Also P3 Protagonist/Orpheus awakening is the best Awakening sequence in the entire series easily. So wish Unavoidable Battle made it into Smash with Joker's DLC pack

@VoidofLight Yeah if a new Persona anime happens A-1 needs to go lol

AIC ASTA or whoever was doing the vanilla P4 Animation needs to come back. P4GA and P5A were awful (although I haven't seen the Persona 3 movies yet)

Agreed. They need to go back to AIC ASTA. The original 4 anime looked really great, and it’s a shame 5 didn’t get something akin to that.

My guesses are:

  • Persona 3 FES for PS4/PC
  • Persona 4 Golden for PS4
  • Persona 5 Royal for PC
  • Persona 6 for PS5/PC
  • Persona 5 Arena for PS4/XB1/Switch/PC
  • Persona 5 Strikers for XB1
  • A non-game announcement

With Sony having bought Nixxes, a PC port specialist I don't think they would have any problems with Persona 6 being announced for PC alongside PS5.

I’ll keep my expectations in check re the 7 Persona announcements then I can’t be disappointed but it’s very exciting.

I haven’t played many of the older games in the SMT series (SNES, GBC, GBA, PS1 (apart from Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Soul Hackers ports).

Anyone have recommendations on what to try/avoid? I see SMT 1 GBA has been translated now.

@JoeDiddley Definitely check out Strange Journey Redux and the Devil Survivor ports on the 3DS. Strange Journey has a super abstract setting from the rest of the series but its gameplay will be very familiar to old-school MegaTen including first person dungeon crawling and battles, while Devil Survivor is an amazing blend of tactical role playing with the demon negotiation and weakness systems of SMT (also known as what SMT x FE should've been). Devil Survivor 1 is probably tied with Final Fantasy Tactics for being my favorite TRPG in the sub-genre

Also in terms of the SNES stuff SMT If is a really interesting thing to revisit if you have the context of the Persona games behind you. It has a lot of Persona's early formative ideas in it to the point where it can basically be considered Persona's beta in the same way Metal Gear 2 ended up influencing a lot of MGS' core design

@CactusMan I am tempted by SMT 1, just as it’s the start of the series.

I didn’t even know there was a Last Bible 3, so I’ll look that up.

I do daydream of trying games faster than I can get to them though!

@TheFrenchiestFry any of the 3DS games I’ve played (apart from the first Q), and beaten including the DS remakes except shamefully Devil Survivor 1 which I tried early on and got myself in a corner with bad skill choices and couldn’t even grind my way out of it. So I do need to go back to it one day. I loved Strange Journey.

I’ve been in the mood to try some older style RPGs. Probably Mother 3 or FFVI or maybe something SMT. It’s what I always come back to.

If sounds interesting, is it fun or just important?

@JoeDiddley Final Fantasy VI has been tied with DMC3 as my favorite game ever made

It might not be as well rounded as FFIX but it probably has my favorite RPG story and cast of all time tied with the Persona 2 duology and one of my favorite RPG battle systems with the addition of Espers, even if the Materia system in the next game ended up being more realized by comparison

The only problem is if you want to play a really good version of the game outside of emulation options are super limited. The best official versions are still the original SNES version or the GBA port, although I hope Pixel Remaster ends up being good even if it's not on console

Anyone watch the new PV from Atlus just now? Granted, my understanding of Japanese is limited, but it was neat seeing the other human characters, new environments, Alice (who seems to be suitably creepy), etc.

They've premiered the trailer in English now as well.

The story's setup is super similar to Nocturne's but I'm curious on whether Nahobino ends up being a thing weaponised by the Bethel organization based on their mission statement in the trailer

@TheFrenchiestFry Good catch. And I'm still trying to work out the Japanese like a dork, lol.

This really does feel like a spiritual successor to Nocturne. Hopefully the human characters play a bigger role in this, though. You basically only see your friends once in a blue moon in Nocturne as they grow progressively more and more insane (or, at least, abandon more and more of their humanity). It's very lonely.

The Bethel Organization in this trailer honestly reminds me a lot of that organization Alucard was a part of in the Castlevania Sorrow duology with Soma Cruz, even though my first thought should've been Strange Journey

I'm tempted to watch this, but "Story trailers" usually put me off. It makes me feel as if they're going to show way too much of the story, and end up spoiling the entire thing.

am i the only one who notices an insane amount of pop in shown in like every trailer?

I decided to watch it, and I guess my suspicions were right, since it showed someone being killed.

Ooh that trailer makes me so excited for SMTV’s release.

I’m trying to avoid watching all the regular videos so it stays fresh, so I got really giddy not having seen much since Treehouse. It looks old school like Nocturne but modern at the same time.

@TheFrenchiestFry FFVI I’ve always wanted to play but I need to be in the mood for a classic RPG experience. If that and Tactics came to Switch I would buy them day 1. Although I worry what version they would bring.
I understand the GBA game with the SNES music would be good? - as DQ3 took on the 2D/HD thing.
