Topic: The PlayStation 5 Fan Thread

Well since it was revealed today I figure we might as well have a thread for it. So what do you all think?

Design wise I am not impressed. Not a fan of white consoles as they tend to show of dirt more plus trying to keep all those nook and crannies free of dust, ugh. I will probably end up getting one but not right away unless they offer full backwards compatibility which they probably won't. As for games the only one I am interested in is Spider-Man.

So what do you think the price will be for this? $500, $600 or maybe as low as $400?

Not really a fan of the design overall but not a huge deal. As far as games I saw a lot I liked. Definite, day one buys are:

Spiderman MM
GT7
Ratchet & Clank
Horizon
Sackboy Adventure
NBA 2k21

Still on the fence about a few others like Godfall Destruction All Stars, and Kena.

Love the fact that they're making an all digital version, will probably end up getting one of each. Hoping they price the discless one aggressively since they are cutting out the middle man. Great presentation in my view and can't wait to hear more soon!

I will say, this is the best selection of games to hype a brand new Playstation console, considering how we're only an hour into any hype being done for PS5 era games.

I mean, Ps3 kinda sucked for a while for exclusives, and the first year of this gen was...kinda a mix of garbage and last gen games that just happened to be on the new systems. So this is already ahead of that, we already know a bunch of games that look both fun and interesting, a lot of which from developers that are known for high quality games. And much of them seem like they'll be first year titles. My only concern would be the lack of 2020 games confirmed AFAIK (though I'm sure next gen AC and COD etc are coming).

I'm not getting a brand new console anytime soon, but if I were, this would be well on its way to convincing me PS5 is a great choice. Especially Ratchet and Clank, which seems almost impossibly impressive if all that gameplay was actually gameplay (which since its Insomniac, I trust it is)

I for one LOVE the design.

I was getting really sick of Sony trying so hard to appear like the "cool kids" by giving all their light hearted or remotely colorful franchises the cold shoulder. While I do like the PS4 design, the PS5 design comes right out and says "here we are, we have an incredible piece of futuristic technology that will amaze every single one of you, because it's just that good". It was part of an entire presentation from Sony that felt like them having confidence in who they are as a developer and what their role is in the industry. In that way it almost felt like a Nintendo conference.

I understand some people not liking it. It's VERY bold, and bold has critics and supporters.

As an aside, I find it very interesting how important the role of a console or it's creator's identity has had on the game's industry. One of the reasons some people argue the Gamecube flopped was a very confusing industry identity, with a funky purple console with a handle that simultaneously runs exclusives like Eternal Darkness. The Wii U also struggled to find a compelling market identity.

@iKhan It's different from the Black and Blue color scheme they had since the PS2. Still as I said not a fan of the nooks and crannies but then again it drove me nuts with the PS4. Also I wish it came in black as well.

The console looks particularly bad when laid down horizontally. Like someone left it next to a source of intense heat, and the plastic warped as a result.

Also hate white stuff, since it will ALWAYS look dirty if you're not constantly attending to it and wiping it down. Hopefully we get some special edition systems with different color schemes.

But, at the end of the day, it's the games that matter. I'd learn to deal with the design.

Honestly, this weird-looking thing just makes me appreciate the understated, much more compact design of the XSeX that much more. It's almost... dare I say... cute? I love how its components are layered to make the whole thing much smaller.

PS5 is HUGE.

Also not a fan of the controller, which is bulky looking.

@Ralizah Either wait for some special editions like you said or for the console redesign or Pro edition and see what those look like. That's what I am thinking of doing.

Not a fan of what I've seen so far. The console itself I like - thankfully it's not yet another black box.

But the game screenshots are not good. I'm not a fan. It all screams "look at this computer generated 'realism'!!!" And it's really smack in the uncanny valley to me.

I especially dislike the Spiderman and Racket games. They look somehow, at the same time, too real and too glaringly obviously computer generated. It kinda makes me ill.

The one game that gives me hope is Sackboy. It screams style and is clearly not trying to force realism on something that's just not real. It looks bright, colorful and creative! If I pick up a PS5, I'll be getting this one for sure! (Unless it comes out and game-play turns out to be massively bad or something - but I doubt it)

As was was going through the other games, Demon souls, that racing game, the new Horizon game, and such - the ones PushSquare is showing off right now, aside from Sackboy, it all felt extremely samey. Like they were trying to force an extreme level of realism on things that still obviously aren't and I'm really not a fan.

If this is what's gonna dominate this generation between PS5 and XboxX, I'll happily stick with the Switch alone!

The console looks bad in my opinion. Think about the cooling for once Sony!!! Learn from Microsoft Series X.

But still I want to play Spider-Man Miles Morales!!!

JoyBoy

I didn't think the console looked too bad. It looks exactly like if Sony made a Wii.

Demon Souls excites me, is it a remake? Never played the original. Though I guess the prospect is what actually excites me because what they showed didn't look that interesting.

Ratchet and clank looked way better than what I played on PS4, which bored the hell out of me. Spiderman is fun, but it doesn't excite me.
Resident Evil is not for me, it's all too serious looking, I need some Leon bullsh*t in there and some wacky stuff to balance it all out.

I'll seriously consider buying it when more games come out, 2 years in maybe.
