@Dogorilla: I sometimes give points for correct answers misplaced in adjacent fields, but not when they are further away! Didn't help that Wasteland and Mask both have this top down view, so it would even fit for someone to confuse them. Well, you'll know better next time...
Hossa, almost forgot the quiz for this month! I'm having a busy couple weeks right now with moving countries and job hunting... that means the SoundFX quiz that some of you are looking forward to is coming a bit later.
Instead we are getting a new entry in the "retro pixel" series. For August we don't focus on a specific platform, but are looking for a wild mix of zoomed in characters from all kinds of genres, devices and decades.
Despite my experience in creating these riddles, sometimes I misjudge the difficulty - like this time apparently. The first two rows turn out to be sorta doable, but afterwards it gets dark for everyone - and we are only ten people so far (none from here).
The average score is below 10, and many titles have not been found out at all.
I hope there's going to be some more people soon, I intend to help with these clues:
1) These games exclusively run on Nintendo hardware: 1, 3, 4, 6, 11, 24.
2) On all screenshots you see the protagonist, to be directly controlled by you. The exceptions are 8+23 (part of a team), 11+17 (enemies), 16+18+20 (your guests & your tribe), and number 24 (tutorial character).
3) Nr 15 and 25 were only released on Commodore home computers.
4) The following titles are handheld-exclusives: 1, 3, 4, 11, 24.
5) In game #2 you see the Arcade version of a multiplatform title from the early 80s.
6) Number 14 is a point & click adventure from the mid 90s.
@Mr_Horizon The only ones I know for sure are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 11.
I know I recognize 5, 8, 10, 12, 17, 23 and 24, but I have stared myself blind and can’t seem to place from which games, so maybe some clues could nudge my memory on those. I’m totally clueless about the rest.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time for the final rush - there are only six days left to join this round. Chances for scoring in the top 10 are good, for just 12 points you get a seat. Average score is at 9.5, and even the best candidates have barely made twenty points.
So far there is one user from this forum.
Okay, here are the final clues:
1) Two games in this round are classics by Bullfrog Productions.
2) The 21 is a tough platformer with a "circus" theme, which has been released on most modern platforms.
3) On image number 12 you can see one of four playable cowboys.
4) Game 24 is a well known racing series.
5) In title number 6 your perspective frequently changes from a Sim City style top down view to an action oriented sideview.
6) The protagonist on 13 is from a well known western RPG series.
So, I hope this does help a little? Come on and join the game!
This was a tough one - with 9.8 points on average this is the hardest round of the year so far. Most games have been solved by less than half of you, great that there were still 56 people that joined for the August quiz.
Now we first have the names of the games as text, then as images, and the scoretable comes at the end of this post.

