What's the difference between the summer sale and every other sale of the year?

Besides the seasonal difference, the Summer and Christmas sales generally have thousands of games on sale and tons of daily deals.

EDIT: They also have tons of game packs on sale so that you can pick up lots of games for extremely cheap.

EDIT #2: Also, the last time Steam didn't have a midweek sale was right before Potato Fools Day, which itself turned into a Portal 2 ARG.

You jynxed it! Hydrophobia is on midweek madness. I expect a summer sale soon though since I've heard new summer themed achievements have been appearing for different games.

@mikero_ Shoot! Well, at least I have more time to acquire more money. Also, I did a bit of research and you're right, some Steam games have added summer-related achievements to their achievement lists. Also, I'm sure fans of Killing Floor will be happy about this...

Huge summer sale is live.
I'm gonna go on a strict $10 limit for this sale, so I'll wait until something I REALLY want shows up on the summer daily sale.

Steam, you're killing me.

I had to resists the urge to blow all the money now. Will have to wait and see If I spot something I'd really want. Already snatched Recettear (its 75% off. Now your change to get it cheapest possible!) and DEFCON and probably finally purchase Counter-Strikes. Almost purchased Bit.Trip games, but then I decided to wait for the Wii collection.

Cant really recommend anything (except Recettear), because there's just too much stuff available.

Hey, anyone know if the "Prize Booth" is going to change it's prizes at all through the duration of the Summer Sale? There are a few prizes that I'm torn between and I need to know how long I have before I have to choose.
