@TheFrenchiestFry I mean, I feel like the Vita's failure rests mainly on Sony's shoulders. I was actually looking at getting one around year 2 (cause I was waiting for a killer app), and found out the system had already been abandoned.
Low and behold it got insane 3rd party support for years anyways, but I'd already written it off as Saturn / Dreamcast style dead and not receiving any more games. I can't be the only person who assumed as much when Sony pulled support so quickly.
And honestly, there's no reason to go back and get it now. Not a huge Uncharted or Wipeout fan, and nearly every other game I'm told to play on it is available on a mix of PC, PS4, and Switch. Almost all the remaining exclusives are import only anyways.
It would have been good if Catherine Full Body had an option to play the original version. Then you could do a Full Body replay. Not that Atlus do that with their enhanced games.
Everything was balanced around Catherine vs Katherine. It’s not like Rin was neutral, so it felt a bit disruptive, even to someone who had never played it before. Don’t get me wrong, I had no issues with Rin apart from that, maybe other than being a little too perfect compared to the flaws the other characters had. The new content was great, just hard to weave in.
@link3710 Yeah nobody should buy a Vita NOW. It literally just lost the game that many considered to be a killer app for the console, but I'm honestly surprised that it actually managed to live pretty much as long as the 3DS in terms of support without Sony doing much with it outside constantly promoting it as a companion console to the PS4. By the end of its lifecycle it was basically a Remote Play machine but the games it did have were excellent even when stacked up to the Switch. I'd even say the first party offerings like Tearaway, Golden Abyss, WipeOut 2048 and especially Gravity Rush were some of my favorites in PlayStation history.

@JoeDiddley Rin is definitely way more detached in terms of the general plot but thematically she actually fits the game's themes and general absurd imagery extremely well. She isn't really there to throw in another wildcard into an already hectic life that Vincent leads, if anything I kinda view her as the middle man or the person who helps momentarily relieve him of his anxieties surrounding his increasingly problematic abilities to commit to either relationship.
Then the game pulls a classic Atlus and goes batshit insane by the end with all the revelations surrounding her character but I think the message her arc was trying to convey actually fits in well with the general themes of the original game.

@TheFrenchiestFry yes, I agree with all that. As enhanced content and a new character Rin is great and not tacked on. Although depending on your choices in the game Rin just disappears. I thought I was moving towards a Rin ending then that happened for me. So the option to play the original for a first playthrough then with Rin would have a nice option to have for me at least. Especially as it’s a shorter game and quite suited to multiple playthroughs.
@JoeDiddley I mean obviously they didn't offer that option since it would completely negate literally re-releasing the original game on Steam as a marketing tie in to Full Body a month before it came out in Japan
It makes sense that it's the vanilla version considering Royal literally just came out this year and PS5 is expected to be natively backwards compatible with all physical PS4 games so it doesn't sting too much.
I think the fact Persona 5 was given a spot in that collection next to other high profile PS4 games like Last of Us, Uncharted 4 and God of War kinda lowkey confirms how important the series is to Sony. The chances of a PC port are still pretty freaking high after P4G did so well but the chances of something like a Xbox/Switch port seem considerably more unlikely to me honestly.
Either way Atlus is making it big as a developer after amassing somewhat of a following when I was getting into the series around 2010 and I'm just happy to have been a part of that journey to where SMT and Persona are now.
having 5 essentially free is nice for those that never had a ps4, and will probably do great in getting plenty of new fans as if it already didnt do that. i just hope atlus still understands how to handle a new mainline smt game.
@boop23 With it releasing on the fastest selling current gen system as well as being aided by a simultaneous worldwide launch in addition to SMT3 coming out prior to wet people's appetite (especially since it'll be on PS4 for those going into mainline from Persona), I think everything's lining up for it to be way more successful than the DS/3DS entries

@GilbertXI The SEGA/Atlus panel at TGS apparently has an updated logo that features both Sonic as well as Jack Frost so if anything I think SMT V might be a lock for that event, since SMT3 has been getting multiple showcases already.

@GilbertXI I just want them to come clean about the game not being a true PS5 exclusive. They literally mentioned PC TWICE in the trailer. They even admitted the game footage was captured on PC

@TheFrenchiestFry my guess is it will be like FF7R. Advertised for ps5, demonstrated on ps5( this one was in early development, so it was on PC) but it will come to consoles. And now that I'm going back, I'm seeing a LOT of comparisons between project Athia and FFXVI. One of the monsters and their animations looked similar. I'm excited no less, but I hope that that isn't the deepest the combat gets. I really hope so, won't be the end of the world if it's an action game, but still. I can already see the game being one you either love it hate.
