@JaxonH You say that "Other" increases as you install more games, perhaps the "Other" section includes updates and save data.

@JaxonH I think I've told already, but FYI, TLOU part 2 and Days Gone now have gyro.

I thought you maybe had something like Madden, which I've heard has an insane save file size, explaining the mysterious used data. But I can't think of any reason. I have most of those games on PS4, and there's no hidden additional data being used.

Everyone’s PS5 does it. YongYea had 125 GB of “Other” in his review. And that correlates perfectly with how much space he had remaining (around 10 GB). I have 89 GB of space left and have 102 GB of “Other”. So it seems to just be a fixed % of your used space. Perhaps space reserved as blank to ensure the SSD can perform at max. Because SSD’s often use QLC to keep costs down, but designates a % of the drive as SLC cache for Max transfer rates. I’m thinking the cache has to be increased as more and more space is used up.

When you select it, it says “This is space reserved by the PS5 to help it run apps correctly” or something to that effect. So it’s definitely not save data or anything like that.

And ya, I bought Days Gone, but I subsequently heard the gyro isn’t that good. Have yet to confirm or deny. I did NOT know TLOU2 had gyro though. I really haven’t had much interest in playing that game (though I did like the first), but maybe I’ll pick it up on sale down the line or something. It’s the only major PS4 exclusive I don’t own (aside from Horizon and Death Stranding, which I did own, but I sold when I got the Steam versions with gyro aiming). I also play MH World on Steam with gyro for the slinger, but since I owned it digitally on PS4, figured I may as well install it. It’s not like gyro is really crucial in the game if you’re not a gunner. I’m 300 hrs into the PS4 version anyways, and haven’t come close to catching up that far on Steam.

If Sony putting gyro in their games becomes a trend I’ll be very happy. I don’t think Ghosts of Tsushima did, though. We’ll have to see when Horizon Forbidden West releases if it has gyro or not.

@JaxonH Problem is there isn't much demand for it I think. Browsing through Reddit posts about the potential for gyro, and in games like Horizon, it's usually met with a "motion controls in X game sucked", and "can I turn it off?". People will recall the handful of forced gyro puzzles in BOTW, but don't mention the gyro aiming. It's a tough call, because I do think that bad gyro controls can easily put a lot of people off, and we've seen a fair share of bad implementations over the years. The positive side is that Sony is really pushing the DualSense, and when Horizon will be back in the spotlight, I have no doubt they will emphasise the adaptive triggers during bow and arrow combat. It would be really silly if they completely ignore the gyro, and game doesn't come with gyro controls out of the box.

Still probably gonna wait for a price drop on PS5 before getting one. Plus i gotta have the disc drive version. Yeah I'm a dinosaur but i like to know i own my games. It just sucks it's gotta cost a whole hundred dollars more and the games are like 70 dollars. Yikes!

So... think back to how gyro was accepted within the Nintendo fanbase. It was because Nintendo made games with motion over and over again, until people started spreading the word. Zelda and Splatoon 2 did wonders for gyro.

I think if gyro is ever to be accepted on PS, it’s got to be through Sony. People will try it if Sony does it and there’s positive word of mouth. Horizon would be the perfect game to showcase the gyro too (since it’s still new to a lot of PS a players). I will be so incredibly happy if it has gyro, but if they just showcase rumble and triggers without gyro... that’s like showing off butter and syrup without the pancakes. I want my pancakes.

Oh, btw.
How about the color theme for PS5 U/I ?
Can i change the color into White or Blue ?

@Anti-Matter
No. Not that I’m aware.

There are no themes or color options. In fact, I don’t think PS5 will ever get themes, because the icon you have selected determines the background image and music. Perhaps they’ll give options later to change the menu colors but, who knows.

@JaxonH I think an important thing to note is that, despite the 'type' of motion controls being different, I think Nintendo normalizing pointer aiming for an entire generation helped soften Nintendo fans when it comes to the idea of alternative control schemes for games.

Sony fans are dual analog zealots, by and large, because it's all they've ever known and they don't want to step outside of their comfort zone in that regard. Sony might incorporate some optional control schemes in games, but most people are still going to rebel against them until they're forced to use them in a few games.

Also, the loss of themes really sucks. Between my theme collection and P.T., I guess I'm hanging onto my PS4 until it dies, lol.

