@DomGC im on the same path, and i think what they were saying was to go to the Erdtree and become consort to the imprisoned queen (whose name escapes me) and, in doing so become an elden lord. Something tells me it wont go according to plan. Evidently a tarnished holding two great runes (or whatever they're called) has only been witnessed one other time, so we're a pretty big deal among the crowd at the Roundtable.

I just beat the Lord in Raya Lucaria and it definitely took me a fair few attempts. I'm gonna have to do more sweeps around the school as I know there's plenty of great astrologer gear hidden around the place.
Also it was funny having so many mage enemies shooting at me as it was like getting a taste of my own medicine 😂
The alabaster lord, right, @alpacatears ....? There's certainly plenty of stuff around the academy, although I don't remember all the things that weren't any use to me but I'm sure you can find it all
@alpacatears i found that funny too. Like how the enchanters will nail you with books lol.
I may be reading too much into it but I picked the Prisoner and they start with a sorcery that the lore identifies as coming from Raya Lucaria, so I was making up this backstory in my head thinking I was a wrongly imprisoned member of the Academy, or perhaps that I stole that sorcery.
I'm excited because soon I'll have a good amount of uninterrupted time to play Elden Ring 😁 a major benefit of post-op recovery time is I get to clear my schedule lol.

@Snatcher I'll adress you here to avoid deviations from the topic on the other thread mate. First of all, I wanna advice you to use every tool at your disposal. Many players will tell you to "fight bosses alone" but there's a reason why there's summons, specially NPC's which won't win for you. If you haven't found Spirit ashes, which is another type of summon in which you get the help from enemy creatures, I can tell you how to get the ability and find some. There's still lots of stuff from the game to discover to frustrate yourself with one boss and learning patterns will flow throughout your playthrough.
Another thing is to explore. I can guarantee you there's a high chance of finding better equipment or at least materials to upgrade your weapons. Check that they are upgraded at max (only) if you like using the ones you have , so don't be afraid to leave a boss behind while you take other directions. For example, in another comment I shared a good place to level up a considerable amount fast.
If you really want to try to fight the boss one on one on your current level, try parrying. It's easier said than done, and not all attacks can be parried. If I remember correctly the magic hammer from it can't. If you dominate the parrying time on a boss, it's pretty much a cakewalk but it really takes practice for most people and many don't adecuate and prefer to roll and attack.
Also, this may be a simple hint, but get used to avoid spamming attacks and rolls. I know that it's easier to get desperate and start pressing fast and continuously on tight situations, but when it happens it's mostly a guaranteed game over so learn to pace yourself and control your stamina.
I got three ashes already actually, the wolves I think I like, but what does the jellyfish do?
I actually spent the whole day yesterday just roaming around, and I actually killed a boss! and a NPC invader, well two bosses because the dude at the start on horse back I killed!
I'm probably going to roam around again because I found a boss in this cave, so I might as well give him a shot. I got death root to, and did stuff for that.
My favorite weapon so far is the ax, I have not been able to try other weapons tho, due to my strength being so low.
I'm going to try summong that one NPC right outside of the boss, and use the wolf ashes later, wish me luck later on LOL.
I'm also going to tag @Losermagnet because I told them when I would get a souls game.

@BruceCM IKR, I have died so much on this game already LOL.
Can anyone tell me what those ashes of war do for my weapons? I just have a really hard time understanding what they do. I have one called battle cry, and im just not sure how to use it.

My understanding is you can only use the Ashes of War equipped in your left hand, so if you are using a shield, you can't use your sword (or whatever right hand weapon you have) ashes you have. My understanding is the solution is to go to the guy in the cabin who sells the ashes, buy the no skill ashes, apply that to your shield and then you can use the ashes on your sword instead.
@Snatcher hey, thanks for the tag. Glad to hear you picked up Elden Ring, I hope you're liking it 😁
One other thing about Ashes of War: you may have noticed that your weapons have a letter grade that corresponds to stats. That indicates how much bonus damage the weapon will get in the given stat (E=meh, A=great!). Whats neat about Ashes of War is that by equipping them you can change those letter grades, and boost your damage based on your build (commonly called "scaling"). For example: I started as a mostly Dexterity based character and put points into Intelligence so I could use spells. Well, eventually I found Ashes of War that changed my weapon to scale better with my Intelligence. So instead of trying to split my skill points between stats when I level up, I can put them all into Intelligence and deal more damage! I've been dual-weilding magical katanas and it feels awesome.
Sorry if I didnt explain that well. Scaling is kind of a weird subject in Souls games. If you're wondering how much damage you're doing based on your weapons scaling, it's the number on the right of the '+' sign in the stat info.
I've been making my way to the Elder Tree and got lost in the sewers 😑 it was kind of exhilarating because i had no idea if i was headed in the right direction and it just kept going. But then i reached the boss and he smooshed me immediately. Went back to the city and got frustrated. Then I had the epiphany: oh I've got to climb the giant dragon thing.
That's a weird description, @Losermagnet .... It going well, otherwise? How many areas & bosses, etc, have you done? (Since most of the bosses are 'optional' & some are quite tricky to even find!)
@BruceCM yeah I still dont fully understand weapon scaling myself so I hope I didnt make things more confusing 😂 basically you want the weapon you're using to fit your highest stat, and Ashes of War lets you manipulate that a little bit. I'm good, not great. I'm not gonna lie I got a little fatigue from Elden Ring. I don't like open world games much, so I think I needed a short break from it. But exploring the capitol city at the base of the tree has been great. There are so many hidden paths and things seem to loop back on each other. That's the kind of level design the other Souls games have and I really dig it.
How about you? Still playing Elden Ring or do you think you'll try some other Souls games?

Finished Elden Ring, although I'll probably do NG+ sometime,@Losermagnet .... Won't want to go back to older ones in the series after that, though! I just meant trying to work out where you were in it
@Losermagnet Ooooooh, thank you, that makes so much more sense, so it’s a boost, it doesn’t give you new moves, right?
Oh I’m Enjoying the game alright, I beat Godrick in four try’s last night, which sucks because I really liked his fight, I will post an update, tho I’m not sure if I can include everything I did because there is just so much!
I sucked at the game at first, but I’m getter better, and the horse is amazing for some fights.