@ReaderRagfish true, I filter out the jokes. Some good ones there! But I try to have only those suggestions in the final post that were actually attempts to guess the right game.
Sometimes you just can't get enough... in this round nobody is sitting in front of his screen alone, but with at least three people: Couch Multiplayer is the theme, and the games of the September quiz offer three to eight players a chance to compete against each other with a lot of fun and chaos.
But this time one thing is different...WATCH OUT:
To shake up the quiz a bit and to pay tribute to a wild multiplayer experience, you get a chance to pick a "Mario Kart Item" in addition to using your usual skill factor.
These items will do about what you expect:
This time Bananas also work against Lightning and blue shells.
But what about strategy? Won't everyone just go with a triple shroom for three extra points?!
Answer: not everybody can use every item. Next to each item is this field:
You have to guess your position in the high score list - with green you get the item, with red you don't.
Are you a top candidate and in the upper 10-20%? Then you can only pick items which show green on the far right side of the red/green field. So, in this case that means bananas.
Or do you estimate you'll be more in the center of the field, at about 50-60%? Then you can select items where the field shows green in the center - so except for the blue shell, lightning and triple red shell you can go for anything.
And if you are quite sure to end up on the bottom of the field this time (10-20%)... well, then the items you can pick have green markers on the left side, which means the blue shell or lightning can be yours.
Those who estimate wrong and pick an item unfitting for their position in the field, will instead get nothing - so be careful!
You are right, this round is unnecessarily complex and distorts real skill to favour random luck. I expect all of you to hate this, which is why we are only doing it once.
Ha, this item system is a great idea! I actually know a decent number of answers this time. If I submit the answers I know now, will I be able to fill in the form again to add more answers after the clues have been posted?
@Dogorilla yes you can update your entry as often as you want - just leave blank fields where you don't want to change anything, and only fill in the games you want to add/update (and username + forum of course).
The first 17 people have already entered this multiplayer riddle (two from here), and it appears this is not a very easy quiz either. Oh dear! I hope the following clues will help you.
1) Number 9 is a partygame for the first Xbox, with lots of Minigames for up to four players.
2) The 10, 16, 19 and 23 first appeared for the Ouya console, before they were later ported and developed further on more succesful platforms.
3) Game 12 is a 2D vertically scrolling Shoot'em'up with pixel-look and a four player mode.
4) The following titles had a release on the Sega Dreamcast: 2, 6, 13
5) The games 18 and 24 are racing games for up to 8 players, and they were both released on the same Nintendo console.
6) And the last one, number 25 is an Amiga game from the year 1996.
If you're not convinced about this rounds "Mario Kart items"... just pick a banana and you'll be playing it safe.
Players, get ready! Now there's over 20 people already in the game (none from here yet), and while nobody has gotten a full score, there is an odd divide in points - just 8 people have achieved more than ten points, and of those only four managed to get 20 or more.
In terms of the items... this is the most defensive Mariokart game of all times, barely anything goes on besides bananas and mushrooms! That's not what I had in mind, but so be it, as you wish.
Let's see if I can help a bit more - here is the 2nd round of clues:
1) Game 8 is the first part of a well known trivia quiz series.
2) In title 10 you fight each other with bow and arrows.
3) Number 17 has a lot going on onscreen, it's difficult to spot your own character in the crowd (it's made for four players).
4) Game 21 has just been released a month ago, you fight each other with very agile vehicles.
5) The german developers of title 23 openly admit being heavily inspired by Starfox.
6) I'm gonna be honest - I don't expect anyone to figure out game 25. It was developed by two guys (Dave and Den) in the UK, and it's not listed in the usual game databases. I only remember it because I found the 8 player mode quite impressive back in the day.
So I hereby declare: Who gets #25, will receive TWO points.
Hey, thanks to all of you! With 52 people thats a pretty big couch for couch multiplayer. The items have shaken up the results a bit, we saw losing 1,5 points from red shells to gaining 2,5 points from mushrooms.
the big high score table shows only the final results after applying the item effects, you have to look at the local table to see what impact your choices actually had.
Now we first have the names of the games as text, then as images, and the scoretable comes at the end of this post.

hardest title of this round. A tiny public domain game on the Amiga, not visible in the Amiga game databases like lemonamiga or hall of light. There's not even screenshots - I had to reconstruct the fragment you see here from the only existing low-res video clip.
With all my hints, eight people managed to find it (congrats, double points!). But honestly - how did you find it?? Actually played it back in the day, or did you do some elaborate research?

2 - 6.5 points - Scrummer (+0,5: used mushroom, but got hit by lightning)
Congrats to Dogorilla for the local lead.
Thanks to all for participating and see you next time!
@JoakimZ & ReaderRagfish: well such a shame you forgot - but you'll get a new chance in a few minutes, I am about to post the October quiz! It's one of the more elaborate ones - and pretty damn difficult, I apologise in advance.
Feared by some, celebrated by more: It's time for the extra-elaborate version of my series... the sound FX quiz!
So then, in its third installment... for 40 years video games have been beeping and ringing into our ears - do you think some of these sounds and words stuck with you? Time to find out!
As I can't post sound effects in this forum (the picture below is just a dummy), you can find the quiz at the URL below. The form to enter your answers can be found by clicking the "click to join" button.
And don't forget: Sure this is ridiculously difficult, often even harder than the image riddles. But remember that's the case for everyone, so please don't be discouraged and join in.
