I’ll play it when the Switch 2 version releases later this year. Because that’s the one version that will not only have native gyro aiming baked in, but mouse aiming. And that’s besides the whole console + handheld thing.
I’m a Switch gamer. Do you know how patient Switch gamers are? We’re kinda like PC gamers in this respect. We’ll gladly wait an entire year, 2 years, 3 years even, if it means playing the version we really want to experience with the features we feel are a dealbreaker when MIA.
No hybrid play = dealbreaker
No gyro aiming = dealbreaker
No mouse aiming = dealbreaker
I’m very excited for the game, don’t get me wrong. But I’ll be waiting as long as it takes to play how I want to experience it. And frankly, if I can’t play a game how I want to experience it, then I’m just not interested in playing it at all.

I've become disappointed with the Doom franchise, as of late.
I loved Doom 2016, it's among the best in the overall series.
But, as of Eternal, the formula has strayed to such a point where it's feeling more like Hexen than it is Doom. It's plot heavy, it's more fantasy driven than sci-fi, you have your own castle in space for collectables, while the incentive to explore so you can gather ammo and health has been diminished because the gimmick of a glory kill is now the primary means of harvesting supplies.
Doom Eternal is a fine game, but it's a bad Doom game.
The Dark Ages seems to double down in this direction.
@UndockedPlayer I think it's a bit better than Doom Eternal. It's not as colorful, the story is not that cringe (although it does have some poor moments, they cannot write a powerful woman character for the life of them), but yeah, there are now many ways to gather supplies from demons, but it's not necesserily a bad thing.
Doom 2016 is a masterpiece, I fully agree. One of the best single player campaigns and the overall feel of Doomguy's power is almost intoxicating. And the music, oh my, the music. I am actually in my nth playthrough now.

Bought it played it liked it. (Ps5) @UndockedPlayer I think it's a bit better than Doom Eternal. Yeah, i have heard that Dark Ages is an improvement over Eternal, which is nice.
But, for me, Doom is brutalist sci-fi: isolated gun wielding guy dowsed in demon blood. That's all Doom needs to be. Doom III was fine when it introduced some plot because the basic premise was the core of that story, albeit with a matured tone (again, this worked and, without it, we may not have had the Doom 2016 aesthetic).
But, for now, there's a disconnect for me.
To give you an idea of my Doom rankings:
1. Doom 64
2. Doom 2016
3. Doom II
4. Doom III
5. Doom
6. Doom Eternal
I've yet to finish it, but I'd more or less put it on a par with Eternal based on what I've played so far.
Doom (2016) is a bit of a tough act to follow, with it being a wholesale reinvention for the series, while Doom (1993) is a genre-defining masterpiece.