I think having motion turned on by default will help a lot of people try it. Astro’s Playroom uses gyro analog hybrid controls for shooting the bow, and it’s turned on by default. I think the sensitivity could be a little higher but it’s pretty good. This surprised me because I’m starting to see a pattern of Sony incorporating Gyro into their games. Days Gone, then TLOU2, now Astro’s Playroom... I just hope it continues.

I had a really awesome Monster Hunter World theme, but I am OK not having themes because the system isn’t really built for them. Every icon the cursor is over puts its own theme in the background, with its own music. If they added themes they would have to remove that feature. Which, maybe that’d work. I guess you don’t really need the backgrounds and music for each icon. And people would always have the choice so... ya. I’d be down with that.

@Anti-Matter The PS5 is likely scrapping themes. The UI as it is doesn't seem at all designed around their usage considering game/app info takes up the entire screen in addition to the cards system and the fact they brought back games displaying on the UI's background with accompanied music from the PS3/PSP XMB.

@gcunit You only need to send your PSVR ID number, which is on the back of the breakout box. You don't need a PS5 (or PS4 for that matter, technically speaking).

@Octane Thanks for the info - I'll get on it.

Currently though I'm banking on them releasing a 'slim' (i.e. significantly smaller) disc version before I'd actually need the cable, by which time there'll quite possibly be a new VR solution anyway.

Update.

Got my external 1TB SSD today. Moved all my PS4 games over without issue. Reddit is an absolute circus right now with hundreds of people complaining about issues. Downloads getting stuck, bricked systems, crashes up the wazoo, hard drive rebuilding database, visual artifacts, etc.

A lot of the posts claim hooking up an external drive can cause issues but I am happy to report so far, no issues whatsoever. I do have rest mode disabled, but I was worried about connecting the external drive. So far so good though. I’ll post back if I do encounter any problems, but, at least for now, all is well.

Yeah, it seems HDDs, for PS4 games have been the problem, @JaxonH .... & rest mode? Haven't heard anything about any problems with SSDs, though! Do keep us posted about it all, though

Cyberpunk uploaded Series X footage. Safe to assume the PS5 version will look pretty much the same:

Cyberpunk looks great, as expected. Can’t say I am impressed visually though because... games all look pretty much the same to me now on power consoles/PC. They look great, for sure, but the way games look on high-end platforms have changed little in the past eight years, imo. That “omg this looks insane!” effect is kinda gone for good. Everything looks insanely perfect now. It’s just the norm (which is a good thing, it’s just no longer impressive). Then again, some games on Switch still impress me. I guess that’s because expectations are significantly different on that platform though, and we haven’t yet gotten to the “everything looks insanely perfect” level on handheld yet.

@BruceCM
There’s been problems with all external drives, SSDs included.

I, however, haven’t had any issues with mine after moving my PS4 games over, and I’ve been using rest mode again, and that’s also still without issue. I figure if it’s got problems I want to know about it as soon as possible. Because I’m not fully convinced all these issues are software related.

Man... I really like the PS5. The more I use it the more I like it. It’s starting to make me want to play games on it instead of PC. Because now I’ve got it automatically turning my TV on and switching the input like switch does, and the controller rocks, and it’s super fast and easy to use. What’s holding me back is the fact games still don’t have Gyro and I just can’t do it, no matter how much I want to. Such a shame.

So, CDPR's games have GORGEOUS art direction, and this is no exception. But I also like the stylized realism of the character models. They look amazing, but you'd never mistake them for real people, like you might when looking at stills from TLOU Part II.

And Cyberpunk has an amazing atmosphere. It saturates every inch of Night City, from what I've seen.

Really excited to play this. Hope it performs well enough on my 970 until I get the chance to grab one of the newer cards. I'm guessing if I drop the settings to low I'll probably be able to hold a smooth framerate.

The Series X looks better than I expected, so I'm more confident that the game running on a next gen console is enough. I may take the plunge this year, without the next gen patch.

@Octane

It's hard to be sure from this footage, but it looked like the Series X version was running at 60fps.

That's all I wanted really. The visual improvements in the next gen version are gonna be fairly minimal. Just give me the current gen version but at 60fps and I'll be totally fine with that.

The improvements have been fairly minor this gen, true. But I think the amount of detail and complexity they've managed to pack into openworld games has definitely improved. The sheer density of stuff in Cyberpunk looks about twice as much as Witcher 3 had.
(If density was measured in something like polygons per square meter, or per cubic meter)
