are still always more limited by a controller.

@JaxonH Its actually not that bad, I have been playing shooters like that for a wile, sure I had AA I guess, I can have it lower'd now (Sorta) no problem (Eh).

TBH when I played splatoon 2 during the trail, I was having a hard time with gyro, maybe I wasn't moving my arm right? I just need to get used to doing to two motions, of moving my stick, and my whole ass arm! If more games start adding it I will totally learn, not like I would have a choice at that point.

@Pizzamorg This is true, Its just fact, your whole arm, or your thumb to get the movement done? let alone a dead zone blocking how much you can move in a single space.

@Snatcher
For gyro you shouldn't need to move your entire arm. That much movement defeats the purpose of fast and natural response.

For gyro its all in the wrist. Small movements like you're giving a presentation with a laser pointer. You wouldn't wave your arm around to do that, you'd just ever so slightly aim with wrist movements. That's how gyro is best played.

Dual analog without gyro only works because of backend assists the player isn't aware of. Take those away and it's a dumpster fire. The problem is, even though those assists make controller players competitive, they do so by sucking the fun out. Unless... "winning" is someone's definition of fun and they don't care if it was from their own skill or a computer aiming on their behalf.

I don't find it fun at all to have the game aim for me.

@JaxonH Thanks for the tips, For AA the game doesn't really aim for you, just slows it down, They only do that because half the time there's cross platform play, and they need to make it fair for the controller players vs the pc players. In my opinion, high AA ruin the game, because it will stick on stuff that I don't need, or it will slow down on every damn thing it can aim at.

(Note sorry if it sounds like a controller vs pc player thing, as I'm not trying to get into a debate about that)

Bullet magnetism happens behind the scenes without you ever knowing about it.

Also, camera turning slower around targets is also something that happens behind the scenes without you ever knowing about it.

The only aspect they (sometimes) let the player control is where your reticule automatically snaps to the target.

If you ever want to see what dual analog without any assists truly feels like, there are numerous aim training programs on Steam that simply process raw analog signal inputs against targets, such as Aim Lab. Once you experience that, you'll quickly realize two things: 1) dual analog is woefully inadequate, 2) Games add a ton of assists in the backend most players are never even aware of

Either way it's bogus aiming. Either the game adds enough assists to make dual analog viable, and sucks the fun out of the game in the process, or it doesn't, and it leaves you trying to assemble a car engine with nothing but rubber bands and duct tape. You just don't have the right tools for the job.

It's a lose lose. And, it's not really about "console vs PC" because you can still use bogus dual analog on PC, and you can still use amazing analog-gyro or keyboard/mouse on console, in many instances. It's truly an issue of inadequate tool for the job vs adequate tool for the job, nothing more, nothing less.
