@BruceCM thats strange that its unlocking then. Seems arbitrary. Assuming you're in the UK Bruce thats like roughly 6pm for me.

And I won't be having any schaudenfreude from others not being able to play it 😝 just jealousy for those that do lol. I wouldn't be getting my copy until the mail comes at roughly 12 to 4pm anyway. Problem is i'll be at work from like 8am to 7:30pm. Buh!

Yeah, games on Steam do unlock at all sorts of times, @Losermagnet .... You East Coast America, then, since that's when it releases there? You'll have to play all weekend to make up for it, lol

@BruceCM yup I'm ECT, and playing all weekend is the idea 😁 the wife has already been notified that the TV is mine for the weekend lol. Are you a souls fan Bruce? Or is it Elden Ring specifically that you're interested in.

Question for everybody: What character type y'all gonna start with? I assume there are classes, and I usually do a tanky build myself but I think i might change it up and go "skill" based since my most recent experiences have been with BB and Sekiro. Although a magic based character also seems appealing....

^ I usually start with a knight, or something that resembles it the most. I think the class you see in the reveal trailer is pretty cool though, might go for that!

Well, of the actual DS series, I've only played Dark Souls Remastered, @Losermagnet .... I liked that but didn't try the others! Would like to play Demon Souls Remaster when that comes to Steam & I have played Sekiro as well, along with other games that are more or less 'soulslike'
I certainly like everything I've seen & heard about Elden Ring, though! I'm going for the one that dual-wields swords to start with & see how that works, lols

I am torn between a "safe" option like the Astrologer or Samurai, where I can stay back and either lob magic projectiles or arrows, go for a tankier option like a Vagabond or Hero and maybe look to spec into magic later if I need to or go for the Prophet for that starting self heal (although I hear a lot of the strong faith magic stuff comes quite far in)

I'm probably going to see if I can get a copy of Elden Ring tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to play it for a while though, since I'm still working on the backlog of games I need to clear, and I probably should finish up Dark Souls before playing a new Souls game with better mechanics.

Overall though, the game, at least from the little I've seen due to a review I watched, seems insane. It's a massive open world, but still retains the mechanics of the first DarkSouls, while improving upon them. The graphics might be older looking than the Demon Souls remaster, but the art style really really helps the world look beautiful and haunting despite that. The scope in some of the pictures I've seen also blows my mind.

@BruceCM dual wielding always looks so darn cool. Maybe I'll get there someday, but for now I like to hide behind the heaviest shield I can find.

Alright fellas, the Blood Moon is setting and the Age of Fire is coming to an end...the next time I post in this thread I'll share the details of the strange abomination I spent entirely too long creating for Elden Ring.

Is Elden Ring connected to Dark Souls at all?

@VoidofLight I've avoided spoilers so I'm not completely sure, but in a direct sense it's unlikely. However, all of the Soulsborne games have little connections both coincidental and implicit.

That's a sensible way to play it, @Losermagnet ..... I'll see how it goes, can always go for something else if needed!

So it seems the PC patch to fix minor performance issues has created major performance issues. I jumped on, got to the tutorial boss. It did the scream/roar thingy, my FPS dropped sharply from like 60 fps to like 15 fps with the game chugging so bad and I died. Reviews on Steam are now down to mixed due to all of the performance issues. Works for me as I need to work, so hopefully they'll drop a patch today and it'll be in a better state when I finish work.

Oh, whoops, @Pizzamorg .... Just got back from shopping & doing my lunch at the moment, so I'll give it a try after that & see how it goes on mine!

Well, I got all the way to the tutorial boss without dying, so that's something ..... I never really get the hang of parrying or blocking in these games & it always takes me awhile to remember how to dodge, lol

Digital Foundry is saying the game is unplayable across the board. The only way to get a good performance is apparently just playing the ps4 version on ps5, or play the series x version with a VRR monitor.

StarPoint

Dang, it's too bad that this game launched in such a rough state. Hopefully, it doesn't put too bad of a stain on the game, since the reviews I've seen across the board have been overwhelmingly positive.

@StarPoint People are starting to say this game is another Cyberpunk, but I don’t think it is. Cyberpunk was a very incomplete game. This game only really has performance issues.

StarPoint

@VoidofLight Yeah, it's definitely no Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk was an absolute mess of a disaster. Elden Ring's situation is unfortunate, but it's not incomplete.

It certainly isn't comparable to Cyberpunk ..... Been playing all afternoon & only had 1 crash! Of course, with PCs, performance varies quite a bit between the different CPUs & GPUs, etc
