@Ganner I'm a fifth fleet starter but absolutely hear you!
Fell in love with World, hard. Rise was ok but definitely felt like a step down, wasn't a fan of the speed increase and difficulty drop, plus the lack of actual hunting felt like a bummer. An yeah, wilds felt like one step forward and two steps back - it just doesn't grab me like World did.
Maybe it's one of those series where the first game you got into will always be the best?
For me, it would have to be the Sonic games, at least to an extent. I used to love Sonic when I was a kid, but lately, I've gotten less and less interested in the series. I sometimes play the Genesis games, but that's about it... I did like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 as a kid, as well as Sonic Heroes, but it's been ages since I last played them. I'm not a fan of the more modern Sonic games, like Sonic Unleashed... and while Sonic Generations did start out pretty good, it just got more and more frustrating because of Sonic's control. The only newer Sonic game I really liked was Sonic Mania. Sonic Superstars was kind of a disappointment for me. I've never played Forces, which I heard was pretty bad, or Frontiers.
Yeah... in terms of what games/series I've outgrown, Sonic is the closest one I can think of. While again, I do sometimes play Sonic 1, 2, and 3, I do have more fun with stuff like Super Mario, Yoshi's Island, Kirby, and Donkey Kong Country. I feel those games/series are generally better designed and have more to them... even the older Sonic games can be guilty with things like bad enemy/spike placement, for example. The special stages can be a chore to deal with, too... Sonic 1's special stages are especially awful.
