@Ralizah
I will wait also until PS5 Slim model with White color bundle + at least 1 TB + lesser Watt using + better revision + cheaper price already released.
I will get the PS5 games first while waiting the right PS5 machine model already released.
Investment for the future.

@Anti-Matter It's not hard right now, since the console seems like it's going to take a while to build a worthy library of exclusives anyway. I just really hope the hardware refresh is less ugly than this thing is at launch.

Don't quite yet the "ugly" shtick. Looks alright to me...
Besides, the cooling has to be large, otherwise people would complain that THEIR console is loud.

@Ralizah I think PS4 may end up being the best supported console during the period after a console's successor is released. Currently that goes to 3DS which got a lot of support in the first 1.5 years of the Switch's lifespan.

@TheJGG It's not a "shtick." It just looks unsightly, IMO. Like someone stuck a router next to an oven and the plastic warped a bit.

Anyway, hopefully they can figure out a cooling solution that allows for a Slim model that's not quite as gigantic.

@Grumblevolcano First party-wise? Maybe. The PS2 just continued to get support for years after launch, though.

With that said, I'm expecting the One/PS4 to continue being supported for the next few years, at least. Especially with how difficult it is to buy the next-gen consoles in the first place, which shows no real sign of changing any time soon. It should be simple enough for most games to scale down resolution/framerate to run well on the last-gen consoles.

@TheJGG i think because the console is asymmetrical (at least when installed horizontally) it looks off. And it's huge. And it's white. I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me since because it's unique. Everytime I start it up I get a little excited, like when I'd turn on the original PSone and that lovely start up screen would play.

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.

@Ralizah Oh PS4 will absolutely get support. I am just glad that the next God of War will be on the PS4

@Zuljaras Yeah, I'm really happy I'll be able to play Horizon Forbidden West on PS4. Wasn't looking forward to missing out on that game until getting a PS5. Although that also means it no longer has a system-selling exclusive to convince me to part with $500 for a while. MAYBE FF7 Remake 2. We'll see. I'm not expecting the next Persona game to be PS5 exclusive, since Atlus generally builds games with older hardware in mind. Especially hardware as popular as the PS4 is.

Have someone already played Planet Coaster ?
Was the PS4 version running in 30 fps but PS5 version running in 60 fps ?

@Losermagnet @Ralizah Game devs can't model actual children for some reason. The "children" in the Witcher 3 still give me nightmares.

@TheJGG @VoidofLight @Ralizah More heat coming out of the system is a good thing. That means the console getting rid of the heat. And they only tested one console, which is hardly conclusive. I bet they will run just fine.

They should've tested multiple units at the least, and take average values, in a temperature controlled room. Too many questions to draw any meaningful conclusions at the moment.

Ha! I got a day one edition. Turns out buying early and dealing with a buggy OS that has resulted in 2 factory resets thus far may actually prove a benefit after all.

Started playing Horizon Zero Dawn again on Steam, but this time with a PS5 controller, OLED 4KTV with HDR and VRR so I don’t need dynamic res and can run full 4k 60fps, with digital surround sound running through headphones, and a controller config adding gyro, and ya. I’m enjoying it much more than I ever have before.

Now I’m actually starting to get excited for the sequel! Except… it’s probably going to be another 2 years before it’s ported to Steam, and unfortunately, I seriously doubt they’re gonna add gyro aiming on PS5 (though if they did I’d be ecstatic, and would just play it there).

Ah well. I haven’t even beaten the first game, and knowing me, the next one will probably be on Steam by the time I do.

It’s sad I’ll have to wait a long time to enjoy games like Tales of Arise, since I don’t have a pc that can run them.. oh well. Hopefully I can hold onto my money and hold out on spoilers until then. The fact they downgraded the cooling is just absurd, and I won’t be purchasing until they restore that.

I won.. but at what cost? I ended up thinking about it, and realized that the only way I could get a good PS5 that was the original edition was by paying a scalper.. so I gave into it. I really hope it's worth it, and I didn't just get screwed.

It seems to me you're not sure about this purchase. I would have suggested waiting a little longer or think about it some more. But thinking about something too much won't help either. I don't think there's anything out for the PS5 that warrants a purchase, let alone from a filthy, vile scalper.

@MsJubilee I mostly purchased it now due to the V2 rolling out, and not wanting to get one with bad fans. Plus, there are a couple of games that I want to play on PS5 that are inferior on the ps4, and while they're on steam, I don't have a pc that can really play them.

@VoidofLight I think people are really exaggerating. It's all based on a single unit, which isn't conclusive. And even if it was, more heat coming out of the fan is a GOOD thing, because that means the system is getting rid of the heat more easily. If it was worse, you would expect less heat coming out of it. But none of this matters, because they didn't even measure the internals, nor was it compared to OG models in a controlled set up.

I wouldn't have paid a scalper just to get an OG model, if anything, those are probably more prone to faults if you look at any other console ever released.

diwdiws

@VoidofLight they did not test the components. All they have are assumptions. Stating that the new PS5 hardware revision has bad fans based on more heat coming out is totaly clickbait and ignorant. In fact, it may even prove that the fans are improved and doing a more efficient job.

diwdiws

VoidofLight

@Octane Ah. Well, I don’t know if the one I’m getting is a revised model or a base model. I assume it was a fairly recent one, since the person who sold it said they just bought their own system, and got another one to sell.

@Octane
There's a difference between more heat coming out due to better cooling... and more heat coming out because of worse cooling. In the case of the latter, that's not a good thing. Smaller heatsink means worse cooling, not better.

So it's not getting rid of heat more easily, it's simply running hotter and thus, temps are rising higher and the exhaust is hotter.

That said, I'm sure they function the same. Still, there are some questions I'd personally want answers to such as how the increased temps will affect NVMe degradation, fan noise level, and mean time to failure for various parts affected. I'm not claiming any of these will prove issues in time, and there's the fact I doubt Sony would make changes they think would be detrimental to the system, which should be reassuring, but they are potential issues that should be taken into consideration at the very least. Because there's no way Sony did lifespan degradation tests for the system or NVMe drives connected.

@VoidofLight
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Just enjoy the system. If something happens, oh well. Life's too short to get hung up on what ifs. Unless there's a massive issue like RROD where the issue is known. And that's not the case.
