@CanisWolfred I loved the first game though. Can't see myself finishing my current games and finishing GR2 in time. Don't really want to end up with a bunch of shelved unfinished games, cause I know that the changes are slim that I want to return to them anyway. But don't worry, summer looks pretty empty for now, so I'm definitely buying GR2 right away when I'm done with Zelda and Horizon.
Playing Bayonetta 2 (and Uncharted 4...) right now. Will be playing Gravity Rush 2 later in January and throughout February. In early March I'll start my new journey with Nintendo Switch on a really good note with the epic looking Breath of the Wild. When early April rolls around, I'll be neck deep in Persona 5.
2017 is already looking to be a wonderful year. That's not to mention other releases like Danganronpa V3, Yooka Laylee (same day as Persona 5, but I might wait for the Switch version if I don't nab it on PC), Etrian Odyssey V, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Yakuza Zero and Kiwami, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc.
It will take some discipline to make any progress with my backlog this year.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I'm looking forward to Gravity Rush 2, a lot because of my love for the first one, but I just can't see myself being able to enjoy as much as I'd like. Yakuza Zero hits just four days later and that's going to be my main focus once it's out, I'll have to power through GR 2.
@Dezzy The trilogy sold very well too, and although I have no doubt that some people double dipped on the game, I also think that it introduced a lot of new players to the franchise. Add the fact that The Last of Us got a lot of praise, and Uncharted 4 was their next game; the massive marketing push of Sony and the Uncharted 4 bundle. Not how if the release date had any effect on its success, but it was a quit month and that allowed the game to profit from both the launch hype and the holiday sales.
@Octane
So maybe just general positive attitude toward the company then?
Seems like Naughty Dog and CD Projekt are generally the most loved developers right now. I wonder how long that will last. Very few outside of Nintendo seem to maintain this quality over long periods.
@Dezzy Maybe (I know gave that as a reason, but thinking about it, I'm not so sure anymore), I don't know how well aware the general public is of Naughty Dog and whether they know that it's the company behind TLOU or not. It could be, but I think it has more to do with the marketing push from Sony. I think that brand awareness could've been part of it, but I don't think it was the main reason as to why it did so well.
Yeah, that's mostly due to Naughty Dog delivering great polished experiences. Regardless of whether you enjoy them or not, you can't deny that the level of detail is incredibly high, the games run well, look beautiful. The voice acting, motion capture and faces are probably the best in the industry. CD Project Red is just a great company that seems to understand what their fans want. I mean, the two DLC expansions for The Witcher 3, now that's how you do DLC! Not to mention that TW3 was just a great game in general. People loved the Gwent game, and now its even getting a standalone game.
On a side not; The Last Guardian sold around 500K during its opening week. Pretty good considering FFXV released shortly before it and it missed black friday.
It's kind of crazy just how many games are coming out right now, and so many of them Japanese developed. Gravity Rush 2, Kingdom Hearts 2.8, Resident Evil 7, Yakuza 0 and Tales of Berseria just in the next week! And there's not too much time until we get Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Nier Automata and Mass Effect Andromeda!
Throw in Nintendo systems and there's Dragon Quest VIII and Breath of the Wild too!
Yakuza 0 is going right into my backlog (still working on 3 sadly...but I got sidetracked with kenzan). I just bought it for the card holder, lol. Gravity rush 2 is on the way and I know I am getting Horizon and Nioh at launch. I want Nier but I can wait for a price drop. Trying to finish as much as I can before Switch comes out. Sigh. At least I'll be in my new house by next Wednesday and if I push I can have the majority of the boxes unpacked by Friday. Got to head to the lumberyard so I can work on building an new entertainment center.

@Ryu_Niiyama That's the exact reason I'm not getting Yakuza 0 right now, even though I want it to succeed: it would go straight into my backlog, and that's a waste of money for me. Gravity Rush 2 is more important to me, and I don't want to rush through it.
I'm hoping to get through Gravity Rush 2, Uncharted 4, and Pokemon Moon before the Switch drops.

Who else is playing Gravity Rush 2? After an hour or two, my impressions so far:
Not a fan of how linear and slow the first section of the game is. The first game has its own tutorial segment, but after that, it kind of lets you zip around and do what you want.
Interesting world-building, and the game has already introduced me to a fairly memorable group of ore miners.
I can't overstate how gorgeous this game is. Everything about this game is pure eye-candy. Rich colors. Fluid character animations. Clean character models. Detailed environments. Chaotic particle effects. There are times when this looks less like a video game and more like a well-animated cartoon.
As before, the comic panel story segments are charming and well-illustrated.
As before, a great OST.

Resident Evil 7 is currently at 86 on Metacritic. I don't know why, but I was expecting a poor game. Probably because of 6 not being the best and how Japanese developers have seemed to really struggle with 'modern' game development. Looks like they've managed to put together a pretty good game however!
@Peach64 - That's good to hear. Granted, it still doesn't look like my kind of game, but I think I've come to accept that full-on horror games in general aren't my bag. Resi was always the exception to the norm (along with Dead Space).
Well, their games are usually pretty big. I think they're still getting used to how much more effort those big games require these days. I mean, sure, they could pull a Ubisoft and churn out generic fluff every year with a lot of reused assts, but I kind of doubt that'll go over well.
^Yeah, could anyone give me the short version? The last time I watched a developer commentary, I got suckered into buying No Man' Sky. I just wanna know: is there actual gameplay? As in, any sort of structured goal that you'll be expected to work towards? Or is it just a lot of wandering around vast swaths of nothing-in-particular? Because after watching the video muted, I'm leaning towards the latter, but hey, it was a "behind the scenes" video, so I obviously could have missed a lot of context there.
