@Zuljaras Ah, that could be right, but I do remember reading about them testing all titles, including Xbox One titles, to see if they worked correctly, so I'm guessing that although the OS is largely the same, there's still some things that aren't quite 1:1, so they need to configure every game individually to make it run smoothly, which is actually also what kind of already happened with Xbox 360 titles on Xbox One, although these actually came bundled with an actual emulator instead of a simple configuration file to tweak console settings.

Ok I double-checked the 360 enhancements by trying some games that ARENT enhanced for the One X, so I had something to compare to.

The difference is incredibly noticeable. The 360 and OG Xbox games that had resolution enhancements on the One X absolutely have those enhancements on the Series S too, despite the earlier claims to the contrary. It looks so much better in 1080p than 720p. I might have to go and rebuy something like FF13 just so I can see it in enhanced visuals....

@Zuljaras LOL. It's no joke, finally got my PS5 in place, and was checking it to see if the fan runs while in Rest....still can't quite tell, but I don't think it does. But I heard "something" from it that was almost like a fan, and I think it's the coil whine. Thankfully I only hear it if I put my head near it though so it's not intrusive, but it's present.

And why are there all those resistors on there?! It's like 90's design. The whole of PS5 is like a love letter to the mid-80's.

To be fair though, I haven't heard of PSU failures on PS5 yet (though there are other failures reported out there), but I've heard of some XSX's with PSU failures. A few users on PXB had one (general DOA, MS support said it was PSU), and with other similar Reddit type complaints out there, there could be an issue with some of the PSU units, so at least Sony's vendor may have been more reliable on that part.

But yeah, mfr problems aside, the design of that PSU is just exponentially superior. Though if I have one and only one major complaint of XSX it's that Instant-On mode does run the fan 24/7 at low speed. Launch PS4 did this before they patched it out (thankfully), and as such I don't see myself using instant-on. Granted, with Quick Resume, Instant-On has a lot less utility than on X1X, but I'll miss auto patches and booting it remotely for remote play, unless they fix that. It also doesn't power down external storage when in instant-on which is the same problem I had on occasion with X1X on and off, every other OS update.

@Dezzy 13 definitely looks good on the X1X, so presumably the same on Series. Looks can be deceiving, but it looks good... (Actually I kinda like 13 now, but the meme is forever.)

They've just uploaded some Cyberpunk gameplay footage running on Series X and One X:

@DarthNocturnal

The only example I've tried is with Halo MCC. I had that downloaded onto the hard drive before they released the new enhancement.
That just downloaded an update patch. Didn't redownload the entire game.

Ok I finally got back to my Halo series playthrough (single player campaigns)!

Just finished Halo 3. Now that is easily the best of the series so far. Near-perfect single player campaign in my opinion. It didn't suffer from either of my main problems with the first 2 games (boring repetitive environments in Halo 1, and terrible story pacing in Halo 2).
It had really great level design, lots of great vehicular battle scenes (which are really the high point of the series imo), and excellent pacing with an interesting and engaging story.

The only negative I could find at all really is the very poorly aged graphics. The character models especially look ridiculous by modern standards. The graphical improvement that happened over the 360's lifespan is really quite extreme. Halo 4 looks like it's on another console to Halo 3, and given that they remastered Halo 2 graphics quite brilliantly, it's very weird to go back in time graphically as you ascend through the series chronologically.

So next I'm gonna do ODST->Reach->4->5.
That a good order?

@Dezzy
You could play ODST and Reach whenever you want. ODST is set between 2 and 3 and Reach is before CE (chronological order). It is completely fine to continue to 4 and then 5 if you want to see where Master Chiefs story leads you.

Loads of discounts in the black friday sale they've just launched.

Including Witcher 2, for those who want something good to test out their new backcompat console.

@Justifier

Yeah I've started ODST. Even if the order is fairly arbitrary, I at least like seeing the graphics improve as I move through the series.

I never realized ODST was such a different type of game though. There's a lot more open exploration than before.

Finally Witcher 2 for decent price.

The most decent price was when it was free with Games with Gold a while back...

That sale timing couldn't have come at a better time. Lots of DOOM Eternal Switch news is guaranteed for November and the Black Friday sale ends in December so if the Switch news makes me want to buy the XB1 version, I can get it for 67% off.

Yeah, January 2015, I missed it back then. It was on sale a couple of months ago, but only on US.

@Justifier 2015? Really? I wasn't even aware how long I've already owned it. Oh, how time flies...

Finished Halo Reach! Now that was a hell of a game too.

It had the best environments and best set piece battles in the series, easily. I prefer the slightly more light-hearted vibe of the initial trilogy though. None of the other characters they introduce are really memorable like Master Chief and Cortana.

My personal ranking of the series so far is probably:

Halo 3>Halo Reach>Halo CE>Halo 2>Halo 3 ODST

So.... I wasn't planning on buckling/caving in under the whole Black Friday pressure thing, but guess what? Some stuff is just too good or too cheap to miss out on, so yeah, I eventually did cave in...

Current tally:

MudRunner (Xbox One)
MudRunner American Wilds (Xbox One)
Metro Redux bundle (Xbox One)
Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition (Xbox One)
Far Cry Primal (Xbox One)
SoulCalibur VI (Xbox One)
ScreamRide (Xbox One)
Mars: War Logs (Xbox 360)
Fight Night Champion (Xbox 360)
Panzer Dragoon Orta (OG Xbox)

@ThanosReXXX
I love MudRunner and I downloaded it from Game Pass. My birthday yesterday ties in nicely with Black Friday so I can spend without feeling guilty and got Red Dead Redemption because I never played it through on my PS3 and don't use it now because it's noisy and power-hungry so should look and play better on my Series S. Also got Assassins Creed Valhalla, Borderlands 3 and Dishonored
