Mine was a CHECHA01, (60 GB Backwards compatible) that I bought used 7 months ago.

@Turtlelink: The power light next to the power button that turns from red (off) to green (on) changes to yellow, your ps3 shuts down, then the light blinks red.
I have no idea what that one is, maybe internet connectivity? I was just letting you know you didnt have anything to worry about with the yellow light you are referring to blinking.
@turtle.... that light should be orange and blink often as its your internet connection if I'm not mistaken.
Sorry to hear about the YLODs. One thing is apparent though. Its the older models that are having these issues. Remember I was on the verge of YLOD myself so I traded up that one of my Phats. The other is used primarily for BDs only. It was a 80gb Phat that I got in 2008 if I remember correctly.

The reason I wanted a Phat was for PS2 BC, but f--k it, I just want a working one now. Its still cheaper to fix it then buy a new one but...Sigh...

No no no...the orange light turtlelink is talking about is the hard drive access light. The flashing green light it's next to is the internet connection!
@O_B: It may be cheaper to repair your PS3, but it'll just break again. The average lifespan of a repaired YLOD unit is reportedly three months. I didn't want to give up my BC either, but I had to settle for "PS3 that works."
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P
and im guessing that "fixed"= wiped, too. man it sucks to be me. in 4 months Ive lost my PC, my Wii and now my PS3. The former two now work but I lost nearly everything.

My Wii got bricked from a mandatory system update. Nintendo fixed it for free but they wiped ALL my save data.

@O_B: If you got your PS3 repaired by Sony, they'd wipe the drive. If you had a local shop do it, they would probably be able to save the data. If you simply get a new system, the data's lost anyway.

i might see what my local shop would charge then. it really seems like Sony is going to take the dastardly path of punishing those whose systems break and practically forcing them to buy a new one. Thanks, S-man, I'll remember this next-gen.

I admit, Sony doesn't handle data recovery from broken systems well AT ALL. At least when my 360 got RRoD (twice in less time than it took for my PS3 to YLoD once), I could simply attach the hard drive to the replacement and all of my data would be there, perfectly in tact. All Sony does is tell you to back up saved data frequently...which is all well and good, except for all the games that are copy-locked!

@OB_&_y2josh Man I'm sorry to hear about your PS3s guys. My friend recently got it as well and fixed it for $30 last week though I don't know how. I didn't get YLOD but my bluray drive gave out earlier this year. Guess it wasn't a very good year for our PS3s.
@Stuffgamer Thanks for the heads up regarding Tomb Raider Underworld. I'll definitely have to get the backstory before I really jump into the game.
Do you guys think we'll eventually get the Prince of Persia Trilogy HD in NA on a disc? My hard drive is already full so I'm not too crazy about having to download the entire collection off the PSN.
Not sure just yet. I am planning to get a 3d tv from Best buy this Black Friday though. I'm still kinda down that I missed out on a 50" 3d t.v. that included the 3d starter kit, CoD: Black Ops, and 50 dollars worth of movies for only 1K. Missed the sale by 2 days because I was working out of town last week. Hopefully they will one up that deal in a week or so.
Oh, and I think imma go with a used PS3 from Gamestop as well. Their doing a point reward system like Club Nintendo does and I should make enough points to get this Nintendo controller wallet I've been looking at.
That's my biggest doubt about getting one used from GS though. I figure I should be ok if I get the warranty for it but since its only for a year I was wondering how much Sony charges for a out of warranty repair? They made me paid 100 dollars (or so) when my 360 finally kick the bucket for a out of warranty repair.
