A lot of neat stuff coming up this week that I'm looking forward to, most of which I didn't even know was on the way. Guess I'll be keeping my eye on Metacritics for:

  • Digimon World: Next Order
  • Divide
  • Double Dragon IV
  • Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers
  • Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 - Road to Boruto

But isn't that indicative of the final game? Don't think they're lying at all in that case.

Digimon World is different from last year's Digimon, right? Didn't play that one, as it seemed a bit too grindy and RPG-y to me. Haven't really followed Digimon World..

Well, their games are usually pretty big. I think they're still getting used to how much more effort those big games require these days. I mean, sure, they could pull a Ubisoft and churn out generic fluff every year with a lot of reused assts, but I kind of doubt that'll go over well.

That's pretty much the main reason they made 13-2 though.
And I think there's a good chance there'll be a 15-2 as well for the same reason.

@Dezzy And it didn't go over well! Like I was trying to say, they really had to feel things out.

Digimon World has always been an RPG. Even the first game. Am I missing something here? Outside of the story being closer to the second Digimon movie (or really, it looked more like they used Summer Wars as a jumping point, bringing the whole thing full circle), the gameplay in Cybersleuth seemed about the same as the DS entries. I haven't checked out Next Order at all, though. I forgot it was even on its way!

EDIT: As for WiLD, I look forward to using it as an effigy of everything I hate about modern sandbox games if that is indeed the case. Games were supposed to be fun, yet at this rate, walking sims are starting to look more fun...

@CanisWolfred I still don't understand what the point of WiLD is; ''Look, it's a big world and you can turn into a bird''. Yeah, no.

Well, I've never played a Digimon game to begin with. Digimon Story was the first one that caught me attention, seems like it's been ages since the west got a Digimon game. Anyway, Story looked interesting, but not really my type of game, so I skipped it. Haven't actually watched a Digimon World trailer yet, so I have no idea whether it's similar or completely different.

@CanisWolfred some people like those kind of games. I for example has logged almost 500 hrs in Elite: Dangerous as basically a cargo hauler and merchant and around 100 hrs just basically exploring the universe. It may not look fun for you but there are a lot more people than you think that enjoys these kind of sandbox

Not necessarily with the fans. But I bet it ended up quite profitable.

X-2 even moreso. Reused about 70% of the models from the first game and then sold 5 million copies.

Oh, so PS2 is Nextgen now? Well howdy-do! I had NO IDEA.

XIII-2 did not sell so well, last I checked, and after Lightning Returns, even S-E apparently noted a significant lose in returns. They might make a 15-2, but only because so many years were put into the assets that made FFXV, it'd kind of be a waste not to reuse them. That may not mean that the public wants it, just that Square-Enix needs the arceusdamn money.

EDIT: @Octane I actually meant to refer to Cybersleuth in terms of gameplay, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to Next Order, since there was no guarantee that it would release in the west.

@diwdiws I enjoy Elite: Dangerous as well, but I count it more as a rare ecxeption, and that could just be my love of space games + my resentment over No Man's Sky talking. I've noticed a lot that just feel...empty and utterly pointless. I mean, even Elite is set up so you feel like you have goals to progress towards, even it doesn't always involve a checklist.

I was just pointing out that's where they started with reusing assets for what was AAA at the time. It's probably what lead to 13-2.
Before that, for whatever reason, they just never considered sequels.

@Ralizah It's been a while since the release of Gravity Rush 2, so how's the game? Do you like it so far? And how does it compare to the original? I've only heard good things so far, so I can't wait to play it myself.

I also haven't seen @Peek-a-boo here in a while, completely caught up in RE7 on VR I presume?

Ralizah

@Octane The beginning is pretty slow, especially compared to the first game, but after the first act it becomes engaging. Gorgeous presentation all around. A lot of the sidequests feel much more content-rich than in the first game, too. Upgrade system is more complex this time around, although I'm not sure it's an improvement. Talisman system allows you to equip items that boost various abilities in different ways. Overall, I'm really enjoying it so far. It's a LOT longer than the original. I'll probably play this through February.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah Sounds good. What about the Lunar and Jupiter gravity styles? Do they impact the game in a meaningful way? Looked a bit gimmicky in my opinion, something looks cool, but is optional.

I think I'm near the end of Re7. I keep looking forward to seeing some sort of connection to the other games aside from a newspaper mentioning events from the first game. Still haven't. But at least there's DLC tomorrow!!

Look, all y'all have gorged yourselves on all of these sci-fi, real world, and low fantasy open world games. Now it's my turn. This magical realism nature game is for me, not you. It's not full of 'nothing,' it's full of trees, mud, and water. Nature — it's full of nature. History holds that nature is a great play space, even if there aren't zombies and warehouses (in fact, there are already too many humans in WiLD).

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Octane

@Haru17 At least you know why I'm not a huge fan of GTA either!

GTA V at least has a clear plot and characters. It also has satirical themes that it would not be able to present without its scale. And of course, Rockstar made it clear the myriad of different things you could do in the game before you even bought it, thanks to its trailers and overall advertising campaign. I'm not even a fan of GTA as a whole, but I found that they did enough things in #5 right that I enjoyed, so I didn't get utterly bored or stuck in a rut in only few hours, like so many other open-world games I've tried.

I mean, hey, I do think the overall look and premise of WiLD is interesting, but every time I see something new about it, I'm still left asking, "what am I supposed to do there? How is it supposed to be fun?" That's the part that they need to answer ASAP. They're selling a game, not a tourist destination.

Did everyone see the not-very-info-filled Dark Souls 3 DLC trailer?

Quite close to the series being over it seems.

That sounds a lot like going outside.

@Octane Haven't had the opportunity to use them much so far. Lunar is fun to use in terms of movement, though. In general, a lot of nuance has been added to what you can pull off in terms of general movement around the in-game world.

A few weeks ago I posted about the rush of Japanese games coming out in just the space of a few weeks, and so far they've all been critical hits. Nioh is currently sitting on an 87 metacritic, the best received Team Ninja game since Ninja Gaiden Black. I've bought way too many games recently but will have to make time for it soon.
