However, I am a little reluctant to get this one because I am afraid that Capcom will just release another updated version a few months later.
Don't buy any games at all then.
Zelda: Skyward Sword? Don't buy it. Wait for it to appear on a handheld in ten years time. That way you don't have to waste money.
I find it humorous that you took my post so seriously. It was a dig at Capcom releasing unfinished games and then trying to fool their customers into buying updated versions of the same game over and over. Zelda Skyward Sword has nothing to do with this. This is about how Capcom operates. I can't stand their business practices these days and maybe you haven't noticed but I am not the only one who feels this way.
Oh I wasn't that serious before, hence why I used Skyward Sword as an example.

So... then what? They release the first game in a long-running and increasingly popular series and then don't bother making any sequels and losing out on the money that the sequels generate?
Or would you rather Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 be the first game of the MvC3 series and still have to wait until November to play it?
Either way gamers miss out.
Also, sequels tend to be created to satisfy the large demand from fans. If we didn't continually want more characters in our fighting games, they wouldn't keep making sequels. We just saw twelve characters in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and already the fans are after even more characters in the game (mainly because Capcom wanted a large focus on characters that weren't in MvC2 already but the fans want their old MvC2 favorites).
Given that the going rate for individual DLC characters is $5 each, a $40 disc for 12 new characters, new backgrounds and new moves for old characters, you're getting a bargain.
Ugh, looks like Capcom is going to milk me of my money again...I hate them so much.
Then don't buy it then. If a few measley dollars is worth more to you than the enjoyment of the game then don't bother with it. Keep your precious dollars.
@Bass_XO: Sure, the Ultimate Edition is a fair deal for people who haven't purchased the first game yet but calling this updated version a bargain is a slap in the face of the people who purchased it only a few months ago. I feel really bad for the people who paid $60 for the regular edition or $70 for the special edition who are now discovering that they just purchased what is essentially a beta. This Ultimate version is not a new game, it is overpriced DLC. If it was a new game then it would be called Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Why couldn't Capcom just release these new characters in the form of DLC and let the customers decide if they want to purchase it or not? The only way that you can get this content is if you purchase the Ultimate Edition. Not only that, the Ultimate Edition contains rebalanced gameplay and a spectator mode. This is stuff that most companies release through free updates and would never charge for but Capcom is gladly charging $40 for it. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had 56 characters in it while Marvel vs. Capcom 3 only had 36 characters(38 when you count Jill Valentine & Shuma-Gorath). Sure I like the idea of additional characters but I think that asking customers who just purchased what most people assumed was a finished game to purchase the same game again with a few extras for $40 is rather insulting. Chances are that this Ultimate Edition is not going to be the final version of the game either. I'm just glad that Nintendo doesn't do this with their games and I hope that they never will.

That's about as far as I need to read. As BassOX already stated, that would cost more than a new game, so they really are charging fair amount for what is simply an expansion to a good game, especially if it includes the characters that were already released as DLC. You're also talking as if people are forced to get this game, which they're not. If people don't feel it's worth it, they won't get it, simple as that.

Yeah but do you really think that it is okay to pay $40 for the spectator mode and balance tweaks? That should be free but Capcom is forcing customers to pay if they want it instead of offering it for free in an update. People who don't buy this new version are SOL because that is the only way you can obtain the spectator mode and balance tweaks. This is the same company that charged people to unlock the Versus mode in Resident Evil 5. Oh well, you guys can continue to support this BS. I will opt to spend my money wisely.

I agree, but I never understood why almost every fighting charges $5 for a new character... Anyway, does anyone know if Shuma-Gorath and Jill come on the disc, or do you still have to purchase them as DLC, because I have been hearing both. (Not that it really matters for me because I already have Shuma-Gorath and was planning on purchasing Jill)

How do you know it's even possible to include that stuff as a free update? You don't know the development process, you just don't want to pay for it. And for the record, it's 12 characters and balancing tweaks and a spectator mode. Really, I don't see any reason to complain, but again, if you wanna see it as BS, go ahead, no one's gonna force you to think otherwise.
Some girl broke the pricing of the game down. You know how characters cost $5 each?
Well take this: $5 x 12 characters = $60 This doesn't include the tweaks and fixes made to MvC3- so, let's just say it's $10. $70 if you bought all this separetely.
This game is only going to cost $40. Take that into consideration about "They should just have had the characters as separate DLC than a whole game." I'll take the $40 disc and save $20+
Now.. I'm crossing my fingers for the other DLC characters to be Megaman (Volnutt, Star Force, X), Falcon, and Blade Master Alastar. Please let there be 6 hidden characters to unlock- either through gameplay or DLC..

It would just make more sense to offer all of this content to the customers in the form of DLC too instead of only selling it as a disk release like the way they did Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. That way the people who already paid $60 or $70 for the original won't feel cheated.

It would be interesting to see Megaman from the battle network or Starforce series.
This interview may settle some arguements http://www.destructoid.com/sdcc-interview-niitsuma-on-ultimat... According to this interview, half the characters appearing in UMvsC3 were originally supposed to be DLC, but never were released due to the natural disaster in Japan. This is also the reason why the game is seeing release so early.
Now with that information, and after doing the math, those 6 characters that were originally DLC would set you back $30, but are now being packaged in a $40. So if you were devoted to the original MvsC3 and were planning on buying all the DLC characters, like myself, your now really only paying $10 for new maps, even more characters, and more balance. (And if Shuma-Gorath and Jill are included, your really not paying anything for all the extras in UMvsC3 if you were planning on purchasing all MvsC3 DLC)
Now this makes me wonder, if 6 characters were originally planned as DLC for MvsC3, and if UMvsC3 was going to happen even without the disasters in Japan, if there are 6 more characters that were originally planned to be in UMvsC3, but were booted out to make room for the planned DLC characters, but are now going to appear as DLC for UMvsC3. (How's that for a run-on sentence) It almost makes sense when you think about it, (But not really) because that would make the character roster include 56 total characters, making it even with the amount of characters in MvsC2.

I just hope some of these characters are unlock able. I like to take the effort of playing through the game to unlock characters, stages, etc.
Maybe Smash Bros. and even TvC spoiled me, but I think that's the best way to go about it. Sounds like these 12 characters are the only new in the game. Would have been awesome if there were 4 or 6 secret characters to unlock.
TvC is amazing. Better than MvC3 in my honest opinion, and I had a lot of fun playing it with my friends and playing through Arcade mode plenty of times to unlock the secret characters
