@ReaderRagfish Sound FX riddles are always hard! But I promise you something - the quiz after this one will be easy. I have been way too mean for the past three months.

October Quiz - clues #1

"Hey! Listen!", "Now let's take a look...", "50.000 people used to live here..." and then just a row full of laughter?! - that's the October sound quiz for you. How are you getting on so far?

The average score is just shy of six points (oh dear!) and so far we are 25 people (one from here). The number one spot is currently tied between the Multimediaxis and English Amiga Board - but both still have less than half of the points.

Think we can do more? I hope so! So far there's only three titles nobody found out (22,23,24), but numbers for the others are still really low. Here are some clues:

1) The Sounds 6, 13, 19, 21 and 22 are from the intros of their games.

2) The games 2, 4, 6, 7, 16, 17 and 25 are played from the first person perspective.

3) Number 23 and 24 are succesful MMOs.

4) Titles 1, 5, 12 and 14 are from Nintendo.

5) Game 8 is based on a disney license.

So, does that help?

Here is the quiz: http://www.retrogamequiz.com

Deadline is Wednesday the 31st of October.

Well...I gave it a go. Some I feel are horrendously wrong, and some I feel are reeeally close (but still wrong lol).

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

October Quiz - Clues #2

Yesterday I sent a link to this sound quiz to a friend right next to me, who then proceeded to click through all 25 fields on a full bus. eyeroll Be responsible, do the quiz when you're alone or use headphones!

Average score went up slightly, now at 6 points for 37 people in total (two from here). The MMX Forum had to hand over leadership to the english Amiga board this week - so far there are only five candidates who broke the 10-points-barrier, and none of them by a lot.

Keep on trying - Only game 22 has not been guessed at all. Here are some clues again:

1) In all three Sound FX riddles there has not been a game used twice. You can check previous quizzes with the "previous" buttons.

2) However, the titles 1, 11 and 17 are from game series where a different (older!) part had already been used in a previous sound quiz.

3) Game 4 puts you in a procedurally generated 3D world.

4) Title number 7 has you fight a lot of zombies.

5) Games 10, 16, 19 and 20 have been developed for or by Sega, and have all been released on the Dreamcast.

October Quiz - Clues #3

So, the last weekend is almost over - this round ends on Wednesday night. Did you join yet?? At the moment there are 46 participants, and three from this forum.

Here are the last clues:

1) Game number 9 is not Outrun.

2) Game number 24 is not Tomb Raider.

3) Game number 24 is not Aladdin.

4) Sound 15 is a laughing clown in a point'n'click Adventure.

5) Number 22 remains unsolved - time for drastic measures! The game was released in the 80s and in the 90s, and I have been using the speech sample from the older version... but today I updated it to the modern version, which is much easier to understand.
You might need to refresh your browser though.

This has to be enough - last call, all join!

Also, how did I get 0.06 points more?

I have a system of "weighted points" to determine who gets the higher position if two people have the same score. After the deadline, if you guess a game right that 10 people got correct, it is worth more than the game that 40 people got correct.

To give an example, getting Donkey Kong right doesn't get you 1 point, but instead "1.04211" points. Call of Duty however has a higher "solved by" percentage (77% instead of 58%), so getting that right only gets you "1.02281" points. The formula is =1+(0.1*(1-solved_percentage)). I hope that helps.

November Quiz - Woof Woof the Dog Quiz

May I introduce, the dog on the picture above is Pepper. He's my dog, a six year old Yorkshire Terrier / Shih Tzu Mix. He is a totally good boy, and would be thrilled to know this riddle is dedicated to him.

AHEM, so this time it's about dogs! Across all years and systems you now have to recognise games from the pictured dogs. Sometimes it's easy as the main protagonist is a dog, sometimes it's hard as we are only talking about a background or side character.

Ah well, I am sure you can do it.

Deadline is Friday the 30th November, please participate via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here is the quiz... have fun!

November Quiz - Clues #1

Wow (Woof?) that's a lot of people, more than thirty in the first three days - great! After two weeks it's now 50 participants (two from here), I'm happy you all like this round.

Many of you recognise the first few titles, but towards the end it still gets difficult - which is why nobody has achieved to get full score yet.

By the way, we welcome a new forum to his quiz series - the Retro Canteen is already in it with three users: http://retrocanteen.boards.net/thread/1375/monthly-retro-gami...

Don't give up - here are the first clues:

1) Game 1 und game 19 are license games to TV shows.

2) Watch out a bit on the games 6, 8, 10 und 14 - on these I have already given a few "half points" for unclear or too-far-off answers

3) For the most part game 16 plays in various hospitals.

4) I don't like it when that happens - but one game of the November quiz was already in last months SoundFX quiz.

5) Game 22 frequently makes you decide in morally & ethically complicated situations.

Did that help a bit? Go search the game buddy, go search! Good boy!

Deadline Friday 30th November, participate via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here is the quiz again, good luck:

November Quiz - Clues #2

Awww, good boy! There's sixty people in the quiz now (two from here), that's great - dog biscuits for everyone! ^_^

This round is coming to an end soon, though... the deadline is this friday! Therefore, please enjoy these last clues:

1) The following games got released for the playstation 2: 6, 13, 18, 21 and the 25.

2) Picture 10 shows an arcade game.

3) Number 18 and 21 are the only Survival Horror titles this round.

4) Game 22 was made in this decade.

5) Picture 23 shows a game from an Atari console.

This has to be enough... Go search the game buddy, go search!

Deadline is Friday 30th November, participate via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here is the quiz one last time, good luck:

BrainOfGrimlock

Geezus... Was delighted to stumble into this thread and could then only look on in horror as the misery started to seep out of my screen and bite at my ageing brain!

That was pretty tough indeed - got an answer for all but 2, although some of them I’m not certain of the versions (or if the versions even matter!).

Of the 2 I’m missing, I know i’ve played one of them (and the clues STILL don’t help!) and the character for the other looks stupidly familiar. I may go insane before answers are revealed...

Thanks for doing this Mr H!

BrainOfGrimlock

Mr_Horizon

@ReaderRagfish: You will usually get away with that, don't worry. In rare cases (which I would announce separately, see clues #1 this month) it will get you only half a point. I'm nice today so you get a personal clue: this month you have one case of "half point" in your answers. I won't tell you which one though.

@BrainOfGrimlock: I am glad you like the quiz. Versions mostly don't matter (see my reply to ReaderRagfish above). You got a good score already, maybe the best of this forum!

And please don't go insane, you only have to last until Friday night.

@Scrummer: happy to hear that - keep it up, not missing any quizzes helps your community in the year-end-ranking!

Krull

I'd kind of forgotten about these quizzes, but I'm keen to give them another go. Unfortunately, the retrogamequiz.com address appears to be a dead end. Is that just because I've left it a bit late for this month, or have I done something else wrong?

@Krull I think something went wrong on your end, as the link worked perfectly fine for me. Might have closed already in your time zone.

I feel like I bombed this, even with the obvious games and the hints.

@PolarExperience Thanks for that. I guess my, ahem, work computer didn't like the web address. Works fine from my phone!

@Krull that's odd, it should work on all devices - The form never went offline (it's still up).

Results are coming this weekend.

Didn’t think I would make the local top 5, mainly because I guessed on way too many of them (this is why you see responses such as Dog Simulator).
