I'm nearly done with the Zero series, and I might like Zero 4 the best, primarily because it has the least focus on anything more involved than classic Megaman or X.

I still want to have my mind changed after being underwhelmed by Megaman 9, because its so beloved, but I feel like the Zero series are games trying to push past its own limitations as Megaman games and not really succeeding. It wants you to be at least a bit invested in the stories, and the past 2d platformer series did more with less tbh. It wants to have music that lives up to past series but can't because of the limitations of GBA music. It wants to add all these new exciting gameplay options with elves but despite different attempts they feel like just needless complications compared to the X series (or arguably even the shops in later classic games).

Good games overall, but overall underwhelming compared to the classic and X series that are only worth being in the same league if you ignore most of what makes the Zero series unique.
