So I was wondering about sport choices in video games.
Until today, still no developers want to make at least cartoonish kickboxing games like K-1 from 2000's era.
I saw most developers only depend on common sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, wrestling, etc.
Some developers make underrated sports games like rugby or cricket.
But still nobody want to make another new kickboxing games.
Why peoples still have dislike with kickboxing sports ? 😟
I don't understand.
I'm not asking for bloody fight, I just want tolerable to watch fighting game without blood spilling and brutal way to fight like UFC.
Maybe some cartoonish kickboxing in Chibi style like Animal Boxing NDS.

In Japan, K-1 event is still being held annually and peoples still have some enthusiasts to watch that kickboxing fight.
I have been waiting so long, since early 2000's.
The last boxing game Big Rumble Boxing with Rocky franchise was a bit oasis for me but the gameplay was pretty hard even I set on Rookie difficulty and it made me felt uneasy to play the game.

Talking about K-1, this is one of K-1 fight from year 2022.

Generally speaking UFC and Kickboxing in general is aimed at more of a grown up audience who want more of a realistic game rather then a cartoony kiddie style game. Kickboxing is not usually marketed towards kids.

@Tasuki You know that a sport is good when the main objective is to hit your opponent in the head until he is physically unable to get up. It is every parent dream It really underlines the spirit of sportsmanship

Also, if adult people have the desire to participate in maybe there is some personal issue at hand

At that point why not bring back the Coliseum battles at least it will be way more entertaining.

Isn't Kickboxing mostly popular in Asia? I don't think it's that popular in the west (the largest console gaming markets), which is why pickings are probably slim (the closest analog that is popular in the west, MMA/UFC, does have console games, for example).

Outside of Japan, most Asian markets are more interested in mobile and/or PC gaming if I'm not mistaken (and even then, mobile is really popular in Japan too), so maybe any developers interested in making kickboxing games is focusing on those markets (since those are the markets where the sport is most popular).

I know you've said you don't like mobile or PC gaming, but you may not have much choice if you really want a newer Kickboxing game. For what it's worth, a quick "Kickboxing" query on the Google Play store brought up several options, some of which appeared more arcadey/cartoony, and I'm in the US so there may be even more options where you are (of course, they may be microtransaction ridden, so watch out).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@RR529
It's sad to see mobile games got pretty a lot of cheap boxing / kickboxing games. 😟
It made me frustrated even more as I still haven't found another kickboxing games I really want to play with my ideals. 🥺
My ideals was from K-1 games on PS2 and from GBA. The GBA version was like 2D Chibi Street Fighter style with Super Arts in cartoonish looking.
ARMS was my other closest my ideal of boxing games as it has the 3rd person view exactly I want to see from boxing games if it doesn't use Street Fighter style (left vs right side).
I still never saw any developers want to make new kickboxing games with cute cartoonish style like Animal Boxing NDS so that's why I created my own Chibi boxers / kickboxers characters to show to peoples what I want to see from new cartoonish boxing / kickboxing games.
Actually I have some ideas to create my own kickboxing games, if only I can offer that idea to Capcom or Bandai Namco.

If a game doesn’t exist then make it! You can get it perfect to your tastes and opinions.

I fear no man
but that thing:
The carrot minigame from bowser's inside story
it scares me

Magician

Seems the closest anyone could get would be to play the King of Fighters games and main Joe Higashi.

Not kick boxing but there are some pretty decent fighters on switch, You have the standards like Dragonball FighterZ, MK & Street Fighter
If its more of cartoon style that you are after check out Them's Fighting Herds - its is a really fun beat em up if you can get past the smaller roster.

It was crazy to look back kickboxing games history since PS1 era started from K-1 games in year 1996.
Like every year there were annual K-1 games in year 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001.
Starting on PS2 era, K-1 games returned in year 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.
GBA got Chibi version of K-1 in year 2001 and 2002.
The last K-1 game was on NDS in year 2007.

I remembered there were also Boxing and Kickboxing game by A1 Games on PS1 with Chibi cartoon design, despite the low polygon 3D graphic but the movements and gameplay were decent enough.
It's so sad to see the hype of Kickboxing games suddenly disappeared after year 2007 like no developers want to make new Kickboxing games anymore.
Why peoples suddenly hate Kickboxing sport ? 😟
Even until year 2023, still there is no sign or hope of new cartoonish kickboxing games on consoles with proper gameplay like 20 years ago.

If the developers still have no idea how to make interesting cartoonish kickboxing games, I can help them with my own ideas.
I have spent my time by designing my own Chibi Boxers & Kickboxers to show to peoples what I want to see from next cartoonish kickboxing games.
I don't have any knowledge about gaming industry, from marketing to gaming design but I can give some gameplay concept to developers from my gaming experiences with Street Fighter and K-1.
