Well, since this thread is already old, I was playing Wii by that point. UbiSoft always has a launch game, and weird commercials like the GCN and PS3 commercials haven't been around, since.
Also, Xbox 360 kids were stuck up *******, but I've learned to embrace that, because I like Xbox.
I was playing GameCube (didn't get a Wii until April 2007 and even then stock issues were horrific) and it was fantastic. Got it in 2004 and was the last Nintendo console to have good 3rd party support. Not only did I play games like Pokemon Colosseum, Star Fox Assault and Super Mario Sunshine but also stuff like 007 Nightfire, LotR Return of the King and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow.
Roughly guessing: Having moved into a flat with my girlfriend in 2005, and with only a budget PC at that time (so probably limited to Championship Manager 01/02; never had a console of my own), I was looking for some more home entertainment, specifically with a Star Wars twist, so I did my research and found out about Rogue Squadron 2 on the Gamecube. So I bought a used Gamecube on ebay, that came with Rogue Squadron 2, Bounty Hunter and Clone Wars, plus FIFA 2006, Burnout 2, Resident Evil 4, plus a few others. So I'd have been playing a combination of those I reckon, particularly FIFA 2006 as it had a great challenge mode.
Didn't appreciate the Gamecube nearly enough back then, but I'm revisiting it a bit now, and Grumblevolcano is right about 3rd Party games - they're everywhere on the 'Cube.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Not what I was playing but ten years ago was E3 2006. It was the first time there was an E3 where E3 existed. So not only were all of the conferences available in one spot but there was also other coverage. Footage from the showroom floor and so on. Before then the only time I saw E3 stuff was in gaming magazines.
So I was understandably hyped about the Wii. I was excited about how great Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess looked. I watched that conference and was sold on the Wii. I spent the next 6 months or so before launch being almost obsessive about any little bit of Wii news.
As for what I was playing. Well the reason why I was watching E3 2006 was because my friends had convinced me to get a DS Lite. I was watching the Nintendo conference purely so I could see what games were coming out for the DS. So I was playing lots of Mario Kart DS.

Too much. There was a rental store my parents liked, and it had a good deal to get 2 games + 3 movies for a decent rate, so my bro and I were renting all the great PS2 games we had missed out on (bro got a PS2 in early 2005). Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Metal Gear Solid 3, Okami...the list goes on. I believe I played through Kingdom Hearts that year as well. That opened up a whole new world for me..............wait...I think I just got the symbolism there...
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.
My initial thought was New Super Mario Bros. on the DS, but I think that was July, so I think maybe it was Brain Training. Though I was probably playing a lot of Mario Kart DS as well. I also remember E3 2006, being in shock at the name "Wii", the World Cup 2006 and I was about to graduate.
I think around this time I was doing my Hard mode playthrough of Prime 2. Still one of my proudest achievments. That game is legit hard on that mode, and I didn't even 100% it so I had less energy and things than I should have tbh
Think I was also playing Tetris DS a lot. Oh yeah and Tales of Phantasia on GBA. Love that game, flawed port or not.
I was still altering between the Dreamcast, Cube, PS2, original xbox and, at the end of the year, the original Nintendo Wii. I was SUPER into PC point and click adventures like Broken Sword, Monkey Island, Discworld, Myst: III Exile, etc too.
I think I would still have been playing a lot of gamecube game multiplayer still. Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart, Mario Party 4, Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 & 2, Metal Arms, Godzilla, and several others. The cube will likely always be the best local multiplayer console of all time.
Secondly, the PS2 got love for adventure titles. Silent Hill 3 first comes to mind and the Tenchu titles. A few JRPGs like Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
Not many Xbox games I liked other than the typical Halo 1 and Smilebit's games (JSRF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie).
The Nintendo DS would've had some love too, but I didn't get into it really until Worms Open Warfare 2 and Mario Kart DS came onto the scene.
Finally, there was the Nintendo Wii. Got it the day after release in the UK. Payed premium dollar on ebay to get it from someone who got a console day 1 and sold it for something like £150 more. Loved the wii for the first month, then got bored of it and gave it to my mum haha.
